The installer won't open

Hello I can’t install Comodo as the installer isn’t working. After the self-extraction happens, nothing appears. It eventually closes in Task Manager. I’ve tried it with both the online and offline installer.

Disabling Windows Defender Antivirus and Windows Firewall doesn’t work. I’m using Windows 10 21H2

See below for details.

Maybe the following helps.

  • log on to Windows 10 as admin.
  • run ciscleanuptool (follow instructions).
  • install the offline installer again.

Did you have CIS installed (and running) on that computer previously or is this a fresh / new CIS install on that computer?

You could try this too:

  1. restart Windows 10 into Safe Mode.
  2. run ciscleanuptool (follow instructions).
  3. restart Windows 10 normally and log on as admin.
  4. install the offline installer again.

  1. Boot your device into safe mode.
  2. Download and run the ciscleanuptool bit type(32/64bit) according to your system bit type. (Refer the below link to download the ciscleanuptool)

  3. As soon as the ciscleanuptool completes the cleaning, boot your device in normal mode.

I had previously installed CIS in May for the first time on Windows on a fresh windows installation on the very first day of it, uninstalled it last week and am right now trying to install it again.

My computer and windows installation is 64 bit.

I’m not sure but is it normal to see three 32-bit CIS applications running in your Task Manager while CIS is being installed?
I would expect to see 64-bit CIS applications running while CIS is being installed on a 64-bit system.

You can see that the SHA1 hashes both match for both files, so I downloaded the correct files. See the image below.

Do you have any applications running (other security suites perhaps) that could prevent or possibly interfere with CIS installation?

You probably don’t even need to run the cleanup tool, just clear your temp folder and delete comodo folders from the programdata and program files directory, as long as you don’t have other comodo products installed e.g. comodo dragon, secure shopping, etc. Then run the CIS installer by using run as administrator context menu instead of just double clicking it. If it still fails to install you can grap the installation logs from the temp folder, look for cmdinstall.7z archive files.

I’ve tried deleting the files from these directories that said Comodo

  • c:\programdata
  • c:\program files
  • c:\program files (x86)
  • %appdata%
  • %localappdata
  • %temp% (I even went a step further by deleting everything inside the temporary folder)

And it still doesn’t work. Running the installer “as administrator” doesn’t help either.

  1. Run the cis premium installer.
  2. open task manager and kill the first process (comodo internet security (32bit)).
  3. wait for installer to start.
  4. If installer doesn’t start now, again run the cis premium and check if it starts now.
