Announcing Comodo Secure DNS Service

Thanks, wasgij…you got my point…

i was trying to find a malware site that is being blocked to see how the dns page differs from the content filter but i couldnt find one. thats not good. its still an early beta so no worries.

Yes we were, as the CTO of DNS.com I worked with the authors of the IETF draft to become one of the first authoritative DNS providers to use this technology. We also are supporting this in our recursive package as well.

The interface between blocked / malware sites and a content filtered site is the same, only the categorization changes. IE if it’s a malware defined site it will say MALWARE where it would normally show ADULT

Can we expect any in future ?

or Can CIS manage this some how as a Parental Control module ?

We only have Dynamic DNS here, so obviously hard to test anything…every time, I have to log in to SecureDNS page and re initiate my new IP address…(Everytime, I disconnect and connect…real pain)

Is there a way to add a custom list of sites to block? or a custom phrase or word to block (like a custom black list)?

By the way, I tested some of the known sites and the service is working fine for me. I see there is a common message in the blocked page (only category line changes), hope this changes in future.

Why isn’t it mentioned on the linked page then? Is it because it’s not publicly released yet?

Yes, there is API support for this, the client side toolset just has not been released yet.

This would be nice (and expected) functionality. I hope this is added in the future. I don’t know if a word block would be possible, but a custom blacklist (and whitelist for that matter…) seems like necessary functionality.

That would be great… Awaiting it’s integration in CIS.

Most of the porn sites in our country contain some local language words in their URL not any English word…So, It would be nice If we have a chance to add sites containing such words in URL…(I/any body will not know all sites to add to blacklist, it would be clever if we just add the phrase to search for in URL)

I didn’t mean integration into CIS. I meant that there will be support for dynamic IP addresses. I suspect it will be something similar to the IP updater that OpenDNS uses to synchronize your current IP with the dashboard.

It will be useful for non CIS users…

But, for CIS users, such functionality can simply be implemented in to CIS as a Parental Control Module…isn’t it?

is the content filtering working for you guys?

Yes, it is for me…

But, it stops many sites such as mediafire and youtube too…I need to figure out a way to avoid this.

Let’s say yes… I typed “porn” in google and tried to open first 20 pages… 13 of them was blocked so

13/20 - 65%

Malware blocking could be better, because now it’s poor.

but were they all porn sites?
it could be sites talking about porn but not necessarily porn?

Maybe, I didn’t look at them so deeply.
Children shouldn’t look at sites “talking” about porn either.
I’m sure that most of them were with ■■■■■ videos etc.

got to get an exclusion(exclude sites from being blocked like youtube) feature up and running.

Can this new DNS service be used (by using 8.26.56.26 and 8.20.247.20) without registering, like the current Comodo DNS? I don’t care to set up filters, I just want the security.

Correct, all you need to do is configure the IP’s to be your DNS resolver and you are set.

Thanks, I’m going to give it a test run! :-TU

Hi ,what is the difference between comodo secure dns preinstall in CIS and thi?
