Repeatedly sandboxing a non-existent file: Ask.com/UpdateTask.exe [Renamed]

Hi I’m new here…:))))Actually I was browsing the net, searching for a help with the same "UpdateTask.exe"problem…and finally I saw this forum  . I have Comodo Internet security on my computer and I love how this thing works. Ok…let’s get to the point,I was searching for all files and folders to find “UpdateTask.exe” and nothing, then I tried to put just "Ask"word and nothing again…finally I tried to type "update for ask toolbar"and it found a wordpad text document but in the name of the file was BITCOMET I used to have that ■■■■ in my computer, but unninstalled it…that piece probably left behind…ok I deleted that and empty my recycle bean, but still getting the same notification “UpdateTask.exe,”…please help if anyone have a solution for this how to fix it,…I’m scanning my computer once a day with Comodo and do the CCleaner every day…I also have a yahoo antispy and they can’t find any viruses on the computer…I’m worried so please help me …

A possible solution: look in your Windows Scheduler. This may be something the scheduler has listed. Simply removing it from the scheduler will resolve this issue. I had this same exact issue, and removing this non-existent file from the scheduler resolved it for me.

Ok I tried but computer warns me when I try to open taskschd.dll (task cheduler) and I’m afraid to open it. ??? now what to do?..please I have win 7 I forgot to say, explain me how to open this and how it could affect on my pc :(…I’m sorry if I’m boring but pls help…

Welcome to the Forums, Ksennija013.

I have Win7 x64
Type ‘Task Scheduler’ in your Windows Start (button) Search bar. Select ‘Task Scheduler’ when it appears in the search results list.
Open up the folders (shown in the left pane) until you locate the file you seek. Right click on the file name and select ‘Delete’.
The file name is now removed from the scheduler.
This worked for me.

;D Thanks my long distance friend, I found it…“Update for Ask toolbar” and I deleted it, just as you said I hope it will never show up again…

Thank you for this thread.
I had the same Ask.com Update annoyance and I discovered it only existed in my Task Scheduler.
I now realize I once (1+ year ago) had to install the Ask.com toolbar to be able to install an other program.
Even though I uninstalled it right after with Advanced Uninstaller the task remained active.
I guess my Windows Firewall never thought anything of it being active, and it was only after installing Comodo Internet Security I got alerted to it.

Ask.com should be marked as being malware in my opinion ! >:(

reference Is finaluninstaller.com Safe? finaluninstaller Reviews & Safety Check | WOT and further http://www.malwaredomains.com/files/domains.txt to find it listed as a malware-bearing / malicious website. revo uninstaller is a recommended alternative.

agreed. they’ve become far too pushy. all of these companies are getting out of hand with their toolbar. one software I installed recently, had the toolbar bound to the EULA (license agreement), so that the other software couldn’t be installed without accepting the toolbar installation. for the life of me, i wish i could remember which, or how many times these companies have bundled annoying toolbar after toolbar (assumedly for datamining purposes) with software that is otherwise tolerable. it’s gotten so bad that when i use a computer one of my family members is using, they have like 10 freaking toolbars installed in their browser!

Thanks to all of the crafty and knowledgable Members who helped me solve the mystery of UpdateTask.exe popping up and detected by the Comodo Sandbox. Earlier in the day I had installed the Foxit Reader which now comes with the Ask Toolbar which I immediately removed with Revo Uninstaller Pro, but it left this task in the Task Scheduler.

:)Thanks Zodiac, it worked for me.

Am also having this problem. The ask toolbar “infected” my system when installing foxit reader 4. Silly me for not reading the installation instruction carefully. Whoever wants to install foxit reader 4 should read this first.

Back to topic… I search my system for “Ask” like The Zodiac did and find several Ask leftover including file named “pending update for Ask Toolbar”. After delete all of em guess everything fine now.

I just wanted to add, I have had the exact same issue with “Google Update”. After checking Task Scheduler, I found a few other programs no longer installed still in the task scheduling! As usual it’s MS hard at work but I look at it this way, at least it wasn’t “Blue Screening”! Thanks Comodo for such an awesome Tool!

hello same here… but I recognize the old files… 2 trojans I had one year ago and an silly software that I tested for free memory… but these files were deleted and I cleaned reg even had an deep look at regedit.exe for any traces but nothing… no files at my computer, no traces at registry and sandbox keep telling me these files are here (and I did check task manager even in safe mode)… well can somebody help me?

I installed the software yesterday and found amazing (despite sandbox) and I wanna keep it on my computer and recomend to my friends… but since that I received so far 179 warnings all from the same 3 files… cheers

please look in the task manager, I’m betting they will be there.

lol I wrote in my message “(and I did check task manager even in safe mode)”, because I know sometimes that’s the 1st place to search running objects and they are not there …

I read an old posts here in this topic and I made the scan with Eusing Free Registry Cleaning… it’s unbelievable! yesterday I checked with COMODO System Cleaner and found a few invalid file and folders… but with Eusing now found other 513 errors… well I cleaned and rebooted and again the sandbox warn me about these files… I runned Hitman Pro 3.5 to check and it found just a few cookies… here goes my prnt scrn of task manager…

I’m running Windows 7 (32bit original) in a Dell 2Gb ram Pentium Dual-Core T3200

I think languy means check Task Scheduler. You will probably find a reference to that program that is no longer valid but trips CIS.

yeah I do, why did I say task manager? 88)

voilà!!

txs very much!!! not only I found these files but I also found many other old references of many softwares that I’ve tested… I think would be an good idea if an next version of COMODO system cleaner could check these references… I’m just uploading prnt scrn of this to maybe another user in the future have the same problem.

btw, so far I find COMODO much better than anyother congrat and txs again

BEST FIX
Download autoruns, click Scheduled Tasks… Update for Ask Toolbar… File not found: C:\Program Files (x86)\Ask.com\UpdateTask.exe…, remove tick or right click remove task.

I will now be UN-installing Comodo Firewall because of the continued notifications of Comodo firewall aking, Do i want to keep updatetask.exe sandboxed.

This problem has existed for a long time and still has not been resolved.

Thank you for what was a good product an support.
