Windows was not recognized?

If you are running Proactive config, the default Stealth Ports is “Alert Incoming” You are fully stealthed, CF just alerts you of an incoming connection. I get one for svchost DCHP connection from port 546. Port 9119 is MXit Instant Messaging and usually used with Sophos https://tcp-udp-ports.com/port-9119.htm

Ciao EricCryptid !

Deepl translates me as “you’re completely mad”!

It makes me laugh that the person in charge of moderating the comments uses this nice language!

It’s as if we’d had a hexadecimal farm together!

Personally, it’s my TV that attempts this connection.

So, not Sophos, no…

Anyway, thanks for taking the trouble to look. sincerely, but it’s this sentence that intrigues me…

So I grabbed the file linked here earlier (cispro_installer.exe, 82.7MB, Comodo Internet Security 2025 v12.3.3.8140) and now find myself being prompted for a license as the trial is about to time out? I thought I was getting the 2025 updated version of CIS, same as I was running on my Win10 installation (CIS Premium 8012) but guess it was a different product.

If I uninstall and install my old 8012 in Win11 can I import the config file from 2025 or will I have to start from scratch again, or is there a way to downgrade from paid version to free - what features do I lose from that? All I really need is HIPS+Firewall.

Other than that, I was happy to see that 2025 kept all the features I have come to appreciate from my 8012 build - perhaps I should grab a licenses, althought I can not find any added value for my usage from what I can see it offers (GeekBuddy - nope, Antivirus - nope, web-filtering - nope).

Speaking of features. Is it possible to edit (or create) CIS profiles outside of the product and then import them - and does such a product exist? With all the HIPS settings I have in use I find the inbuilt profile editor a bit cumbersome to use.

Hi K1k2k3 !

I tried with Notepad++, it’s readable.

I’m not in charge of moderating although I have been a moderator for some years. Being positive and helpful is part of that. I spend what spare time I have to help users voluntarily.

When CIS reports Windows Operating System is being blocked for outgoing traffic it means that it cannot see what process is making the connection. Windows Operating System is a placeholder name for when the source/(target for incoming) is unknown. It’s been raised before some years ago but never changed.

Thank you very much EricCryptid for your message.

I’m sorry, the list of bugs is so long that I hadn’t seen this additional problem in it.

I appreciate all the efforts you’ve been making for a long time to help this forum.

My TV suddenly started trying to contact my web browsers directly. As it’s connected to the Net, I’m cautious…

Thanks again for your explanations.

If you look at the file contents you’ll quickly discover that creating profiles in notepad++ will be more tedious than doing it in the application and grueling when you are talking about hundreds or even thousands of profiles. In addition the question was to create/edit profiles which means the editor will have to create valid UIDs etc.

But yea, I suppose for mass search/replace (which would be an issue when for example I’ve gone from OS1 to OS\2 and wish to import the configuration, as windows likes for the C: drive to be Windows, so good call with using just a text editor for that.

So looking closer at the cfgx file, I think that there are some options where a text editor would be quicker than using the UI, especially if you have the strings already copied out.

  • Can change an exiting PolicyItem with Rules (or different ruleset) into using a pre-set config by adding a value to “TreatAS=” but would also require (i imagine) cleaning up the rules set.
  • Mass search/replace (although for file locations you’d need to know the new DeviceName)

Editing an existing ruleset was not as easy as I first imagined (unless someone from Comodo wants to chime in) due to the fact that each entry has a “UID” and you’d need a system to create valid ones that are not in conflict (I would assume) for every entry, be it COM, Registry, File or otherwise.

But yea, I guess it would be possible to create a Configuration Editor outside of Comodo that would be more flexible, and the bonus point for those of us who have Rules set to \$WSL is that it wont TRIGGER WSL TO LAUNCH since comodo quries every single file reference when editing HIPS or Firewall rules… every time you open the comodo settings (PLEASE let us block this…)… (And if you prevent WSL from starting you risk freezing Comodo and potentially losing your entire config file…)

Edit: Oh yea, the settings at the bottom of the file look interesting. Both with the 1024 bytes length per line before it wraps, and the values there.

CIS 2025 Free no longer includes Firewall?

image

CIS 2025 Free does include the Firewall.

However, secure shopping was removed from CIS (both free and paid) and will no longer be developed or supported. I don’t know the exact reason for its removal, but I think CIS protects the user equally well with or without secure shopping so it seems to be redundant.

