I’m a long time CIS user and I grew very fond of the software, but unfortunately after trying out its newest release I had to revert to its previous version.
I just couldn’t stand the new interface.
Important CIS functions that I used everyday, and which were previously accessible via a couple of mouse clicks, are now unnecessarily hidden very deeply and require a lot index finger effort in order to dig them out (sometimes it’s over 5 clicks!).
Giant dropbox have been made a start screen instead of a traditional summary we all are familiar with. Wasn’t Windows Explorer’s contextual right-click menu sufficient (Run in COMODO SandBox/Scan with COMODO AV)?
Vertical tabs are inconvenient, far too large and remind me of smartphone buttons. Important information and buttons are spread over too many, hard-to-access places. Have Comodo joined the modern trend of displaying as little information at a time as possible? Please remember, that we’re living in an era of 24"+ full HD computer displays. Instead of minimizing displayed information, you could completely get rid of the tabbed window in favour of displaying every CIS function in a single frame. Something like a Control Panel. With an additional sorting and layout, it would be far superior to what we have now and would require far less clicking.
Also, I think the tray icon lost its traditional right click menu which let you chose Antivirus/Firewall/Defense+ modes (for example, for FW: Block All/Custom Policy/Safe Mode/Training Mode/Disable). I used them all the time.
Currently it’s only Enable/Disable for every CIS component. That’s useless.
Any chance of getting it back?
Now, I don’t want to sound like a douchebag, who barges in here only to criticise other people’s hard work. It’s not that I don’t appreciate the new version and effort you’ve put into its creation. I really do! And I’m pretty sure, that under the hood, the new release is far superior to any previous one. It’s just, I’d never find out how good it is, because the GUI is a no-no for me.
P.S. I really hoped that Network Policy and Defense+ lists will finally get a search function.
But if you take a look at the logs you could even have a 50" monitor and you would still have to minimize some columns to get the minimum of information now.
Prepared for “the” future.
While being useless and disfunctional for normal people of today.
A firewall does not have to follow all gimmick inventions. It should do its job, and the informations should be displayed in a way that you can read them.
“Ah, i see, cmdagent was blocked. When? Ah i see it was several times an hour. What did it do? Ah i see, it tried this. What IP? What port? Oh, what is that? Ah thats another file. When did it get blocked? Ah i see, this afternoon. What did it try?..”
Gathering this information about two events required +10 resizings of columns.
Do you remember the puzzles for kids, where one block is missing and you have to move the other blocks until you see the picture?
I am playing this game when i use the logs of comodo V6.
I dont like this game.
Could someone clarify the question: if the HIPS is disabled and “create rules for safe applications” is checked then does HIPS create rules for safe applications?
For me it does, fastest test is to go to Tasks, Firewall Tasks, and then press Stop Network Activity if everything stops CIS is at least able to block all traffic.
One of the mods said that we will probably not have any warning before the next release because people would want a deadline then. When a deadline is not met people do not like it. I am guessing Comodo thinks it is best not to rush on their next release.
Yesterday I just upgraded to v6 Firewall from v5. I only use the Firewall. I don’t use the rest of your apps.
I find it a bit difficult to navigate through it’s settings. I guess I was used to v5. It will take some time getting used to. I did find your online guide quite useful. Thanks for that.
One thing I’d like to see change is when it does an update or check for an update. To not popup a window letting me know it did check for an update and it counts down to close. It interrupts me when I am watching Netflix or other full screen apps. I can just imagine doing a presentation at the office and it does that! lol
Is there a way to disable the update notifier? I still want it to check for updates, but not the popup window. That’s it for now!
Another issue is the ads. Yes, I use the free version, but the ads are beginning to be quite annoying. It’s ironic to install software to combat spam and popups to have it’s own.
