Glad to hear that!!!
;D
Just updated to version 10 and very irritated by the desktop shortcut that refuses to go away! I always keep my shortcuts in a folder on the desktop as I have so many and I have moved the shortcut there but it just creates a new copy on the desktop. I have deleted it it - it creates a new one , I move it to a corner - it moves back to top left where I don’t want it… I am running windows 7 home edition - yes I know it’s old but I can’t afford a new computer. Comodo never starts with windows, I have to manually start it each logon…It’s another minor irritation but a known issue and I’ve given up waiting for a fix.
I am still running Windows Vista and noticed this problem myself too. I added an “x” to the filename of the Cistray.exe file to prevent it from running, and then put a shortcut to Cis.exe in my startup folder. I required adminstrator permission to run so I know for sure it’s running. It shortcuts to my toolbar instead of where the icons are located, and I can’t “exit” but it’s still less annoying than the Cistray’s behavior. Task manager shows it is running and Cis.exe reports that the firewall is active when I check it, so I think it’s a good enough fix for now.
dragonqueen,
You’re not alone in your frustration with that Desktop shortcut. My Recycle Bin was filling up with deleted Comodo Desktop shortcuts. The way it keeps on re-appearing is very annoying. Even trying to delete the shortcut permanently does not remove it.

Known issue that is going to be fixed in upcoming release this week.
I know you guys are coming up with a fix, also know you’ve put out a beta but guys… a simple icon issue and …13 days later?
Hi Lintly,
Some things are not always as simple as they appear, fixing one issue has potential to cause other issues so testing is required.
Besides, 13 days is not long at all compared to an average lifetime.
Kind regards.
A better question might be, why this even happened in the first place? Being that EVERYONE is affected by this, this updated is the same for all, how in the world was this bug not found BEFORE it was distributed? None of the testers actually bothered saying “Hey we might have a problem here look at this icon that keeps popping right back”? That one… really escapes me totally.
I think you know the answer to that
Not all users like a Desktop icon, but most are not bother.
I might have only one, but some have numerous
Dennis
That doesn’t make much sense, it means that 100% of the testers never moved this icon, never deleted this icon, no sense at all. That icon is not only annoying but it’s aggressive, where ever you place it, it will go back to the FIRST possible spot on the desktop, after a reboot, everyone would have seen that.
Another question would be: why adding this “feature” in the first place?
And the next one is: when will it finally be fixed? I’m now afraid to even look at the Comodo icon in the system tray…
Exactly that last question I mean jay for a beta but attaching a memory editor to CISTRAY finding the instruction that creates the shortcut and NOPPING it (yes it’s a bad way to do stuff) would take care of the problem (finding the instuction and nopping it takes approximatly 4 hours tops if your good in assembly and using a mem editor). The only problem would be that I would need to load the memory editor every time on CISTRAY.EXE for a bug Comodo was kind enough to create and takes forever to roll out to general public.
I had to register to the forum just to be able to find out that everybody out there has the same problem than me … strange policy … but since I had to register, let me add my voice … >:-D
Adding an icon back and back again to the desktop at each user interface action does not look like a “feature”. More like a bug and a very odd one … That makes me wondering how is this product coded (with feet maybe ? >:( ), structured … and tested of course as another user says.
Given the apparent complexity of the fix, and time to release it, may I suggest to the Comodo product team to add a test in their non regression test suite (hoping there is one :a0) to prevent this bug from reappearing next time ?
Impatiently waiting for the next “release” … erwin9
Two things worked for me in Windows 7. One is to use Windows Explorer [or similar] to go to this folder:
C:\Program Files\COMODO\COMODO Internet Security\
Find the three cfgx files:
COMODO - Firewall Security.cfgx
COMODO - Internet Security.cfgx
COMODO - Proactive Security.cfgx
Edit each on in Notepad or similar text editor. Search within the file for ShowDesktopIcon. COMODO has set it to “1” and you change it to “0”. Save and close the files after editing.
Reboot the PC. If the icon shows on the Desktop after rebooting, right click on it, open Properties and click the settings on the General tab for Read Only and Hidden. Click OK.
Right click on the icon select Delete and click Yes.
These two work for me unless I open the COMODO Firewall to change settings. Then I have to go back and change the icon properties again.
Hello everyone version 10.0.1.6223 was releaed to fix this issue, so please check and report if it is fixed for you or you still experiacne this bug. Also for best results do a clean uninstall then install again. Thanks
Hi there, Comodo Firewall just prompted me to update with that new release, so I did it.
Reboot.
Icon still there from previous re-re-re…occurrence, but remove it one more time … and it’s gone, no more coming back whatever I do on the UI.
So that seems to work. Thank you :-TU
