Protowall
Protowall is a lightweight program that runs in the background, taking up little CPU and memory, while blocking thousands of bad IP addresses.
HOSTS Manager
The HOSTS Manager is a program to maintain your HOSTS file. You will be able to download directly the HOSTS file maintained at Bluetack, append other HOSTS files to your existing one, replace your HOSTS file by a new one, create a back-up and restore it, add, edit, delete entries and much more… You can use your personal inclusions and exclusions lists. It will not import duplicate and invalid entries. You can also check if your HOSTS file contains invalid domains, thus invalid entries. A must have application.

Yes they are, however I don’t think I was the one who added those, so I have no idea what the links would be, if you can find them and post them I would be happy to add them.
I had added them under the security related. They can be downloaded from www.bluetack.co.uk (a great security related site which hosts and update ipfilter files; peerguardian uses those for example)
Strokeit
StrokeIt is an advanced mouse gesture recognition engine and command processor. StrokeIt can currently recognize more than 80 unique mouse gestures and can be easily trained to recognize many more. For each gesture recognized, StrokeIt can execute a user-defined set of commands within the active application.

M8 free clipboard
Not as powerful than the discontinued M8 multi clipboard, but still very usable. Main thing for me is it preserves file formats. for example i can copy from corel or fireworks and i can go back any time and paste editables shapes or whatever i copied, rather than just a bitmap which is what most other clipboards do (even paid ones). info

i like it bc of its small memory footprint and sound quality is pretty good imho…
Only for today, Tuesday January 23, 2007, System Safety Monitor 2 (normally a paid program) is available free from Giveaway of the Day
The qualifying statement: It has to be downloaded and installed within the timeframe of the giveaway offer (ie, today). It’s a great opportunity for those who would like SSM for free. Today. ;D
1. No free technical support
2. No free upgrades to future versions
3. Strictly non-commercial usage
Still a good offer, if i were interested…
SSM yells too much imo, and does not uninstall properly. And i’m not talking about the folder. A service will stay and cause errors, at least that’s what happened to me.
I still have to format because of programs that don’t uninstall. All i have to get is an external HD to backup files.
Oh, and i’d like to remove my suggestion of SSM free in the collection. Unless somebody wants it there, but in that case put your name there, not mine
I noticed the Giveaway of the day. My quick experience as you should know Kail was a registry key from their “free” software that really put the kabosh on my OS. I won’t download from there any more. Not to mention, it’s NOT free. If you uninstall it, reinstall the OS, even if you back up the registry, it’s gone. To me that’s trialware. Vnunet give REAL free software. You get a key and all. Freeware is supposed to be free for life, you can uninstall it and reinstall at your own will, GAOTD does NOT do this. Comodo is FREE. Just my 2 cents though.
I’m sorry you had a bad experience, but I think that was the software in question rather than GAotD… since you also tried the software from the actual vendor… right?
All
I think, GAotD is OK… obviously since you cannot update or re-install the software then it does have its limitations. But, I believe all you need to do is to pick-and-choose your software carefully… don’t go for security software (IMHO that’s silly), software that has frequent updates, is dependent on updates or unstable. I recently grabbed True Launch Bar (TLB) & Gridinsoft’s Notepad Pro. TLB also survived intact on my system when it was downgraded from W2k Pro to XP Pro. Obviously, if you wipe your registry, then you’ll loose any GAotD-based software.
KCeasy
KCeasy is one of the best filesharing programs.
It connects to the Ares, Gnutella, OpenFT (and with a plugin, at the Fasttrack) networks. It is far better than bearshare, limewire, morpheus, kazaa, imesh and a lot others P2P programs. It is lighter than Shareaza because it can be used also with very slow internet connections as gprs, 33kb, 56kb.
And the best of all is very fast, and it’s free and open source.
Azureus
Azureus is an open source java based torrent client with lot of features. The only thing that I don’t like is that is a bit heavy; especially for pcs with less than 512mb ram.
If you try it rember to install the safepeer and the sudoku plugins. The first is for your protection and the second for having fun during your downloads.
Halite
Another open source torrent client. It is very light in resources and with the time will be a great alternative of Azures and Utorrent.
Emule
I think that most know this one. ;D
ps.Emule Xtreme is a modified version a little faster than the original with lots of extras (and easy to configure).
I don’t know if it is already said but I’m using active security monitor
Nice to see how good you are protected. But, Comodo AV is not recognized by this program.
The firewall from comodo is recognized by this program http://www.download.com/AOL-Active-Security-Monitor/3000-2094_4-10585124.html?tag=tab_pub
My score were 91 before i used comodo av, now it is 64 ;D
I don’t know if this has been added or not but I have used this and forgot to mention it, Media Purveyor is excellent for viewing and some editing. It’s a bit more complicated for beginners as reviews suggest. I think it’s a nice effect editor and such and it’s free.
B-b-b-ut that would mean I have to do all that work , no way, i’m too lazy! I have a library of free programs but will look through to see what’s here or not already. I think i’ve downloaded every free program out there and have run out of options.