There is still some outdated information on the website that needs to corrected (including the info in your screenshot).
Comodo decided to release CIS 2025 before the website was revamped (they put all resources into CIS, and decided to only divert resources to updating the website after CIS 2025 was released).
So, they still need to fix the website.

Is there other free software to replace CSS ?
Is it better to uninstall CSS if not supported anymore ?
Thanks

Regarding: Comodo Secure Shopping (CSS) was removed from CIS (both free and paid) and will no longer be developed or supported.

I don’t know of any stand-alone “secure shopping” type programs made by non-comodo companies. Even if a program of this type existed, it would not be well tested in terms of its compatibility and effectiveness when run in conjunction with CIS.

Comodo has not given any official recommendation about whether it is okay to use CSS with CIS 2025. I tested and CSS does run with CIS 2025, but Comodo dragon has problems printing in CSS, and it seems that the clipboard may not be protected in some instances. Also, CSS was last updated before Windows 11 was released, so it is unknown if CSS is truly 100% compatible with Windows 11.

Anyhow, as more updates come out for windows and for CIS, it is likely that the CSS (which is discontinued and unsupported) will run into more and more problems when it is run in these environments. So, I have stopped using CSS.

As I said before, I don’t know the exact reason for the removal of CSS, but I think CIS protects the user equally well with or without secure shopping so it seems to be redundant.

Thanks for that clarification. I believe I used the download link from here and ended up with the “paid” version as trial which now informed me I have 4 days left, so not exactly “Ringu” but bad enough.

I did download the CISPREMIUM_Installer and it gave me the PRO version that requires a license.

I see the installer extracts both a x64 and a x86 version of CIS and it contains references to both paid and free versions, so I suppose it is just an option during installation which version you get and I somehow ended up with a trial. One would think that it automatically downgrades afterwards but I suspect it will just disable itself (?) or would that only be the AV version. It seems like there is a PAID and a FREE version of Firewall from the files included in the installer.

Clicking the ‘free’ link on the comodo website downloads 12.2.3.8026 and the linked above is the 12.3.3.8140 version which at least for me wants a license key after a trial period.

I see the productID = ‘cis.paid_trial_free’

Anyone who have it installed who do not have the nag screen have a different ID?
In registry at ‘Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\COMODO\CIS\Cam’

On one hand, this is a legitimate issue with the Comodo website heavily pushing the paid version and making it impossible to find the download link for the free Premium version. On the other hand, this is a longstanding, known issue and not some mystery that needs to be constantly worried over and asked about. If you can find your way to the forum to ask the question, you can find that the question has been asked over and over for a long time.

Which thread is this, the karen one?

Hello everyone, I’ve always had a question but never asked.

What happens if I remove the entire list of suppliers? Can someone tell me in detail about this?

I’ll ask my questions and you can tell me if I’m right or wrong.

Let’s see what I think might happen:

1 - It will automatically be updated according to the programs that the person has installed on the machine.

2 - With the list of suppliers removed I feel safer since there may be suppliers that weren’t supposed to be in the database of this list.

3 - Can the CIS be affected in its containment or detection if I remove the list of suppliers?

4 - What really happens if I remove the list of suppliers?

5 - Will the CIS slow down?

If someone can explain what happens I’d be grateful, this was my question that may have been asked by others.

Thank you!

Here’s two threads dedicated to the question. The older one goes back to 2009! The question was also asked in this very thread. See post 25. Sometimes it’s faster to use the search function and see if the question has already been discussed.

A post was merged into an existing topic: Forum Violation Thread

I’m still having that “content decoding failed” error on and off.

I’m very well aware of how awesome comodo is at prevention, but little things that need to be fixed have needed to be fixed for a long time.

sometimes you might get an error that pops up and you look up the error code here on this forum and the most recent post about it could’ve been over 15 years ago.

And I’ve said before, I had to stop using comodo for about 10 years because it caused bluescreens on every machine I used it on for awhile.

And if not for stuff like that, the devs need to be doing more QC simply because things in windows are constantly being broken by microsoft themselves.

We saw with what happened with every device protected by crowdstrike why strict QC is important. Don’t be like crowdstrike. you need to be auditing yourselves constantly to make sure CIS/CAV/CFW will work the way its supposed to all the time on every machine it gets installed on
