New Forum my opinion

I personally like it. The old forum using a old version of SMF was dated. I was confused at first but half an hour in reading and finding the categories tab I feel comfortable with Discourse. This platform has a lot of awesome features so far I’ve learned. Only scratched the surface much more to investigate.

I don’t know if this is connected to the earlier discussion, but how do you clear ALL unread posts / topics without going in to each one as if to view them example above. I cannot speak french so why do I even get a notification in the ‘feed’ where as before it was in a section I would just skip as am not multi-lingual ?

The Dismiss All is greyed out on the notification section as per Ickecomodo.

This is a bit like the ’ Focused Inbox ’ in Outlook that most people turn off straight away, but don’t seem to be able to do that on here :man_shrugging:

Hi lckecomodo & megaherz33 ,

The dismiss button will not remove the notification messages.
For better understanding when you received a notification, the notification will be in unread status(i.e.notification will be in highlighted) you can either open the notification or dismiss it. so when you open the unread notification, the notification will become read status(i.e. notification highlights removed) so that the dismiss option won’t be available. And when you click dismiss without opening the notification, the noification message will become read status thats it,
Kindly report back if you have further doubts on this.

Thanks

Please make all links open in a separate tab per the old forum. I click an external link and leave the forum.

How to delete all the received notifications ?

I think you can do this :
See Profile/settings/interface :

To all who are annoyed by the notifications, I found a way to manage them. Go to user name>last symbol>preferences and from there you can chose which ones you want to receive.

Just now became aware of the new forum as well and my opinion is the same as most others here - it’s an absolute mess. I’ve never been a fan of Discourse and I don’t think any additional time using it will help me “adapt” and see why it’s supposedly better than what you had before. This is a great example of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” - there was nothing wrong with SMF other than that the version you were using was out of date.

Hi Boris_3,

Thank you for supporting.

Thanks

You are welcome C.O.M.O.D.O.R.T

After having to look elsewhere about my post of marking all posts as ‘Read’ just like on SMF and other forums and then on your next visit it only highlights new posts, I have found that this has been requested of the developers since 2018 and it has always been rejected and not even on the roadmap.

And this is called ’ progression ’ from forums that have worked well for years :man_facepalming:

Just my humble opinion :grinning:

The existing problem is : how to delete all the old notifications.

I’m afraid there is no way to dismiss or delete existing notifications!!! I’ve searched on Discourse site Search results for ‘Notifications’ - Discourse Meta and sadly got confirmation that it’s impossible.

It’s very Facebook-like. This forum is more like social media than a proper forum. I’d rather go back to SMF.

well, it seems the majority hated so much this new “forum”, so… maybe its time to rollback to smf and update the old one? im using this mess since it was launched here and until now no luck adapting to it. its horrible in any aspect.

Well I’m not bothered, I mean I’ve used loads of Discourse communities so I’m like a duck to water. Onwards and upwards and all that.

Would update the old smf forum and that’s it.

Uncomfortable, unusable.

I am so not with you. Xenforo’s forum software is FAR superior to this silly mess.

Far better than the previous forum they were using.

Although I agree with some others that vbulliten, phpbb, etc type of structure seems to be ‘better’ and categorized in an easier storefront format but overall they’re not as structured and not as robust. It does take some time to get used to.
