COMODO Internet Security 6.0.264710.2708 Released!

People should learn that it is Defense+, not Defence+.

You could start with CIS Certifications, Test Results & Reviews.

It is a common opinion here that with the automatic sandbox and HIPS many, many, many malwares will be stopped from infecting your machine. To get an idea of the scope. During testing of v5, egemen told us, it was tested by confronting CIS 15,000 malwares of which none of them could infect the system.

That means that signature based solutions are close to not be really needed and as a consequence it is of little consequence which one is being used.

Over the years I have seen a convincing body evidence from tests and personal experience that shows me it is very hard to infect a system protected by CIS. But don’t ask me to fret about what test will show this etc. Just read the forums and look at tests, form your own opinion and decide whether CIS is worth using.

To stay safe you can follow my colleague’s Chiron’s recommendations on how to raise security level to be able to block the latest known threats that could bypass default settings.

No it is Defence. Comodo spells it wrongly. (Google spell check can’t spell it either, it seems)

Sorry if you cannot see that website outside of the UK?

Both are right and since the default English language in CIS is probably based on American English “Defense” seems to be the more correct version to use.

Edit: If you want a governmental page that shows the usage of this: http://www.defense.gov/
Edit 2: See attached picture.

CIS uses US English as default. The main office is in the USA.

Just check the online help and search or words with ‘ior’ and iour. You will find behavior and not behaviour…

Thank you eric for taking the time to reply and it was very clarifying. This is what comodo users like to see.figures and what tests comodo was put under before being released.15.000 malwares is a lot to contend with and its nice that comodo handled it.
Comodo is definately worth using. :-TU

Does anyone know if they done the same for version 6?

Egemen has not filled us in about it when developing v6. But, I cannot imagine Comodo not testing this during development.

If you’re just speaking about antivirus products Avast is better than CAV but CAV works very well within the structure of the full CIS suite. I have seen many people running CIS without the AV and using Avast instead. There are a few conflicts and adjustments that need to be made but it can work. I prefer to use the full package myself.

I do not know about todays version of Avast. But, I can personally tell you that when I had used Avast in the past, it blew! On top of that, since I had started using CIS, I have gotten absolutely zero virus/malware/anything malicious on my system!

Sorry yro, but this is definitely an opinion NOT a fact. If you claim something to be a fact you need to provide evidence or a reference to universally accepted documentation of your assertion. The only way to prove that one security solution is better than another is to test both against all malware under identical conditions. There are many millions of malware items increasing by thousands every day, some of which are not yet known. Unless someone can implement a real-time testing facility that can continuously simulate real-world computer usage against every known malware for each security solution there will never be a way to prove your claim.

There are hundreds of published anti-malware tests and their results vary a lot because they are performed under different conditions using different sets of malware. In my opinion the only way it might be possible to get a realistic anti-malware comparison would be to have a massive and frequently updated online survey documenting infections against anti-malware environments. Unfortunately it would be extremely diffiicult to guarantee the integrity of the results.

Avast is improving a lot dude !

in fact, WHY THA HELL USE AVAST WHEN COMODO ANTIVIRUS AND DEFENCE+ ARE BETTER THEN AVAST/AVG/AVIRAFREE/ETC???

I don’t know about the current free version, but Comodos AV always had less features than Avast.
After looking at the spec I am not even sure if it is proactive (i.e It’s just a scanner). I see no mention of email scanning in the specs and that is very important for me.
So I use Avast Free (just upgraded to V8) and Comodo IS Free in Firewall mode.
I use the auto sandbox in Avast and have turned off the sandbox in Comodo.
Because as a developer I find the Avast sandbox easier to ‘deal with’.

This setup seems to work without any problems for me. If Comodo V6 wont let me turn off the sandbox then that might be a problem?

PS I don’t really care that much about spelling so long as I have some protection on my PCs.

What product do you develop?

I’m an independent, my main work is Embedded systems development (Hench previous questions about getting Comodo to allow Microchips MPLabX/C30 compiler to do its thing).
I also write PC support applications in Delphi for the end products of the embedded stuff, Serial & Ethernet comms handlers and data decoders mostly, and there are a couple of my Public offerings on the web. Main one is a vehicle fuel economy calculator, not had much uptake ( is an understatement)

Thanks!
…and good luck!
:-TU

why do you need email scanning?

Well, I have never gotten anything malicious on my system in the last 13 years no matter which companies’ products I was using. McAfee, Norton, Avast, and Comodo, they have all protected me from the very occasional malware I have encountered.

+1

In todays’ world, email scanning is mostly a placebo to reassure people who are used to having it. It is entirely redundant since all the email providers scan all the mail coming into and leaving their servers and there is also the fact that anything that may get past will be detected in one way or another by CIS when it tries to execute.

???

Is there a new update/build scheduled for soon.
Sure i heard it thru’ the grapevine ;D
