Comodo Dragon ver 19.0 is now available for download

+1

Just because something is built on something does not make the product temporary. Android is built on linux but it won’t be going away any time soon.

On may case using a WiMAX-Direct Connection and WiMAX-WiFi with 150mbps Tx Power, IT WORKS PERFECTLY FINE in FORMULA1.COM up to their LIVE TIMING and ONBOARD Videos! On the other side, COMODO DRAGON dramatically suffers a SLOW browsing using a COMODO DNS either Direct from Comodo Dragon Browser, LAN or Router Setup’s.

Tested on:
2.13gHz CELERON-D Single Processor with 768MB RAM
1.86gHZ Intel Dual Core Processor 2G RAM

Location:

            PHILIPPINES

so dont use the DNS , its only an addon not the main comodo engine core

Updated to CD ver19.0 and now one of my favorite extension (SPEEDbit Video Downloader) is not working (even though it appears on dragon://chrome/extensions/), unlike with the previous versions.

SPEEDbit Video Downloader: (RE-INSTALLED 2x)

Sometimes this kind of prob would be solved when the mentioned extension publisher releases an update (Happens very often with FireFox extensions too).

If you wanna download YT videos, there are other extensions that can do that in the Chrome Store.

Expect a new release to see that go smoothly zoom in and zoom out, I mean when using gestures of touchpad, in other browsers like Opera, IE 9 works well when given zoom in and zoom out using the touchpad gestures. On Dragon works very hard. When I zoom in and zoom out with ctrl + and ctrl - everything works fine, but when using gestures of touchpad is like would zoom at ‘‘1fps, instead of 24 fps’’.

This browser is so fast its scary…

But whats up with the updater wanting to check for updates every so often? I’m not complaining i was able to stop it but that after i checked the do not check for updates icon…

Thanks for a great browser…
turnorburn

edit i should have said in order to stop the updating feature i had to use my firewall to stop it that icon wasn’t cutting it…???

Hahahahaha!!! 88) 88) 88)

Are you serious? If Comodo could really build their own browser, why else do you think they are resorting to using a reskinned version of Chrome like they do, and trying to keep up with latest Chromium releases which is where all the real functional changes and improvements are?

As MarkXS said, “writing an entire modern, speedy, secure browser is so far out of Comodo’s core competency it isn’t even funny”.

That depends if they did not have the right developers, but why take time to start from scratch when they have something to work with?

Well, we almost know for sure about the first part: they don’t have the right developers. Browser development is not Comodo’s core competancy. If it were or they had the right developers, they would build their own browser. But the fact is they can’t or don’t have the time or developers or resources.

Haven’t you seen the less than stellar job CD is doing trying to keep up with Chromium releases with strange issues and regression problems? They are trying to keep up with Chromium where all the real developments are. Do you think Comodo’s doing this by choice? They are doing this out of sheer necessity or else they fall behind every 6 weeks. Do you think the CD developers are happy? They are taxed, tired, and extremely rushed!

This is all because the 90% of CD’s core functionality relies on software they don’t control, and what’s worse, changes/improves every 6 weeks, and CD users know this, and even post here rushing CD to keep up with the latest Chromium. If Comodo had the right developers and resources, they would take the time to start at least with a codebase they could control.

(Of course, CD could control the current Chromium code they have now, and try to do their own further development from that. But that’s the crux; they don’t have the developers or the core competancy.)

well I didn’t come to argue with anyone about what comodo is and isn’t capable of or have people laugh at my opinion like It’s so improbable by people who don’t work for comodo. you guys could be right or comodo might just like the chromium source code to build off of. they could have chose mozilla to build off of but they didn’t so even if they are building off of someone else’s code, it’s not entirely out of necessity. they had to like the code enough to choose it over other source codes out there to build dragon off of. not to mention cis I’m sure is a lot more complex to code rather than a modern browser but I could be wrong. I’m not a dev. or complexity could be determined more by what you know how to code rather than what you are writing code for or a mixture of both idk

FYI all browsers are working off of someone else’s work, chrome is using webkit (developed by KDE then apple), firefox is using geko (same company different engineers), etc.
Comparison of browser engines - Wikipedia all browsers build upon others, that is how they improve, I highly doubt that if anyone tried to build a total scratch engine/browser from nothing they could do is fast. They would all take at least a year if not more to get it working.

If Comodo really wanted to build a browser from scratch they would have reserved the funds and hired the right amount of people for that job.

And, why would you want to reinvent the wheel as languy is pointing at?

Dragon 19.1 is just released based on Chromium core 19.0.1084.52.

Release topic can be found here: https://forums.comodo.com/news-announcements-feedback-cd/comodo-dragon-ver-191-is-now-available-for-download-t84617.0.html .

one chromium will likely never have no script or request policy so there’s 2 great layers of security gone. why reinvent the wheel? some company’s make better wheels so to sleek. we’re talking about comodo who has had inovative breakthroughs in the security world and who has reinvented security software for computers. now other companies are playing catch up with implimenting technology found in cis such as avast with the sandbox which isn’t implemented right in my opinion. why limit yourself to someone else’s designe. building off chromium could be temporary until they get the resources needed to make their own but who knows. it doesn’t really matter comodo is the only one who knows for sure

i agree with you. with the way dragon is currently implemented they are at the mercy of the chromium devs. If the chromium people decide to change somthing that comodo doesnt like comodo has to go through the code and change it. This can be a waste of time and be used more effiecently.

People say why reinvent the wheel cuz comodo can improve it and make it better. Comodo is known for innovation and their browser shouldnt be any different.

Still, as long as the wheel is good enough and can be adjusted with, I guess, relatively basic adaptations then that is an efficient way to go.

I’ll just respectfully agree to disagree.
