I just DL’d it to give this a try, Andrei. Thank you.

Hello,

Great! I am expecting a lot of constructive feedback(criticism) from you :), as usually.

Good work guys!

Melih

Wow, now this is a cool application! (:CLP)

Thanks a lot for the release. I’ve successfully tested a system partition backup task. Here’s what I did:

  1. CBU made an image (is this the correct terminology?) of my system partition C: and the MBR (if I remember correctly). As my system (XP SP3) is super slimmed the image file was only 1.2 GB so it was done very fast.

  2. I deleted one file from my system.

  3. I double clicked the .cbu image in Windows Explorer, and got the message that it couldn’t be restored since the volume was in use. A reboot was suggested.

  4. I rebooted and CBU successfully restored my image, I could verify this by checking if the file I deleted was brought back.

Very, very nice program. Really useful to make a Windows system backup instead of reinstalling Windows all the time (although I only reinstall Windows every three-four months nowadays, but there was a time when I reinstalled Windows at least once a month due to much testing and wrecking… ;)).

I also love the beautiful GUI you’ve made, although I have to minimize all other windows and just put CBU on the desktop. Else, the transparent areas distract.

Thanks again. :-TU

Couple of questions;

  1. The button on the left that says “Backup System partition” - is this the same as the Backup Selection Type “System” (last option) in STEP 1?

  2. Yet in STEP 1, what’s the difference in Backup Selection Type between “Disk, Partitions and MBR” (provided that I only chose the system partition in the tree, not MBR) and “System”?

Thanks.

Thanks Andrei

So far it looks awesome. I will give it a good test and see what happens.

John

  1. No, it is not the same.
“Backup System partition” button backs-up the entire partition where windows is with sector-by-sector method.
“System” backup (last option) backs-up all files & directories that are windows-related.

  2. The difference is the same as in (1). If you select the system partition in “Disk, Partitions and MBR” option is the same as clicking “Backup System partition” button.

Thank you for the reply,

OK, maybe these things will be specified further in the Help file? E.g. whether “System” backup (last option) includes anything more than the Windows folder (like system related files/folders in Documents and Settings).

Nice touch - scheduled backups are simply events using the standard Windows Scheduler. Additionally, run-once scheduled tasks are removed from the Scheduled Events list once run.

Loving it so far!!!

+1, I really like that CBU doesn’t need an extra Windows service, nor running in realtime. It’s very simple but it still makes the job. And it’s a small installation that keeps the files in the installation directory, rather than spreading it all over the HDD like some bloated software. :-TU

Wow. I never tried Comodo Backup. First time this has been updated in a year! (Last version was Released May 8th 2008, version 1.0x) - Great improvement on v2! LOVE the new GUI and features! This is on my system now for good… I love the system backup function. Saves Reformatting!

Great work guys… I am highly impressed!

Cheers,
Josh

I don’t like the new GUI.
The transparent areas can create confusion if the desktop is full of icons or if there are other windows
The maximize minimize and close buttons are hard to find in those occasions.

Thank you for your feedback.
This is only a beta version and the GUI will be improved in the next versions.
We are looking into the transparency problem to see if we can come up with a better implementation.

Until then any feedback is appreciated.

Thank you.

Hey staff

Any reason why you chosed Windows Installer for this product, instead of any of your own installers?

:comodomarryme: :comodomarryme: :comodomarryme: :comodomarryme: :comodomarryme:

Please?

I’m in love with you

I love this new BackUp Program :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m sure CIS and Other Products Will Have the similar GUI?
Like they did back then when CAVS 2.x Beta Was Dropp’d and Firewall and CAVS had the same GUI… so did other products…

Thank you guys SO MUCH!

Jacob

Wow, just came across this having been suggested by Melih :-TU.

Just one question, it’s says that it can backup the disk or system partition. Is this similar to say Ghost? What if I couldn’t boot my OS, how would I restore? As mentioned, only just come across this so haven’t done much research yet.

Looking forward to testing this on my “test” machine ;D. Btw, is this the “COMODO Ghost” type app that was mentioned or is this something different?

Comodo Ghost will be part of this app.
