Feels better knowing that I am not the only one that impatiently suffers during these “release” days. Here in the UK I am usually finishing dinner about the time they finally post the updated program. I am hoping this time might be different since it seems like this release has been ready all week but they are just being cautious with testing. I suppose this is a good idea but…

loll. Yes , I know they are busy and have a lot to do and agree they want to make sure it works well which is a good thing. I don’t know when they in fact post the new version, the administrative gods are probably lauging at us…booming laughter heard throughout Comodo land. To be honest, I am simply anxious as heck.

Well it’s about lunchtime here in Leeds, UK. For some reason the releases don’t seem to happen till I get back home from work. At about 6pm so I’m still learning to be patient. I’d like to have another go at moving away from just ZA and AVG but I have that terrible feeling it’ll be ages before I manage that one. I tried that Ashampoo thing. It’s ok but a little too basic and wierd. Kind of reminds me of the old versions of McAfee that we get for free with our AOL but only slightly better. Sigh… So hard to find a good firewall that won’t cause any problems… Thinking about changing my antivirus as well this afternoon but I don’t have a clue what to change it to. Antivir?

I have been out of control with av and firewall changes lately. Sadly I seem to keep coming back to Outpost for my firewall as I understand it and it works with every AV program I have tried. Comodo is getting close, but last I tried it was a disaster with F-Secure AV and seems touchy with KAV6. If Comodo gets the rest of the stuff right I am willing to be flexible on the AV program.
For AV I have formed some favorites and thought I would blurt it out since it was asked.
If free is the only option:

Favorite is CA EZAntiVirus - not actually free but offering a one year full trial. Boringly simple but just plain works, even at my friends bachelor pad where all sorts of unsavory surfing goes on.

Avira is pretty darn great and has not caused me a single hiccup through all of my frantic tests.
The other free programs, AVG and Avast have either let me down by missing a virus (or many) or have battled one or more firewalls I have used. I know many love these programs… oh well.
On the pay-for side of AV, I too am a fan of the perennial favorites of NOD32 or KAV6. Both are great at detecting and each has it’s strong side. I think KAV6 is a little more comprehensive and I like how often it updates. Unfortunately I often hit glitches with it and end up reverting to NOD32. I don’t think you can go wrong with the NOD. I am also really growing to like F-Secure but the Comodo incompatability is really bringing me down.
Since I have little to do but keep blurting, I will also mention that I have recently been trying F-Prot and DrWeb a lot. I really like how light and compatible these two are but I don’t think they detect as well as the others listed above, not even the freebies.
Anway, is it time for the Comodo release yet…
i sure hope that release comes out soon! i really want to get rid of some of the bugs in this current version of CPF!
