CFP 3.0.1.1 Alpha Bug Reports (XP) [Closed]

Had the double clicking problem myself! But the scenario is like this.
After booting the system first time double click the icon, it didnt work! After dat right click-> open; it worked! Closed the FW window and tried to “double click” open! Whola! it’s working! It’s like that all the time!

Also I noted that once you click on the More button to open the other log window then “cpflogvw.exe” comes up in Task Manager and it uses anywhere from 9500K to 10,500K of memory. Doesn’t open on the first window so possibly opening the second log window won’t be used that much once they get the logging squared away.

One other thing I found:

  1. If you double-click on a program icon to open a program and the firewall pops up an alert and then you cancel it on the first pop-up then the attached message box comes up. The (null) space will normally have the location of the .exe file. For some reason this program didn’t.

You can close the error message box and then open the same program again and approve the first firewall pop-up and the program seems to run ok after that.

Wow, that’s a lot of bugs.

You see, this is what happens when you give a release date.

The evil Alpha Apples ride on their spiteful unicorns straight into your server and infect all of your files with their Buggy Flies of DEATH!

I can confirm the SysTray icon issues that have been posted. Also, when opening a new executable and setting it to run as trusted and remember my answer I get the attached pop-up. I can re-run the executable and allow it without setting it as an trusted application and everything works fine.

Long time CFP user here.

I uninstalled the prior version (2.4.x), rebooted.

Installed the CFP3 Alpha, rebooted and was welcomed by a Blue Screen before XP loaded properly. I didn’t even get to the welcome/login screen.

I had to boot into safe mode, uninstall and do a system rollback to get XP back up and running. I reinstalled the older CFP and am back to normal.

Strangely there are no minidump files, bootlog files, or Event Viewer entries for the boot-crashes when CFP3 was installed. Since I can’t produce any log files, I’ll just list the other 3rd party programs/services that launch at bootup:

Nod32 Antivirus
Webroot Spysweeper
Peerguardian2
Nvidia Video Drivers

You are complete right! (:CLP)
Same here.

Creating an image of your C: drive before installing questionable software is always a good idea. I hate reconfiguring software that has to reinstalled.

How can it move COMODO defense+ Alert window to a new position?

Tried 5 sites for leaks and security - all OK! (Using Opera helps, though - doesn’t show the ‘holes’ of other browsers. I have IE as a Blocked App. ).

Peter.

Having read some of the problems with installation not working, I wonder if these are due to the previous version still 'lingering(?).
I closed CFP2, went in to Services and stopped CFP’s, then uninstalled and rebooted.
Closed all open processes and apps (not the essential ones!), then ran TotalUninstall (I always use this, as it digs out the remaining cr*p) to get rid of lots of Reg. entries.
THEN I installed CFP3 and it worked.

As for memory: well, I’ve just put ZA on a neighbour’s PC (sorry - but she would go mad with CFP and is used to ZA) and the difference is amazing. Booting is also a lot quicker with CFP.

Peter.

Yes, that was my first wish - same with accessing the Registry.

If we say ‘No’ the app won’t work; if we say ‘Yes’, what are we agreeing to? CFP must ‘know’ what is being accessd and just has to tell us.

Peter.

Good call Red.

Missed that due to the Zonealarm ref. At the moment, this seems to be working, but will keep posted.

problem here!

I had to “SHUT DOWN” my computer and when I rebooted my adsl connection is trying to connect but wouldnt connect! Thought “Adsl is down yet again…” (Happens once in a while!) But then i tried to exit CPF. Had to “right click → exit” 3 times or so to “actually exit”. And whola connection is up and running and after that started the FW and it’s working smoothly.

This was the first time I “shut down” my computer after installing it. Even after installing when I had to reboot my router was never “off”. So the connection was up all the time until abouve happened.

Did anyone else had the same problem?

regards,
Dam

Scary… Not,… no such thing

Hi guys,

rightclick on the tray icon makes minimized tab appear

no traffic animation yet?

ip adresses appear inverted in the logs

defense+ log empty
time does not appear next to the date
cannot rearrange order through different tabs in the log
primary log window empty sometimes, clicking on more button shows a secondary
windows with logs for the firewall, always empty for HIPS.
duplicated tabs in the log viewer;second range of tabs empty log anyway

terminate connection function is there and doesn’t work

no info about the network adapter on the main page

an app is trying to modify a protected file or directory??? doesn’t tell which one!
make alerts windows movable please!!! (problem with alt-tab in games when resolution different from desktop)
alerts should appear on top of full screen apps

MSN not starting or starting with no alert
(app got automatically trusted)
when not starting, message from Windows Repair is
that Gateway ADSL is OFF!!! (it actually is not off, but turning off the firewall
solved the issue)

XP Windows Desktop Search crashed
(hoping Vista Indexing won’t)

Must rightclick 2 or 3 times to exit the firewall

auto-refresh in dialog boxes too slow

after uninstall from 2.4, no detection of 3.0 in Windows security Center. same happened before between two betas of 2.4

having to reenter the password for each setting again really upsetting

How do you define a new Trusted Zone, once the zone is created?

