Comodo Ice Dragon Ver 37 Beta is now available

How can I use PepperFlash with Comodo IceDragon?

You can’t. Gecko engine only supports NPAPI.

Sad news… My Dragon says “NPAPI will be unsupported soon” and IceDragon cannot use PPAPI…
So I have to install both.

Thank you for the information NiramX :-TU

when are you going to release final version almost one month as passed since beta release, and now firefox is on version 38.0.5 and stil no final version of ice dragon.

when its ready

Gecko will continue to support NPAPI.

I don’t like the new working style of the address bar autocomplete function. Any way to tweak it?

Let me describe:

Earlier, when I wanted to just search for what I entered and not go to the page that autocomplete points me to, I would just hit “Delete” and the completed part of the text I typed would be deleted. FF 38 still works that way, by the way. However, on CID 37 Beta, autocomplete function selects the entry in the history, and when I hit “Delete”, it deletes that page from history. Unless I click on the address bar again and select the part I want to delete, I have to delete all the related history entries before I can delete what I really want to delete. I don’t think this is the way it was supposed to work. I don’t like accidentally deleting useful URLs from history, and I definitely don’t like the extra clicking. It’s unintuitive and user-unfriendly (I don’t know if such a word exists, but you get the point).

By the way, this is my first post on the forum, and I see below that useful shortcuts work with shift+alt, which is pretty much the standard for changing the input language on Win systems prior to Win 8 with more than one input languages installed. That too needs reconsideration, IMHO. Win 8 brought a Win+Space alternative to that, but Win 8 in general fails too hard to consider for such options.

+1 :-TU

I absolutely agree with you and I feel your pain; one day everything works fine, the next day and so on all my searches are going haywire and I’m losing control left and right of what should be available and waiting for my command. Now, it seems like everyone has to be spoon fed as they have no idea how to use search engines in reality, so the servers think for you-- or at least they try to. I’m a data hunter, so this makes surface searches an even bigger pain in the a**, especially when I’m running multiple searches at once and taking my time to form queries (search terms) for the servers to process. IMHO, I think that a lot of this started happening when search engine technicians for yahoo and google started automating the suggestion system in their sites in an attempt to make searches simpler and more convenient, which they’re not now, and all the idiots out there are more prone to suggestion and can’t think for themselves to formulate search queries. You’d be amazed how random or inaccurate their search terms alone are-- the users and server techs for the search sites have no idea what they’re doing.

I just checked out the IceDragon 37 beta, and I really like it, but there are lots of features that still need improvements. For example, because this is supposed to be a “secure” browser, made by comodo, a security company, with"secure" features, why not implement some sort of authentication feature so that users can truly protect all of their browsing data such as history, cache, passwords (especially), bookmarks, etc. I’m talking full data encryption, as in you can’t even touch the browser or any of it’s files or other information unless you enter the password or use the hardware security token you assign to the browser during or after initial setup.

The encryption should be optional, and for added security, if the user were to enable encryption, after choosing an authentication option, all browser information should be stored in an encrypted container file that can only be written to and read by the the browser itself after the user authenticates their access, and the file would be placed in the browser’s working/program files directory (with the hidden file attribute) rather than the user’s common document files directory; should the user’s document directory be compromised, the program file directory for the browser, and all data in it will be entirely intact, secure, and exportable so that it can still be used by the owner of the browsing data.

To the admins and technicians of Comodo, contact me via PM or e-mail if you want to use this idea. Keep in mind that this is what IceDragon needs in this world of hacking and security flaws.

By the way, what ever happened to the website security checker that was available in IceDragon 26? That was one of the features I absolutely loved.

Other ideas:
IceDragon seriously needs its own built-in firewall, or at least a cloud firewall of some sort. As the internet and endpoint devices become more exploitable, it is highly advisable to add at least an extra layer or two of security by adding a firewall. After all, it’s one thing to have a good antivirus or internet security program, but of all the firewalls I’ve used, Comodo Firewall is absolutely the best end-user network security software that I have ever used. In fact, Comodo Firewall blocked several attacks to my system from Pakistan, Korea, somewhere in the U.S itself, and tons of other attacks from within the region.

One word: LINUX. If you could develop a version of IceDragon for Linux platforms with the above improvements, you’re golden.

Just as a thought on the side, it’d be interesting to see a small portable bootable version of IceDragon just for browsing the web on other systems without actually using the internal HDD (i.e boot the browser from a USB drive). Personally, I’d use tails for that sort of thing, but the UI has so many flaws it’s hardly funny anymore.

When CID latest is going to be released?

According to what I’ve read in other threads, they plan to release a final by the time firefox 41 or maybe 42 is out. However, the icedragon 37 beta looks pretty complete for the most part, so the next final release should be out in a month or two. If you want a more accurate time quote, ask one of the site admins or moderators.

In the Dragon thread Melih referred to version 42, but I’m 99.9% sure he was talking about their Chrome based browsers because his was a direct response to a question about Comodo’s Chrome browsers. A Comodo staff member has said they’ve built their infrastructure up for much faster product releases. In the context of Ice Dragon, which the most recent final, non-beta version was released more than a year and a half ago, I don’t know what that means. Furthermore “next few days” has turned into more than a month and a half. If that is acceptable to you, keep waiting, you might get something; but if you really expect them to live up to their claims, you will likely be disappointed. There are other Gecko based browsers out there. I recommend Pale Moon.

I will try to find out more about the delay and post back if I have any news.

Thanks.
