Comodo Firewall Wishlist v5[Closed]

Make it possible to protect the firewall against unauthorized terminations, like Symantec and ZL’s products. If you try to kill those via task manager, you get an access denied message.

I noticed version 2.4 does not log anything until a user is logged into the workstation. Does the firewall run as a system service and start before the network interface comes online?

It utilises a kernel level driver that is loaded, initialized and active long before you see the desktop and anyone logs in. Although the logging is only commenced once a user logs in, you’re protected.

Huh ? You can’t do that obviously. Nor can you change the service through services.msc .

I can very easily with the latest 3.0 beta on Vista. I can kill both cpf and cpfagent and they don’t start back up.

And in fact, I actually went to services.msc and set it to automatically start back up if killed so I could feel safer.

I’ve only been using 2.418 for now. I doubt they don’t know about that though.

3.0.10 was released today. It fixes the service termination issue. Great job.

The problem:

You are queried by the firewall to “Allow” programs to proceed. This requires a GUESS by most users.

A careful user can start clean, allow everything for awhile using “Remember This” and hope to train an effective protection before being infected. However, this DOES NOT WORK because

“Security updates” frequently happen.

After the monthly Microsoft update, for example, you have to cross-your-fingers and ok everything again for a few days. More GUESSING

The solution is:

(1) The firewall needs to somehow be informed automatically about legitimate changes from the various major program suppliers – Microsoft, Firefox, Opera to name a few, so the average user
doesn’t have to GUESS so much.

Not quite, the service and process can both be terminated when in istall mode, it’s still a bug there, it’s has been partially corrected but it is still there.

I believe Egemen is aware of this. Apparently install mode is a touch too “soft”. It will undoubtedly be corrected in a future release, hopefully the next one.

how about when bringing up a file list etc. you get a count of how many files and/or entities are listed

I have just started to use Comodo and very impressed! Good Job! (previously used ZA pro).
Just a small suggestion to do with the taskbar icon.

Could its activity be restricted to internet traffic only? (I run a small home Lan). ie exclude trusted zones.

Also if I mouse over the icon it would be cool if it ID’d what was talking at that moment.

I look forward to the next version!

Welcome, Vunox!

So you’re looking for a configurable icon (or perhaps configurable would be the best answer, since other users might want to see LAN traffic for security reasons); the idea sounds good to me!

Perhaps the Predefined Firewall policies for email could be extended, in order to support Gmail by default.

What about a game mode, like ZA? (B)

+1 (as I already asked ;))

So far I can’t see any option to allow this, so: Request a plug-in or pre-defined method of setting up Port Triggering. See: Port Triggering vs. Port Forwarding
This feature allows a secure method of using torrent downloading applications. It is usually not available unless you happen to have a router that supports that method.

It would be nice to be able to “lock” network control rules individually so they are not deleted or modified by mistake. I deleted one of the default rules and could not remember what is was so I had to reinstall the program to get it back!

Comodo firewall rocks!

On application control, a configurable list of all programs that have run and what applications they are allowed to run. An option to choose wether the CFP ask you for permissions all over again if the MD5 checksum of the app has changed – one such option for both Firewall and Defense+ independently.

Also a per-app/global traffic speed limiter could be nice though I’m not insisting.