After that I had an issue with Windows Live Messenger refusing to sign me in s long as CFP 3 was on, + graphic bugs in the firewall interface. So I decided to uninstall until a more stable version is released. Then began the problems: uninstalling through add/remove prog just removes the entry, but not the program! Then I rebooted, and before login: BLUE SCREEN!!!

STOP C000021A {Fatal System Error}
The Session manager Initialization System process terminated unexpectedly with a status of
0x00000022 (0x00000000 0x00000000)
The system has been shut down

and no minidump file, nothing in the event viewer either!!!

Then went into Safe Mode, uninstalled CPF 3 from the uninstall shortcut in the Start Menu. rebooted, everything was fine again. Goin’ back to 2.4 in the meantime.

Duh forget My last post. I missed some others users previous posts before posting and was half asleep. Anyway, there is no alerts at all for Antivir antivirus. Not sure if anyone posted about that yet.

OK I only talked about the bugs in my previous post, I’m the negative kind (lol, I’m French). Now this is what I wrote yesterday, shortly after I tried the program for the first time:

"in answer to people in the 3.0 release date topic, and to the dev team, here and now:

HEY HEY PEOPLE WAKE UP! there is and there will be much more to say about 3.0 than “I’m a bit disappointed” or “what? not yet for Vista”. I belong to those who were also expecting a finally Vista compatible version. But I dual-boot with XP and I can wait, I can really wait, and in the meantime I’m quite happy to have the opportunity to test this fantastic piece of software under Windows XP.
Yes, I used the word fantastic. I’ve been waiting for 3.0 for a while now and I never thought that it would be so advanced. IT IS INCREDIBLY ADVANCED!
First I want to mention the UI. THE UI DOES MATTER!!! And in the case of 3.0 it is absolutely beautiful, very Vista oriented, very elegant, great job guys! No doubt the next alpha or beta version working with Vista will be here soon. Doesn’t matter if it’s tomorrow or in 2 weeks, the software is there, and it goes far beyond anything people like me and others who were testing 2.4 a couple of months ago could ever expect. I remember Melih saying “You’ll see, you’ll be amazed” or something equivalent. Well I am absolutely amazed. The interface is new in every way. The firewall section, if still using a couple of features from previous versions, good ones, brings this program to a totally new dimension. Not to mention the HIPS section, but guys, I’ve only been using the software for half an hour and I cannot yet go into details. But don’t worry I will.

sincerely, thanks to everyone in the dev team,
                             best regards.

ps. here we go: right-clicking the tray icon makes the minimized tab appear in the taskbar, minor bug.
hope the tray icon animation will be back soon…
will post later when I’ve seen more, have already allowed Firefox to use my keyboard! (lol)"

OK this software might have major bugs at the moment, but it’s got an incredible potential. And Melih was honest enough to warn us in his post, in his explanations about the “alpha” considerations. Once again what I’ve seen shows an incredible amount of work that has already been done to produce this first release. I’ve used Comodo Firewall for a while now and it’s harder than ever to understand how such a program can be free. My rating, and I’m not kidding, would be about 1000 USD if that new version of CFP was not, free. CFP 3.0 is like bringing both Coreforce Firewall and System Safety Monitor to a human dimension. The dev team from Comodo couldn’t do a better job.

link to my blog:

Vista considerations:

I really hope that at least these 2 factors will be taken into account in the development of the software and it’s HIPS (Def+) when used in Vista:

1 UAC (User Account Control) will that have to be turned off?

2 the Indexing System: here no compromise. It’s one of Vista’s major features and it would be unacceptable to have to turn it off (YES IT IS POSSIBLE TO TURN IT OFF, in the services, called Windows Desktop Search, same software as the one downloadable for XP) Just in Vista there’s no Snooze function like in XP. Anyway people don’t forget that if the indexing crashes, due to HIPS for instance, the whole database is deleted and must be rebuilt, this can take hours. Such a crash happened to me yesterday in XP , short after I installed CFP 3.0 alpha. OK the rebuilding of the database can be done with a process priority set to low, but still, it’s a big loss of time.

Feedback: (i know this is alpha, but i comment as it were final)

1- Firewall tab, i have to click links to view the rules; i think it would be better to have 2 tabs inside the firewall one (above tasks etc.) for Network rules and Application rules. I don’t like to view it in another window; when i click firewall, i want to see NetMon by default.

2- I didn’t see the option not to install Defense+ ; alternatively, if i turn it off, will the hooks go away?

3- more positive note, i think the pop-ups are informative; i need more time to give more positive feedback, i liked it too much, but didn’t keep it long as i didn’t have internet accesss; i’ll install it in VM.

4- i still have the option to receive warnings from Comodo’s certified apps, yes?

5- very light, considering what it’s doing, congratulations

I’ll be back!
