I installed cis once more (not a clean installing), but didn’t help.

Hello DrAlrek,

Could you please confirm your exact Location?

Kind Regards,
PD

I could solve my problem:

I uninstalled again with the official uninstaller cis as well as Dragon, ICEdragon and secure shopping to be sure that there are no rests left.
Then I cleaned the registry (searching for issues with ccleaner) and deleted all comodo entries left - found by ccleaner.

So I could do a really clean installing and now it functions.

Hello prodex,

Thank you for your Response :-TU.

Just to keep people posted

Goodnews : I’m running 12.2.1.6950 Beta 2 on two Windows 10 (18363.535) x64 systems without any problems.
For anyone having problems with database updates with the beta installed, you must remove the hosts file DNS overrides once the beta is installed.

After you’ve installed the beta, do ensure you go back to your windows hosts file and comment out or remove the custom entries that are used to download the beta:

ie. do something similar to the following in your hosts file

Comment out using a hash (#)

#178.255.86.194 download.comodo.com
#178.255.86.194 www.download.comodo.com

I think your right.

You are right, no matter whether I import an older configuration or make a new one with 6950, the problem occurs, also with 6882, but do not know why suddenly. Would like to have their own rules in firewall.
Even if I activate one of comodo’s own configurations after creating one of mine, the activation no longer works for both versions.

Prodex, did you check the HOSTS file to make sure you didn’t make changes there?

Okay! I undid the modifications to the hosts file and the database downloaded just fine. But then the updates to the recognizers didn’t work. Because the DLL’s for the beta are on the beta server still.

This actually works out fine, I don’t use comodo’s container the way it was intended by the devs, I use the virtual desktop as a means of protecting my system from my nephew and my girlfriend.

Anything they end up downloading or changing is gone at the click of the mouse.

I have voodooshield to protect against any malware that might get downloaded into the container too.

I launch the “Virtual desktop”, then close it. I launch “Cleaning Container”, the PC freezes and BSOD.

Report

I guess my nephew won’t get to use my PC the next time he comes over.

Yes, I did change it, but it doesn’t any harm till now. I went back to a former backup as it functioned and it functions again.
Cleaning with cis (cce) couldn’t find any problems. Changing the host file into original didn’t but it had no effect, and now (after restoring with a previous backup) cce did show the problem of changing the hosts file.

I used different DNS (entered in host, IP4, cis), too.
But now it works again (using 6882 once more, but I won’t give up)! ;D

I avoided this problem by deleting ‘virtkiosk.exe’ in the taskmanager (in details) and doing the cleaning afterwards

I made an attempt to re create that error. I closed the virtual desktop and when I cleaned the sandbox once there were zero processes running in comodo’s container.

No bluescreen.

several years ago now. I made an attempt to terminate “virtkiosk” from inside of the virtual desktop and it caused a bluescreen.

I hope that information helps.

I’ve always done this after the initial install and setup of a new CIS version, when the Hosts file has been used and then changed back to its original . . . everything gets updated and downloaded as normal w/o any problems at all

I have a question about this entry in hosts - I’m a little confused right now

As much as I know about entries in hosts:

If there is an entry like in the quote, it means that the website is blocked
However, if the hash sign (#) is in front of the entry, this means that access to the website is allowed or I allow the page to open.

What does the entry 178.255.86.194 download.comodo.com mean?

without # = blocked 178.255.86.194

with # = allowed # 178.255.86.194

Wrong way round. If the Hash sign # is there, then the IP entry has no effect and isn’t used

If there is no Hash sign # then the IP is used

Thank you for the prompt answer.

The example in the attachment there is no #, because they don’t won’t ‘google’ to be used, no effect? blocked?

Has it to do with in- and outgoing?

It’s all explained in the first paragraph of the Hosts file . . . the hash sign # in front of an IP address, means it is commented out - the IP address is not in effect or being used

If there is no Hash sign# - then the IP is in effect and will be used

That’s how I used to do it, something messed me up:

I did it interprate the example with google (my message above : attachment) so:

Someone don’t want, that google will be used -----> # is not set

Someone will that google is used ----> # is set

and now:

I want, that comodo download site is being used -----> # should be set ?

That’s what messed up me.

In short:

I will ----> #

I will not -----> no #

I will comodo ----> ?

My entry in hosts is, of course (comodo site):

156.154.70.25 (but according to the article I read, the page shouldn’t be in use without #)

What the hell do I not understand (English-German ?, I don’t believe that)
