YouTube subtitles now greyed-out, video errors on YouTube, high resource usage

Hi, I have been using Comodo Dragon for some time now, and suddenly Youtube subtitles are greyed-out, making them nearly impossible to read. Also, for some reason, I have YouTube returning a playback error on some videos seemingly at random, where I have to reload the page for it to work. I am also finding that resource usage is absurdly high (it does not take 90% of 2.6GHz + 2Gb of RAM to play a 2 minute video at 480p totaling 4Mb in a window element in normal circumstances).

I have already tried running windows on a skeleton of services and the problem remains. Also, why does there have to be 6 instances of Dragon for two pages in tabs? When I play a game, I don’t need six instances of the game to play it, one will generally suffice. Or is this a Chrome thing, because of Google’s pathetically-amateur coding? I already checked for “grey out YouTube subtitles”, “begin memory leakage”, and “random packet-dropping on YouTube only” in the settings, but I cannot find them. If someone knows where these checkboxes are, I would love to know.

(On another note, the [preview] button doesn’t even work on this forum!)

This is exactly why I tossed Google Chrome some time back, because it seemed to think that memory-leakage was a “good thing”. I know Comodo Dragon is based off of Chrome, but couldn’t you actually improve upon it? I like Dragon for my ability to disassemble web pages with it, but it always has to be accompanied by another browser for me to have full browser functionality online.

Hi PromPB!

Thank you for your feedback!

We haven’t managed to reproduce the grey-out problem of YouTube subtitles. Can you please tell us what version of Comodo Dragon are you using and the specs of your PC and what other extensions do you use? And regarding the high number of Dragon instances, that’s a thing inherited from Chromium, and besides the fact every tab runs in it’s own instance, the 3 important threads are running each in a different instance. And for the high memory usage, please try and disable Media Grabber and Comodo Online Security add-ons and see if that fixes the issue.

Instead of the text being white, it is grayed-out, as you can see. It displays just fine in Firefox, so it is likely not YouTube specifically. I can not only reproduce the grayed-out text, it is a continuous issue. It just suddenly changed, and has never changed back. However, non-embedded subtitles have displayed correctly on other sites with video.

Another problem I am having is the loss of window focus. I will lose browser focus mid-sentence. Yet another issue that has just come up very recently is line-returns are being doubled in a YouTube comment window; as in, it is sending the packet(s) with an additional line return for some reason.

So when I type this:

"Happy new year!

Free â– â– â– â–  tonite!"

And use only one line-return, it will post as this:

"Happy new year!

Free â– â– â– â–  tonite!"

As yet another issue is, on occasion, at random, I will lose the ability to scroll with the mouse wheel. It just stops working altogether, yet dragging the scroll bar still works normally. The mouse-wheel scrolling just simply quits working altogether, but for some reason, reloading the page solves it. I’m not sure, but this may be related to the “lost focus” issue. This also happens primarily with YouTube for some reason, but not exclusively YouTube.

Okay so instances are an inherited issue from Chromium. I can manage that if I really have to with thread priority. But if there is a fix for the YouTube issues, that would be great because I do a lot of my work there, as well as other sites that use the same coding. As I said before, the [Preview] radio button on this very form is not functional as well (javascript error?), so I hope this turns out okay. To add, the shortcut on this form (alt+P) does not work either on this very same browser.

Oddly the lack of spellcheck that I had before suddenly cured itself (for now, maybe). What seems apparent though is that the container for streaming video either has a memory leak or is somehow running redundant routines in memory, enough so that I have actually had an “out of memory” error that crashed the entire machine at the kernel-level (the “you’re boned” kind of crash, hard reset), but not as of late, however I get very close sometimes.

Someone else had the same issue I had with logging into Disqus, getting a connection error in the newly-generated window, and I have not seen a fix for that yet. Well anyway, I hope this can be helpful, because I would really like to NOT straddle two separate browsers just to get the job done…I have a few other issues, but I want to pace myself to what is most important, relative to this thread, without “flooding” it too much. Thanks in advance for working on these issues. Whatever this issue is, it seems to definitely have something to do with how Dragon interprets YouTube.

Hi PromPB!

Thank you for your feedback!

Regarding the subtitles on the YouTube videos. Go to the settings button from within the video, click on the subtitles and there you will see their corresponding settings. From there you should be able to reset/change the subtitles to look the way they did before. And for the memory leakage please disable the Media Downloader extension, as it searches in the background for videos to download. Also check the browsers own task manager(shift + escape) and see which tab is consuming a lot of memory. And for the comments problem we are still testing as we can’t reproduce the issue.

Okay, what I did find was that somehow the font opacity setting on YouTube had been changed to 25%. -SOLVED thank you.
The double-spacing on the comments happens every time, still investigating.
Mouse wheel scrolling continues to be an issue, as it will suddenly stop functioning at random, as if it lost the hook for the mouse (but only for the wheel). I still believe that this might be related to the “lost focus” issue.

I’ll try to get a memory dump once I have triggered the issue(s), if that will help any.

I myself stopped using comodo dragon, now I’m using Vivaldi. I really wish the COMODO team would abandon the browser and use all the resources and time to improve COMODO Internet Security Premium 2025.

Hi,

Thank you for your feedback. While we’re sorry to hear you feel this way, our team is dedicated to continuously improving what we offer. We welcome constructive input, and if you have specific suggestions or concerns, we’d be happy to listen.
