Of course I’m not Melih but I wanna answer anyway, take it or leave it. If you mean on access protection by “real time background”, then yes.
I believe it has also been mentioned it will incorporate adware and spyware protection also.

Yeap, it has “on access” engine (which means it watches everything in real time without making your PC slow (very important!!). And yes it will catch all the baddies, spyware, adware, trojans etc…
You will see a great improvement over next 12 months, then we are going for the top position for the AV market… so guys, at the top there… pls make us some room… WE ARE COMING!!!
Melih
go for it Melih look forward to seeing someone else at the top for once
Tell me about it, Let just say the end of next year ;D However, the anticipation is killing me, softly that is…
Peace
DB question:
Is it gonna be 1 signature in DB one malware or 1 signature in DB multiple malware?
This depends on how many unpackers we have or have a good emulator. The reason why you might need 1 sig per malware (variant) is because you can’t unpack it. However, we have quite few unpackers built in with CAV3 (CAV2 did not have many) and continue to expand its unpacker capability. So majority should have 1 sig for multiple malware (cos we can undress the malware to its naked self to see it thanks to unpackers).

I keep hearing that CIS will have very low memory/resource usage.
Once it it fully complete (memory firewall, BOcleaner added) will CIS use less/more/same memory as having each individual program installed?
Integrating & Coding these into CIS can cause memory usage differences between stand a lone apps. However, Even when they are integrated into CIS, CIS will still be low on Memory! This is a priority too.
Cheers,
Josh
I would imagine so. There are efficiencies to be gained in the cross-component use of common code modules.
We shall see.

It really shouldn’t change much at all adding boclean with CAVS3, because from what I under stand I may be wrong There will only be one engine, and bocleans signatures\technology will be included into this engine so it really shouldn’t change much at all.
You’re right.
Cheers,
Josh
I’m among those who fail to see the point of this thread. It’s all just speculation about a product no one has seen. It’s not as though the developers are going to change course at this late date to incorporate someone’s idea.
Wouldn’t it be far more useful to wait until the product is released, and then comment on its virtues and vices? At least then we’ll be talking real apples, rather than hypothetical ones.

Well i don’t really have any expections.
And although speed of on-access scans is important for me its completely oblitirated by the fact that i also want all files completely scanned and all possible malware found.
Basically these 2 don’t go together well. However if Comodo managed to pull it off it would have the following limits:
Maximum scan read would be “maximum hdd transfer rate minus seektime delay minus fragmentation”
Maximum scan speed would be “ability of scan-engine to effectively use the CPU(multicore, sse, fitting in l2 cache) minus the effectiveness of the algorythm as a whole”
The first can be done by looking at application like teracopy which can read/write extremely fast to the harddisk
The second can be done by having the application dynamically enable optimisations based on on which cpu it is used/installedd
Also a lot of tests need to be done as some code is fast on AMD and slow on INTEL or fast on pentium 4 and slow on core2duo.
If these 3 steps are done then Comodo will be the fastest scanner hands down, regardless of system and cpuspeed
Hi BruceFraser, getting some insight now ahead of time from forum members will only eliminate some of the work for Comodo later concerning future releases of CIS in my opinion

Wonderful!

I hope CIS will support thunderbird.

This is seconded. If I end up using an AV full time that will be a requirement: the ability to scan incoming email whether it does it with thunderbird or like nod32 did, with it’s on access scanner.
When CAVS 3 comes out I think this thread will be merged with the wish list thread, it seems it could be useful. If that is ok with you Xman?
Hi Psych1610, it’s cool for the move if you believe it’s warranted now that a few members have really started getting the gist of this thread, it really is about what you’d expect in CIS obviously all within reason and feasibility.
Go for it dude…

Merged “Your personal Expectation for CAV3 (CIS)” into this one. (:m*)
By the way Screen shots are on First page at Reply #7 from Melih. But for those who don’t want to go there here are the screen shots again.
Cheers,
Josh

I’ve got some input regarding expectations, or what I would like to see from CAVS3.
Obviously daily signature updates are a must, one a week like Norton is just ridiculous. Kaspersky’s strength is the frequency of their updates, like every hour or two. You could surely match that.
But a bigger concern for me personally is how small the update downloads will be.
I use slow ■■■ AOL dial up, cause I’m poor and it’s cheap. I’m currently using Avira premium until October. I was updating it regularly, and then one day I noticed the update was like 8 MB, which would take like 6 hours or more for me to download. That’s a big problem for me, because my only source of income is online poker, and I can’t play poker while downloading ■■■■, especially a 6 hour virus definition update, and I don’t have the time to wait 6 hours because I play poker every day, all day long. (you have to put in a lot of hours to move up in stakes and make decent money).
So I’ve been without a definition update for two weeks at least. I know, that’s not good, but god ■■■■, I’m not gonna sit here and stare at the walls all day long just for a ■■■■ update, I have to play poker.
I really hope CAVS3 definition updates will be small and quick, I hope they’ll be kind to dial up.
That’s my concern. I can’t fking wait to get rid of Avira, I absolutely HATE IT. I’d be using Kaspersky right now if they were further along in development of their new version. No way I’ll use AVG or Avast!
Please make sure CAVS3 is kind to dial up.
