Dragon 33 - Flash Player issues workaround!

This Flash Player issues is killing me. Tried everything mentioned around here but nothing works properly for me. At least so don’t i get any crash messages when utilizing pepper flash but i cant get any videos etc to work in forum views. Just a white box and that’s it.

Comodo really needs 2 address these ‘major’ issues that’s been going on now, ie flash, translations etc. This used to be a top-notch browser but it’s falling behind more and more and that is really sad 2 see.

It would be really great to get some direct replies from the CD Dev’s about the ‘major’ issues and what’s being done about 'em etc… This have been asked for b4 around here but it seems like the dev’s is not interested in giving this kinda feedback to the users. :frowning:

Works fine for me on Dragon 33.1 on Windows 8. Initially I just followed a post by tamerakshar and it worked. But I wanted a newer version of Flash from an official site and to avoid installing Chrome so I did this:

  1. Fallowing JoWa’s advise, I went to labs.adobe.com and followed the link to download Adobe Flash 14 beta. There I downloaded and installed Flash Player 14 Beta Content Debuggers for all PPAPI based browsers.
  2. As clearly stated by captainsticks in this post I created a subdirectory named PepperFlash of the [b]Dragon[/b] program directory, i.e., C:\Program Files (x86)\Comodo\Dragon\PepperFlash.
  3. To that subdirectory I copied [b]pepflashplayer32_14_0_0_136.dll[/b] and [b]manifest.json[/b] from [b]C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash[/b].
  4. I renamed the copy [b]pepflashplayer32_14_0_0_136.dll[/b] to pepflashplayer.dll.
Visiting Adobe Flash Player page confirms it works fine. Also dragon://plugins verifies the availability (use) of the PPAPI version of flash.

P.S. I strongly agree with:

Here the debugger-version is the PPAPI version of Flash Player at the default Flash installation directory (now 14.0.0.136)!

Could grow old & grey waiting for that to happen. Often wonder just how much notice the CD dev’s take of the forum & monitors (assuming monitors don’t edit too much or maybe delete all user posts). Just my thoughts !

It shouldn’t be necessary to do any of this nonsense! Seriously guys, just switch back to Chrome. I’d forgotten how a browser should work. CD is no longer anywhere near fit for purpose.

It certainly appears like nonsense! However Dragon has the allure of added privacy and security. It comes with extensions that eliminate the need to look for added features from third parties 88). That is why I started using Dragon. I have never installed Chrome and I want to leave it as that. If I have a problem with Dragon, I use Firefox.

If you have suspicions posts are deleted then report them to the mods. All deleted posts go to the forum bin from where we are able to find and retrieve them.

Hi EricJH,
Thanks for the info. Appreciated & thanks. What took so long ?

By now the post in question, which was the Flash to Pepperflash patch I think, has probably been deleted from the Bin !

My comment is still relevant !
We are still dependent on a patch for the Flash problem, so far as I know !
How long has this bug been around now ? Too long !
If Chrome decides to patch Pepperflash, change it’s location or Rev number, are we supposed to scramble, again, if we wish to use Flash dependent video & patch the patch ?

Maybe it has been fixed & we haven’t been told ?

For many, (those who don’t have the technical know how),… the complication of fixing this problem is beyond comprehension, and that’s a fact.
I’ve no doubt many have deserted CD due to these types of problems.

I also note, CD V33.1 is now three rev’s+ behind Chrome !! Chromium maybe even further ahead ?

Makes me wonder what other problems exist in CD, which Chrome may have fixed,
eg: the CD English translator still fails every time I use it!
And what improvements have been added to Chrome which CD users are missing.
I could go on & on, but not much point ! Chromium is updated every 6 weeks, in recognition of bug fixes & improvements.

Your defending the indefensible, which is CD dev’s tardy response…sorry but that’s a fact ! and I’m still using CD. The tipping point will be another serious bug ! We are all dependent on the browser to navigate the Net, reliably.
My customers are also tired of constantly asking for assistance to use CD, but I’m getting closer to changing to Chrome’s browser & switching all my customers. If push comes to shove, it won’t take much.
Mod edit: Fixed quote tags, Captainsticks.

Hi huntsman,
The current workaround to use PepperFlash is not as complicated as it was previously.

Kind regards.

Hi captainsticks,
Thanks for fixing the quote tags. I missed it when previewing.

