[Merged] Comodo Internet Security 10 keeps creating desktop shortcut [M2195]

Just upgraded to CIS 10.0.1.6209 from 8.4.0.5165. I placed the new CIS icon where I used to have the old one, renaming it as just “comodo.” However, unlike the prior version, CIS now insists in relocating the icon’s position to the place selected by the installation and renaming it back to its very long full name many times within the same logging session. I cannot find a setting to stop CIS from modifying my Windows 7 desktop. Does anyone here know how to stop such annoying behavior? TIA.

That little quirk has already been noted by a few people. No doubt it’ll be fixed soon

I’ve made a temporary workaround for this problem - removed write access to C:\Users\Public\Desktop folder for all users.

I recently upgraded to Comodo Antivirus 10 (10.0.1.6209) clean antivirus installation because the auto update failed, after installation I always remove the desktop shortcuts created cause I don’t use them anyway. However with this new 10 version whenever you do an action in the settings (for example Enable or Disable Silent Mode or Switching Basic View to Advanced View) a desktop shortcut COMODO Antivirus is created. There is a reason I remove the shortcut and I am not asking this program to create a shortcut. So why does it keep polluting my desktop whenever you perform a task in the Comodo Antivirus GUI?

1: CIS version:
10.0.1.6209
2: OS version:
Windows 10 1607 (14393.953) 64-bit
3: What you did:
Deleted the desktop shortcut
4: What you actually saw:
Desktop shortcut keeps getting after a task is performed in the GUI of the antivirus.
5: What you expected to happen or see:
No desktop shortcut creation

I got the same problem. It is quite annoying, since i always try to keep a clean Desktop.
I had Comodo Internet Security Premium 10 and got an update to the latest version (10.0.1.6209).

1: CIS version:
10.0.1.6209
2: OS version:
Windows 10 64bit
3: What you did:
Deleted the desktop shortcut
4: What you actually saw:
Desktop shortcut keeps getting created when clicking “silent mode”(translated from german), when clicking on advanced Settings, when restarting the PC.
5: What you expected to happen or see:
No shortcut restoration.

Just wanted to start a new topic with the same Problem.

1: CIS version:
10.0.1.6209
2: OS version:
Windows 7 64bit
3: What you did:
Deleted the desktop shortcut
4: What you actually saw:
Desktop shortcut keeps getting created approximately every 5 minutes.
5: What you expected to happen or see:
No shortcut restoration.

I’ve been prompted to install the latest version of Comodo Firewall (v10) and I’ve just discovered that it automatically creates a desktop shortcut shortly after I put the useless & unwanted thing in the trash bin. I don’t know whether this is a bug or not, but so far I haven’t found any option to prevent this annoying behaviour and I’d be supremely happy to get rid of it for good. Any help please?

On Windows 10 Pro 64-bit…

The latest version of CIS keeps reinstalling a desktop icon for the main app interface (or even just settings interface only) after viewing and closing the interface. Since I prefer to have zero icons on my desktop, this is incredibly annoying, but I haven’t found anywhere in the settings to stop this behavior (it is possible I’m missing it somewhere).

Does anyone know how to stop this behavior? If so, please share with me how to do so.

Thanks,
Drake

Having this exact same issue, though on Win7 64-bit. I have not found any setting either to turn this off.

■■■■ annoying to say the least.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1

My recycle bin is full of these icons and they keep re-appearing. Over and over… get the ■■■■■■ things off my desktop.

It was mentioned earlier that disabling write permissions on C:/Users/Public/Public Desktop folder will stop this as a workaround until it’s fixed

It’s a hidden folder, so you’d have to show it first

As I’ve said in the object…I just update Cis 10 to the latest version (Windows 10 AU) and I’ve noticed that even if I delete the desktop shortcut, after few minutes it reappears…

Edit: I’ve noticed that it happens when I answer to firewall or hips popup, or when I click on the icon on the upper right of the main screen (Lycia theme) to change between the advanced or base view.
Why Comodo behaves this way?

Just updated Comodo to the latest version. I don’t like the new version for several reasons but lets keep that aside for now.

For some strange reason, the position of the “Comodo Firewall” icon on my desktop seems to have become “fixed/permanent”.

I can move it around the desktop at will, but the moment I click on any function in the Comodo Widget panel (or in the app itself), it goes back to where the installer placed it during the update!

If I delete the icon and make a fresh shortcut, the moment I click on any Comodo function (in either the Widget or the app itself), a NEW, duplicate “Comodo Firewall” icon is created in exactly the place it was present after the update.

If I delete the icon, its automatically created. If I move it, its magically moved back to its initial position. Its like its possessed or something. Very annoying.

Any help appreciated.

It’s a known bug and will be addressed

A workaround for me was to make my own shortcut and place it, then change the properties of the Comodo created one to Read only and Hidden

Known bug. Will be fixed in the next release.

Thanks guys - appreciate your super quick responses!

I just asked the same question. Apparently its a known bug. See this post here -

Thanks, I didn’t check that forum section before posting because I was sure to find it in the bug section
So, I’ll wait for an update to correct this bug. Thanks

Yeah, that should work, but it’s irritating. While I don’t like having desktop icons, I do find them useful when I first install a new app of some sort. It’s a convenient place to have an installer place an icon for me to then easily cut and paste to my preferred location, rather than having to manually navigate to the app’s installation directory, create a new shortcut, and then cut and paste from there. It’s also useful to have desktop icons temporarily when I install several programs for the same task in order to evaluate which one I like the most and want to keep.

Anyway, if this is the best that can be done for now, then so be it, but I hope they push a fix for this in short order, because this is really annoying.

Drake
