Problems with certificates [split topic]

That’s why I recommend to add a blank/empty page as a substance to https://download.comodo.com/ so that people don’t see the 404 error in their browser anymore but a blank/empty page instead.

That requires Comodo to change that page. Such a request may not be taken into consideration or may take long to be implemented because it is only a very minor inconvenience.

I accessed https://download.comodo.com with FF and without certificate error it also shows the 404 error. See attached image.

It means that the 404 error is not related to the issue with certificates and should not be used as a test case.

As test case either run the CIS updater or try downloading an installer of one of the Comodo products.

I really dont have much to add in this conversation. All I want to say is I get the same screen as EricJH. Firefox, Dragon and Edge. Nothing else to add

The whole world sees that 404-page in their browser when visiting https://download.comodo.com.

When people were having download problems they were advised to use https://cdn.download.comodo.com as a download workaround for the time being.

Surprisingly is that:

https://download.comodo.com - shows the 404-page in browsers
https://cdn.download.comodo.com - shows a nice blank/empty page in browsers.

The substance in https://cdn.download.comodo.com is just an empty html body in https://download.comodo.com the html body contains a few lines to display the 404-error message.
It would be not too difficult to make that body empty too to increase user friendliness I guess…

I agree. It would be nice if the someone from the Comodo Staff to the simple changes there. I wish I could do it myself as its pretty simple.

That page is simply not available for browsers but is available for the program updater.

That advice was for the program updater. People should not access it with a browser. Some browsers will give a 403 (access denied) message. That is clear enough.

Anybody, who was not part of the mini crowd that was accessing those pages in the wrong believe that was a valid test case, and would access those pages would immediately understand there was nothing to see.

FF gives a blank page with the cdn link. Opera (Chrome) and Vivaldi show the access denied message with error 403. Opera Classic shows “The remote server refuses to perform the request. This address is not available.”. All very clear that cdn.download.comoco.com is not available. Actually the 403 message it means it is forbidden.

Both the 404 and 403 message indicate that the requested page is not available and the browsers are not agreeing on how to present the 403 error. So I see little use to adapt the web site’s response only because a minute group is getting confused by the error messages shown. Their confusion is about misinterpreting the http error as a test case for problems with certificates. That’s where the error resides and confusion starts.

The error messages are clear and are not meant to deal with misguided interpretations.