And thanks for the reminder about pepperflash patchup from Alexandra Andre. I’d forgotten, it’s been so long.

Latest version of PepperFlash (14.0.0.145)

Copy to your Dragon installation folder and extract it

Thanks Barough for the info… however we are still messing with patches!
Do we still need this patch…Has Adobe fixed their Flash player yet?

Adobe announced way back in June 2010 (yes 2010) they were developing an API for Pepper.

Does it really take 4 years to develop an API ?

Would hate to be a space jockey in space, waiting for a patch to fix the oxygen system. gasp! choke !!

My point is…why are we still messing with patches for Pepperflash.
Opera doesn’t seem to have a problem with this integration. Haven’t checked Firefox recently.

We sure need a fully working solution for Dragon . No doubt about that.

Personally so doesn’t PepperFlash work as it should for me. I dont get any crash messages when using it, but say when i try watching a flash video integrated into a forum post so does it NOT work.

A major issue imo is that we haven’t heard a word from any Dragon Dev’s about’s what being done about this.

It’s sad to say this but Dragon is falling behind badly these days.

Firefox based browser works just fine with Adobe Flash 14.x (and have worked just fine with older version of it also).

@ Barough,

The difference is Mozilla devotes resources to Firefox. Can’t say the same for Comodo & their Dragon browsers. I’m undecided & have both Chrome & Firefox as alternates on my desktop.

If I do decide to switch, (I have other users to support) is which to use ?.. Firefox or Chrome. Both are reported to work out of the box. Maybe Opera is also worth a look ?
I am tired of the endless patching for Dragon which involves both mine as well as others. The extra security in Dragon is not a game changer !
I might be an aging geek, but I have my time limits supporting hardware, as well as dodgy browser software, especially business users (they have better things to do).
Most don’t have a clue & don’t want or need to find out what makes Dragon or the OS tick.
Computers are supposed to make life easier !
The endless patching for so much of today’s software, is past being acceptable.

@ huntsman

I use a dual browser setup, Pale Moon & Dragon. Pale Moon is based on Mozilla’s Gecko engine.
Don’t know anything about Opera other then it’s Chromium based these days.

please stay on topic

@ wasgij6
Thanks,… I don’t need your reminder.

Well it’s August 2, 2014.
This problem was first reported back in April 25 …

“I Keep Getting “Shockwave Flash has crashed” error”

I’m pretty sure I was seeing it before then. Big Al posted the Workaround on the 25th too. (This Thread)
I tried re-downloading CD. Re-downloading Flash. Turning off all extensions. I even tried turning off CIS! No Joy!
The “Workaround” is mediumly complicated (especially since I can’t find the files or folder referred to, not even using the “Search programs and files” feature found by clicking the “Start” button) and since I have ■■■■■■■ up my computer attempting similar “repairs” before, I’m giving up on that route.
I see in the thread here Double A says “We are going to make a quick update asp.”
That was at the end of April.
Well it’s August 2, 2014.
This note is going on page 8!!???
I am not going to waste my time wondering why Comodo Tech hasn’t looked into this and gotten it fixed with an appropriate update.
I would hope their user base is important enough to them to have some good reason it isn’t fixed.
Here,
I’ll share my fix.
I use CD for everything I am able to use it for, because I like it. (Hi NSA!)
For stuff that requires Shockwave, I use another browser altogether. I use Internet Explorer. I hate IE, but at least it works.
Maybe the folks at Adobe don’t like Comodo, so they’re keeping secrets??
I dunno.

Make sure you are using Dragon v33.1 then

Enter this in the address bar
dragon://plugins

Click the + top right for Details

You should see this at the top “Adobe Flash Player (2 files) - Version: 13.0.0.214”

Look at the second entry with Macromed in the Location and click Disable

Restart Dragon and Flash Games will fly.

It was a nice ride, but the many issues Dragon has with Youtube and other websites running flash videos or even comments make me uninstall it for now. I hope a future version will fix those issues and maybe I will give it a shot again. Until then, all the best and good luck!

I ran into a problem with flash player crashing in Dragon after upgrading Chrome to 64-bit.
Turns out Dragon was still looking for the chrome flash player in the x86 location (which was deleted in the upgrade).

Solution:
enter dragon://plugins in the address bar.
look for flash player.
it will say there are 2 files.
Enable and expand. Then disable the chrome player. Make sure the other one is enabled.
Dragon will now use the external 64-bit flash player.
