Hi Guys, when I opened this thread it had nothing to do with the anticipation thread but rather % of detection rate, success rate of cleaning on detection, scan speed bits per second, success rate of the firewall/Antivirus in preventing initial infection, ability in scanning into packed files & depth of packed file scanning and so on…You guys missed the mark totally, these are the issues at hand prior to CIS launch and these are part of the expectations for the members that remember using CFP 2.4 & CAV2 Beta, now post your expectations versus other well known suites considering all of the above and the others I haven’t mentioned here…
Personally I don’t see the point of this thread. What do I expect ? I expect for CIS to be as good as it can be. When we first see and get a feel of CAV3 and CIS only then we can talk about expectations. We need to see the first version and than compare it with the competition
Commodus, buddy ever hear of benchmarks? How fast would you expect say the AV to scan say a 20 gig hard drive? If they launch CIS & lets say that scan took 2 hours would you cry yourself to sleep waiting for the scan to complete?
That’s an expectation… If the scan took less than 1 hour to scan into compressed files regular files & packed files of 20 gigabytes worth then I’d be impressed that’s an expectation, so don’t frustrate if you’re dissatisfied thereafter dude…
Oh and Commodus, in the marketplace you release innovation & quality & then you look over you shoulder at the competition, that’s why Comodos’ Firewall is where it is today. You have expectations when you go shopping for a new computer right? Even though Comodo has graciously shared their efforts for free because they have the vision of a safe internet & safe commerce across it doesn’t mean you can’t have expectations afterall that’s what drives this forum & Melih, constant improvement in an already near perfect product through communication of ideas & expectations…
Melih said that CAVS 3 will be fast as hell. In fact Comodo is aiming to have a fastest scanner on the market and judging by the speed of CFP3 scanner it’s totally believable But I don’t really care about the speed. What’s important is light design (low resourse usage), detection, quick updates and useful features
When I go shopping for a PC I have expectations, because I know the sum of money I’m willing to spend, the processor types, RAM, Motherboars, video cards and all the stuff. I can compare prices, benchmarks and everything. But lets say I’m waiting to get my hands on a new Intel i7 processor. What can I expect from it ? To be faster ? Sure. Use less energy power. Yes again. Expect it to be cheap and good quality ? Yes. But how much faster and how cheap ? I can’t say because I never saw it. I can’t compare to the competition. I can only expect it to be good. That’s it.
Hi Commodus, see that wasn’t so hard was it, your 2 last posts especially the 1st one was what we’re looking for from yourself & others, will it be light on resources? Will it really be the fastest scan engine and ■■■■ the competition to bytes (pun) ;D etc… Theses are the expectations Melih and other members would like to ask and have answered concretely. BTW when you usually go shopping with a given mindset chances are you already researched a little prior to the moment on hand and chances are you’ve pretty well made up your mind prior to stepping out the door & will end up getting your dream machine amongst all the other manufacturers who pretty well put on the market at the same time or almost and you come away with your gem…
Melih said, that CAVS 3 will be light, fast and effective. At first he’s planning to give other Antivirus makers “a good run for their money” and later on to make CAVS (maybe not 3) and CIS to be the best on the market like CFP 3 is now (you don’t have to agree with me on this one).
Now if you want numbers I’ll put them here :
Resourse usage - for CAVS3 about 20 MB RAM for the whole CIS 20-25 (less of course would be a bonus)
Detection - 95 % and more (but i don’t expect it from the start)
Scan speed (80 GB in 10 min)
Space taken by CIS - 50-60 MB
Updates every 2-3 hours
Commodus, now you’re totally into it, that’s what I’d like to see from the whole forum, numbers so that the boys from Comodo and Melih can gauge themselves to see if they’re in the numbers expected by most.
Thanks Commodus you understood, now feedback from others & Melih himself…
I kind of suspected that’s where you you meant to steer the discussion Xman, but that’s not where it was going… I just felt I should push it in a direction. I think this could turn into an especially valuable thread as it is very important for makers of everything these days to direct their products in a place consumers want them to be, whether they’re free or not.
Initially I don’t expect much, which probably means I won’t be disappointed.
I expect a clean looking product with a higher detection rate than CAVS 2 has now, just to show there has been improvement.
I’m also hoping for a number of bugs, in particular the “sharing error” with Office 2007 and to some extent 2003 products, to have been addressed. If another major one pops up, that’s to be expected of course but some need to be fixed.
As far as hardware requirements I’d love to see the amount of RAM be about what it is for Comodo Firewall, or even a little higher. On my system currently about 13 mb total. Of course since an anti virus is more complex in terms of services it starts and processes it runs I wouldn’t mind a bit more usage.
I’m not too concerned about disk space though since most hard drives these days, even on older machines, can take whatever it will be easily.
Hi Psych1610, good reply but along Commodus’ scan speed and other figures it would’ve been a more complete answer, what about frequency of virus definition update from Commodo servers? Every hour, 2 hours or 4 hours & what kind of delivery options? Silent or visual with confirmation? Will there be a location within CIS itself to consult the currently loaded virus definitions and how quickly can a particular one be located compared to what CAV2 beta offered? Can we expect patches to the program itself to integrate seamlessly without user intervention example; Reboot required or not? More guys, we want more expectations…
Comodo will try to release updates every 2-3 hours (the same as now btw ;D). I assume there will be a silent updater and patches … I don’t know it could be that it needs to be restarted. But this is like most products. We’ll see, Comodo is good in surprises
My expectations for CAV3 are quite high, yet realistic.I expect a product that competes with the best on the market (eventually) simply because after such a long period of development I’d be shocked to see a sub-standard product. Also if CFP is any indication I’d envisage a comprehensive level of security.
The realism stems from the fact that I don’t expect this immediately,I see an incremental improvement as the product matures, ending up with a high-end AV. :■■■■
As far as how often it updates, I really don’t care so long as it keeps me safe. I would expect an option for visual or silent updates much like other programs have. Personally, I like to be notified but my mother just wouldn’t get it and would most likely be annoyed by it. Eventually I would hope for an option to view virus definitions, but not initially. I fully expect to have to reboot for each program (not virus) update, I think that’s pretty much common amongst AV makers due to the level at which their components operate.
Better? ;D
Ultimately, I don’t have many expectations of the product so long as it keeps me safe. And for that, I’ll let Comodo decide.
