After troubleshooting I found the cause for the CPU-spikes by cmdagent.

I am also having this problem on my computer with XP, 2.67ghz cpu and 1gb of ram. The high cpu rate and high memory usage of cavwp.exe seems to happen when I have a number of webpages opening or reloading at the same time. Then sometimes, as I recall, the area between the uppermost bar or bars and the taskbar, ie the bulk of the screen, goes a white colour for a while until, presumably, the pages have loaded and then things ‘calm down’ to normal. Once the computer has switched off when this happens. I will try and take more particular note of what happens in future and report back here.
I’m gobsmacked at how many different prollems there are across differnt platforms, OS & CPU.
At this post I’m booted into WinXP SP3 on a TUV4X P3 Tualatin 1400 O/C [at] 145Mhz [at]3.6v VIO, 3x 512 MB PC133 non-ECC (Mosel Vitelic / Crucial) platform 1:1 system:FSB ; works good last long time.
:-\
People,
Activate the Game Mode and then deactivate it.
The problem then goes away, cavwp.exe goes to zero CPU usage.
Hello
Today I was nearly cavwp.exe to death
It used all of the available memory and cpu power. The reason was autoupdate. For some reason my CIS have to download and unpack virus signatures the way that my laptop becomes irresponsible for 20-30 minutes. As for now I disabled update and I hope I will be able to use my laptop without any trouble.
Edit: Oh well … Even with unchecked checkbox CIS decided to install new signatures database. This time I had taskmanager turned on so I could monitor step by step everything that CIS was doing. So, Comodo, please tell me, how the f*** you managed to mess the updater so badly? Why does it have to take 800MB-1.2GB of ram and 50-80% of cpu just to “install new signatures database”? What exactly is updater doing after downloading all those cav files and before inserting all of those BASE_UPD_* files (at the 13% mark according to the updater)?
Just a short note to this. I find it absolutely pathetic that COMODO has not taken this problem seriously and I have now removed the garbage from several of my machines. All my machines (64 of them) will have COMODO uninstalled until this is fixed.
This is a message to the lame answers of the moderators on this site.
GET REAL. THERE IS REAL PROBLEM and it is not a feature. If it is a spy thing then you people are disgusting and if not you are pathetic. There is no way around it people. This is YOUR mess and it is really ticking people off. Do not try to ask me any serious questions. You have asked the same garbage questions of dozens of people and still no FIX. That says a lot about your attitude.
Fix it or lose business! There is no other way for me now. You have ticked me off so much that even if you did fix it I would be seriously asking myself whether ever to trust you again.
That is a sad indictment of your company.
Cool story bro. ![]()
Hi Kasperle,
Please note: Moderators are ‘General Members’ just like yourself and not Comodo Staff.
We volunteer our time to help the Forum run smoothly.
While it is unfortunate that you have experienced issues, I do suggest that you tone down the attitude.
How to appeal against Moderators decisions
Thank you.
I must admit, the lack of response from Comodo staff is alarming. No criticism of the Mods, they always do the best they can.
I have Comodo AV set to do NO periodic scans, yet it STILL does scans, seemingly whenever it wants. CAVWP just went nutz today, and I had to suspend the process - even though I switched it from Stateful to Disabled, it still continued to run!
Even though the issue I raised months ago (excluding by HASHES) has been “escalated”, no change/update in the program has been forthcoming, and there has not even been an update on the status of the issue.
This is extremely concerning.
I am ready to look at paying for a GOOD and RESPONSIVE company …
just registered to say this:
uninstalling this sh*t. had if for years.
no more.
For the exact same reasons this thread has been started.
Was there any fix found for this issue? Or did Comodo techs made a documentation on how to troubleshoot this issue to eliminate the most possible causes?
One of my employees laptop just started experiencing this issue.
Oh my lord. It really seems my CPU usage issue is more widespread than I had believed.
I have been having this issue with Comodo 6 and just uninstalled it last night. Momentarily, the System process would end up constantly using over 10% of my 8-core CPU because of cmdagent.exe, so bad my system was jammed and completely STALLED. I ain’t putting up with this.
Please don’t cross post. This topic is about a problem with cavvwp.exe and not about a potential problem with cmdagent.exe.
I also had comodo, and cavwp use 25% of CPU. After switch off all comodo components - nothing changed - cavwp is rinning and use 25% CPU! I found very old forums, 2-3 years ago with questions about this problem. ((( nobody can fix it so many time?
I have this issue on all my computers. The problem for me is the Cache builder it runs all the time but never finishes. If i turn off the cache builder option
the problem goes away…strange the Comodo people don’t fix the issue with the cache builder because many has this problem and its not something new
with the 8 versions its been around for a long time ![]()
I have checked the bug report system but this problem has not been reported. If you have the time and energy please consider filing a bug report in the Bug Reports - CIS board following the format as described in FORMAT & GUIDE - just COPY/PASTE it!.
Reporting of bugs is strictly moderated to make sure Comodo gets clear bug reports. So, please make sure you closely follow protocol. That way your report will certainly be seen by Comodo staff.
I have a new angle on this problem. CIS responds to mcbuilder.exe (a Windows system file). It can be found in system32 folder. Adding it to the exclusions made a big big difference with my old netbook and noticeable but not spectacular difference with my desktop computer.
