i have the same problem…i get the red circle when i open another windows user profile
the firewall continue working properly despite the bug or no?
I don’t know guys. If you get a Defense+ or Firewall Alert, then yes it’s working despite red cross. Apologize for the inconvenience.
Cheers,
Josh
Yes it does continue working properly. I carried out a leak test while the red circle was showing and got 320/320 - see attached image.

Welcome.
This is a bug. It will be fixed in a future update.

Try Miscellaneous > Diagnostics just in case.
I once asked your CEO by email to never submit to the temptation to do what Zone Alarm did (A once good firewall).
i.e. not to allow Comodo to become bloatware and he said you would never do that. However, the bundling together of the firewall and the Anti-virus program is headed right in that direction! Ever since the CIS thing was issued, people have had problems including the one with the NO Entry sign over the task bar icon. Since no solution has been issued for this, I assume that you think it is not important. However, if it truly means that Comodo cannot find a required sub-routine (dll) then it is indeed very serious, since there may be no protection active at all! Uninstalling and re-installing doesn’t work in at least one case I know of.
It seems to me that the problem is connected with Windows XP+SP3, since it doesn’t happen with SP2, but who cares, right?
I have been recommending Comodo to my clients for a while now, but I am thinking of uninstalling Comodo and recommending other solutions.

The installer allows you to install only the components you want in CIS.
When getting this tray icon bar, CIS is still working properly, just not reporting the status correctly.
I installed few weeks ago Comodo Firewall v. 3.12.111… and since few days this bug shows up, after I did yesterday an update, it dissapeared, but today the red sign is there again. Okay, after doing some searching on this forum, I know it’s supposed to be a harmless bug, but that doesn’t take away the fact that it is a little bit annoiyng. This bug is already reported here since november 2008, I think it takes to much time to solve this…, not? Why?
What red sign do you mean? The red circle in the Comodo Shield? That means there is something wrong. Please start with running Diagnostics (under Miscellaneous) and see what it says and if it can fixed.
Running diagnostics doesn’t help - neither does reinstalling, in case anyone’s about to suggest that.
The red circle appears when a second Windows user profile is opened up. Who knows why? But a leak test doesn’t reveal any problems and my computer hasn’t been compromised so I’ve stopped worrying about it.
It’s been like this for months and months. They say it’s a known bug and will be fixed, but it seems nobody knows how to fix it.
What do you mean with when a second Windows user profile is opened up?
More than one person can log in to Windows on the same computer at the same time. As long as only one person is logged in to their profile, Comodo is fine. As soon as a second user logs in to another profile (“switch user”), the red circle appears in the systray icon.
The following is a total long shot. May be it is of help for you.
AV not working and Local System Account

This issue is know by the developers and they are looking at it. The issue didn’t exist in version .424 and .427, but started showing up intermittently in version .432 and also now in .437. I have two Vista Ultimate computers configured exactly alike and only one of them is affected by this issue. There is a workaround for this, however it doesn’t seem to work for everyone.
Go to Control Panel → Administrative Tools → Services and scroll down to Comodo Internet Security Helper Service. Right click on this service and go down to the Properties and left-click it. This will bring up a window with 4 tabs. Go to the Log On tab and search for your login account. The procedure that you have to follow to successfully change from Local System Account to This Account is not necessarily self-intuitive, if you have never done it before.
You may know exactly what you are doing, but I found that this process was not exactly straight-forward when I did it. I don’t mean to waste your time, but the step-by-step procedure is listed below.
After hitting the ‘Browse’ button, a ‘Select User’ box opens up. In the window under ‘Enter the object name to select (examples)’, enter your login name exactly as it appears on the login screen at bootup. Then click the ‘Check Names’ button. Now “computer name\login name” should appear in that same window. Click the ‘OK’ button near the bottom. That should bring you back to the Log On tab, with the radio button to the left of ‘This Account’ filled in, and in the window to the right of that should be “.\your login name”. Click ‘Apply’ and a popup opens to alert you to enter your password if you use a password for your Windows logon. Then you have to enter your login password again to confirm. After doing all this, you have to reboot the computer for the account change to take effect. Now CIS version .432 or .437 should allow you to manually update the virus definitions.
There is an entire thread about this problem on Anti Virus Bugs\Can’t update virus database CIS 3.5.55810.432 [Merged Threads].
Thank you - I appreciate your effort in digging up this information.
I fixed the link at the end of my previous reply so you can take a look at the topic: https://forums.comodo.com/anti_virus_help/comodo_internet_security_wont_update_its_virus_definitions-t31097.0.html .
Any idea when this ‘bug’ will be fixed as I am still having the red circle problem. according to previous quotes [ dec 18th 2008] a fix was due. It will clear if i restart a couple of times and the diagnostic tool says ‘nothing found’.
