XP is out of mainstream support on April 14th!

Guess who’s running both XP and Office 2003!

XP did enjoy a good run.

I agree, it’s just that it’s annoying that XP users won’t be able to directly upgrade to Windows 7 when it’s released either!

:frowning:

Microsoft better be joking.
Almost all of my client are still too dependent to XP.
Most of them always refuse when I offer a discounted Vista installation.

…this is just great.
Way to go MicroSh*t.

I thought they were going to work on a way to allow an XP user to upgrade? I don’t remember where I saw this, so I may be remembering wrong. I will have to find that web page again.

Agreed! >:(

I honestly can’t believe they’d make us pay money to upgrade to Vista, to then pay MORE money to upgrade to Windows 7! >:(

Btw, the article doesn’t say this, it’s just an assumption on my part, knowing Microsoft 88)

What this means is that support in the way of phone support is to be ended on the 14th.

Security patches/hotfixes etc made available via Windows Update will still be available for another 5 years.

Someone correct me if I am wrong

No.

another 5 years: It’s only for corporate companies and OEM venders.
MS will not support public users anymore.
It means? Windows XP users should upgrade windows XP to windows 7.

The last link from Creasy’s post stated:

The only Windows Vista® versions eligible for the program are :
  1. Windows Vista® Home Premium
  2. Windows Vista® Business
  3. Windows Vista® Ultimate
  • Microsoft Windows Vista® Home Basic, Windows Vista® Starter Edition, and Windows® XP (all editions) are not qualifying products under the program.

There you go.
Windows XP user won’t be able to upgrade their installation to Windows 7.

Nice…

Best I can tell tsec has got it right.

A link of pertinence.

I meant different thing.

You can’t upgrade XP(OS) to windows 7(OS).

But You can upgrade you XP(License) to windows 7(License) with specified price.
(the price is classfied now)

no…
Please read my reply.

There are 2 separate issues here.

XP is still viable for security updates till 2014.

You have 5 more years to save up for Win 8? 88)

The upgrade path from XP to Win 7 is too complex to be worthwhile
for MS to develop. Vastly different systems.

Later

The link you posted is wrong
It was posted year 2007…check it out…

MS changed the Policy. It’s different now.

Reading from where ?
I do believe they have changed several times. Where you see latest word?

You believe this page is out of date?

Even if we can upgrade our XP license to later version…
But how does it will do us good to our live installation now?
Why purchase the license if the user can’t upgrade to their new licensed OS seamlessly?

For any average Joe, this license would be useless.
They can’t upgrade to the new OS while keeping their computer just how the way they like it.
Yet, they’re forced to switch to the new OS.

…it’s a different situation when they decide to closed Win9x support for good.
XP is not Win9x.

I think somebody must sue Microsoft over this.
It’s more like scamming scene.
This got nothing to do with our future in computing world.

They deliberately broke the product.
It’s not broken, duh!

I have use Vista.
And I’m not happy!

…and just how vast is this differences anyway?
That’s a total BS!
They own the code for half of the world’s PC.
They’re THE drugs dealer.
They create the formula.

If Windows 7 can read any file I create on my XP, then how come they won’t support the migration?
BS!

No.
It(2014) means MS will support corporate companies and OEM venders(who sells XP installed PC).

You have 5 more years to save up for Win 8? 88)
I don't understand what are you talking about.
The upgrade path from XP to Win 7 is too complex to be worthwhile for MS to develop. Vastly different systems.
So, I already told you. You can't upgrade XP(OS) to windows 7(OS).

But You can upgrade you XP(License) to windows 7(License) with specified price.
(the price is classfied now)

This link explains it further, and how we have all been hearing for sometime. Everything is ok, I think.

What are you talking about?
