Had a problem with Comodo agent couldn't Run

hi
as the title suggest
i had a problem where the comodo agent couldn’t run , i ran the diagnostic couldn’t fix the problem , tried the comodo uninstaller tool couldn’t run due to revoked cert ,
i have a report created by the diagnostic tool i can send it if it help

fixed the issue by reinstalling windows

There was a certificate issue with the previous version. You need to download the latest version from this topic: New Version 12.3.4.8162 Available

You need to use the old Unistaller Tool to remove remnants of CIS: http://download.comodo.com/cis/download/installs/ciscleanuptool/CisCleanupTool_x64_3.1.0.45.exe

the problem happend with the lattest comodo build
could it be malware ?

Unlikely. Did you uncheck Trust Applications by trusted vendors in the file rating settings?

There’s a recently discovered bug with this and recent versions and causes CIS/CF to not trust it’s own files and you end up having to remove it in safe mode. There isn’t an issue with the old .8012 version which is just as secure as the latest version even though it’s 4 years old. https://forums.comodo.com/t/comodo-internet-security-2020-v12-2-2-8012-released/320209 just make sure you when installing that version, you uncheck the other software in the installer options with that version. Comodo Dragon is good but behind current chromium build, secure shopping is no longer being developed and Internet Security Essentials only worked with internet explorer and early Firefox versions.

i didn’t uncheck but i unchecked the option below it trust files installed by trusted installer though

if you want i still have the diagnostic report i can upload it if it don’t have any personal info

Hello,

I believe I am experiencing a similar issue.

I installed Comodo Firewall on a fresh installation of Windows 11 24H2 (VM) and have tested multiple versions, including 8012, but encountered the same problem. I also attempted to use the uninstaller, but without success.

The firewall fails to start because a required Comodo service does not run. Specifically, I receive Error 577 on the COMODO Internet Security Protected Helper Service.

Has anyone else encountered this issue, or is there a known solution?

Thank you in advance for your support.

Hi absit,

Thank you for reporting.
Could you please use the below ciscleanuptool and check ?

Unfortunately, this tool doesn’t work, or I’m using it the wrong way.
Because today I wanted to remove the CIS, I used this tool, but the CIS remained on the machine. This tool doesn’t work.
What is the correct way to use it, if you can, please let me know.

I ran the ciscleanuptool and reinstalled Comodo Firewall but the issue was not solved.

Hi absit,

We will report this to the team and update you.

I managed to discover what caused Comodo agent couldn’t run issue,
it was incombatpility with Novirusthanks system hardener

If your wanting to harden your system, I found Hard_Configurator works fine with CIS/CF as long as CIS/CF is already installed.

It seems this might be why my agent will not start as I have removed the default set of trusted files (as I have done in previous version of CIS without a problem before…)

I created a copy of the CIS Settings profile before I made changes. Do you know if there is a way to configure which profile is active when it starts so that I can switch it back manually somehow? Maybe a registry of config settings somewhere?

EDIT: Yes this is definitely the problem. A soon as I untick the option “Trust applications signed by trusted vendors” the comodo agent interface will no longer open up and I can’t get back into settings at all.

This happened for me on the first CIS2025 version, and also now when I retried the latest version 12.3.4.8162

I have experienced this bug in testing and devs have been made aware but I haven’t heard and feedback as to a resolution. You can purge the list of trusted vendors apart from Comodo and for Microsoft but i don’t see the necessity in disabling that option. CIS works best when not overly tweaked. I ended up having to remove CIS in safe mode with the uninstaller tool when I experienced the bug. Seems to only relate to the most recent version.
