Disk Defraggers And System Performance

Auslogics, I’ve tried a bunch of others but I just have a hard time dealing with those services and other processes that always run. Meaning I always end up stopping them and then it’s just too much trouble to start again.

Dave

Omg, how can you have 5,700 empty folders?! If LA saw it, you would’ve given him a heart attack for sure…

I’m lying here breathless. :o

Not all empty folders are safe to remove, better be careful with that. Anyway I can’t really see the relation to disk defraggers so let’s stay on topic!

!ot!

@LeoniAquila

I couldn’t help notice “8 enabled services // 12 running processes” …might i ask how r ya doin that on an xp machine :o ???

Hi Saurav, the main topic for discussing this is here, in case you should be interested

Anyone knows about a defragger that’s free AND works for Windows 98? (It’s for a virtual machine.)

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q186171/

LOL I already knew I can use it (I do already). What I mean is whether there are (better) free third party solutions.

In one of my posts (Virus/Malware in COMODO folder?), i was recommended to see "List of Antivirus/AntiMalware Products & Other Utilities. ". and i was recommended:

JkDefrag 3.34 - http://www.kessels.com/Jkdefrag/
Auslogics Disk Defrag 1.4.16.308 - Best Free Defrag Software [Download] — Auslogics Disk Defrag

i use

O&O Defrag 10 Pro - Speed up your PC: O&O Defrag 26

and heard of some others

Diskeeper - What is defragmentation: Why do I need it? | Diskeeper
PerfectDisk - http://www.raxco.com/home_office/home_perfectdisk_professional.cfm

so what do u use/like to use?

edit by eXPerience : just the links, so you can read it better

JKDefrag - i boot in safe mode to completely defrag
I love it I’ve been using it since it’s beta

I wonder if comodo can make it’s own defragment tool that wouild be awesome

I made a post awhile back about the same thing. Join the 2 together. Auslogics is awesome.

/LA the uber minimalist, super slim XP user, clean freak legend, once told me to use JKDefrag 88)

iobit smartdefrag
or [url=http://www2.ashampoo.com/webcache/html/1/product_2_0144__.htm]Ashampoo

JkDefrag

I use AusLogics Disk Defrag… :BNC

I’m glad you listened. (:HUG)

V’s right, I’ll go ahead and merge these threads. (:m*)

Just tried iobit and its does a better job then Auslogics.

Vettetech, in what way does it do “a better job than Auslogics”?

Anybody tried UltraDefrag?

UltraDefrag has the following features:
Very fast defragmentation, the work is done via a kernel mode driver which has an optimal defraging algorithm.
Very small engine written in pure C.
Nice graphical interface - compact and functional.
Safety, because the file moving is accomplished with Microsoft’s own Defrag API.
Simple to use.
Ability to generate html reports of fragmentation status.
Ability to include/exclude files based on simple filters.
Native x64 support.
Free: Distributed with full source code under the GNU General Public License.

Interesting, reminds me of JkDefrag. Small, open source, seems to have an ugly GUI. It’s much nicer than Jk: http://www.themadfatter.com/2008/02/11/ultradefrag-an-open-source-defrag-alternative/
