cavwp.exe causing high CPU load, sometimes

Is there any way to change this? I have deactivated all Anti Virus in Comodo so far, so i would expect this module not to hog my CPU.

What is the CPU load when the computer is idle? For contrast what is it during a full scan?

It’s pretty much around 0-2%, on a quadcore CPU with Hyperthreading. So it’s only one core being hogged
from time to time, but i wanted to ask anyway.

What type of performance hit are you experiencing? With that sort of CPU load I wouldn’t think you’d experience any issues unless there is something else going on.

Well, i don’t know. But it’s irritating me, that those moduls keep going up to 80-100% core load for no apparent reason. If i disable AV, i expect those modules to do nothing.
So i wonder, what is going on there.

So, what kind of hidden scan is causing this? If i can’t turn this off, Comodo has to go from my system, sorry.

Try disabling the cache builder. This may be what is causing this.

Hi

A few days ago i had something similar but i didnt know what is was, so decide to uninstall CIS v7 beta and go back to my previous AV

Comodo have to check this issue, i have not enough experience in beta testing, but it was iritating me … it started after computer was idle for over 1 hour and it didnt stop when i was using computer again.
Maybe topic starter can make a bug report for this issue

PS: Where to find button to stop cache builder??? perhaps i will try next CIS beta7

Regards

No, sorry. That is something, Comodo has to figure out by themselves. Making those bug report is a pain.

PS: Where to find button to stop cache builder??? perhaps i will try next CIS beta

Open the config page → tasks → extended settings (translation may be not exact) → extended settings (yes, it’s there TWICE, for what reason ever) → security settings → anti virus → real time scan.

As you see, it’s well hidden. By the way, i’ve turned that off, but the high CPU is coming still back from time to time. I agree, Comodo is a good program. But the GUI is still a bit chaotic.

Hi thanks for your answer

I have tested latest 6.3 for two weeks and from time to time CIS was also hogging my system … so uninstalled.
With v7 beta it went fine the first 3 days untill i scheduled a full scan when computer was idle, i saw my computer working very intense and when i start using my computer it didnt stop (irritating) so i shut down system and it took about 1 min to shut down :o
When restarting there was a huge delay and slow boot time, almost 2 min to start my computer ! (normal boot-time is here around 35 sec with another AV)

I agree with you, CIS is a nice program but they haven’t convinced me yet, so i went back to my other AV also a free internet security suite that scored the same protection level as CIS on the latest AV-test but with better performance and usability.
So CIS got to be ■■■■ good to make me switch …

Regards

If someone can replicate this, and it is causing problems for the system, please do create a bug report for it. Also, and this is something which I would ask for the bug report, when this is happening please open up KillSwitch. Then right-click on any of the processes and select Create Dump. Then select to create full dump. This will create a dump of everything which is happening right then. You can then upload the dump file to a file sharing site, such as this one and paste the download link in your report.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks.

Sound simple. But seems, like it don’t have Kill Switch installed. Is there a way, to install it still?

It can be downloaded through CIS. Just flip the main page to the tasks side. Then go to the section for “Advanced Tasks”. Click on “Watch Activity”. CIS will then download and launch KillSwitch.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I’ve been having the same problem. I have had the AV disabled the whole time because I used a different scanner for that. I also went in to settings and disabled anything automatic, such as ‘real time scans’, but it kept doing it every few days or so, not sure exactly on the time.

Well, I’m still new to the layout of this updated CIS. The old version kept saying there was no new update, but it had been so long I just decided to check the site, and there was one. I wanted the update because with the old version, comodo.exe, or maybe it was cmd.exe, kept giving 5 minute long cpu spikes, totally bogging my system.

So I got this one, and now it’s this new process spiking!

Anyway, I just checked the ‘tasks’ section and lo and behold, an AV scan is running! It’s all disabled, AV should not be running. I pressed the little stop button, but…I had already killed the two processes manually so now this task manager window just says ‘terminating’ and it’s stuck like that.

Also, the scan window which popped up for me is stuck as well, I can’t even close it out. The timer is ticking down, but the scan is obviously stalled since the processes were killed. I guess I have to reboot to get out of this.

So, bottom line, even with the AV disabled, it is still performing a scheduled scan of some kind. It has to be a default scan because I have never setup any custom scans, so that is your answer. Comodo auto scans are running without permission even when disabled. If you need logs for this, I can try and do it the next time it happens, but this really sounds like an easy fix. ‘Disable’ is not disabling.

Look these at 2 options.

Try OFF.

The first one was greyed out because I had real time scans disabled, but I still had the cache builder checked, so I unchecked that. I’ll see if that one does it for me, however, as I said before, it looked like an actual scan was running.

recently I started to experience this problem.
sometimes 25% cpu load (one core) sometimes 50%. only solution was to restart computer.
today I said enough is enough and after years of using comodo I uninstalled it.
I will be still using firewall, but it is shame that this long known bug is not resolved and comodo is loosing people

cavwp.exe causing high cpu load here also. I noticed this last night after logging on to a vista machine with CIS 6.3.etc installed. The behavior on that machine is acting very similar to an xp machine with CIS 5.12 installed that I have been monitoring closely over the last couple of days (see thread a few below this one).

The only difference I am seeing is, on the xp machine with CIS 5.12 that cmdagent is the high cpu usage culprit, and the vista machine with 6.3 installed cavwp.exe is the culprit.

I also noticed during the highest peaks of CPU usage on the machine with CIS 6.3 installed, the cache cleaner was running, but after it had completed, the CPU usage dropped… tho slightly, and system still performing sluggish similar to the xp system.

What happens if you disable the cache builder?

I disable it and make updates to once a day.
Also i exclude safe regions from the scanner. As defense+ should protect against an attempting virus.
