Edit:
* CPU: 32 bit dual-core Intel E6600
* Operating System information: Windows Vista Ultimate SP1
* Actively-running security and utility applications: CIS version .432, CMF, BOClean, SypwareBlaster, Super AntiSpyware, MalwareBytes Antimalware
* Specific symptoms of the bug: This bug seems to only affect random Vista machines. CIS version .432 virus definition updates work both automatically and manually on some computers, but not on others. Detailed description of the problem is contained in the paragraphs below. This is a problem unique to CIS version .432.
* Specific steps you have taken to try to resolve it: Uninstalled .432 and ran CRC. Reinstalled and still had the same problem. Tried uninstalling just the Antivirus, running CRC, reinstalled and still had the same problem. Tried installing .432 in Safe Mode and then rebooting, but problem still existed. Finally reverted back to CIS version .424. Virus definitions update just fine, both automatically and manually. I have read that people who reverted back to .427 also had no problems getting virus definition updates, automatically or manually.
* Brief description of your Defense+ and Firewall+ mode: Defense+ set to Clean PC Mode, Firewall set to Safe Mode. Plus mention if you modified any setting in ADVANCED section of D+ and F+: Defense+ Predefined Security Policies Protection Settings all changed to ‘Yes’, except for Windows/WinEvent Hooks in Windows System Applications and Isolated Applications set to ‘No’.

Comodo Internet Security 3.5.55810.432 not updating virus definitions is an interesting problem. We have two Vista Ultimate SP1 32-bit Intel dual-core E6600 desktops that run this latest version of CIS. One of them will update virus definitions automatically or manually, and the other one will not update virus definitions either way. Both of them are running CMF, BOClean, SpywareBlaster, Super AntiSpyware, and MalwareBytes Antimalware. We have an older Windows XP SP3 notebook that runs CIS .432 and virus definitions update on it automatically or manually.
I uninstalled CIS .432 on the machine that CIS would not update the virus database on. I then installed CIS .424 and after reboot, automatic or manual virus definition updates worked just fine. I know that some people reverted back to the CIS .427 version, but I didn’t have that version saved on my computer. Interestingly enough, when I tried to download that version from the link on the Comodo Forums website, it said that I was downloading and saving the .427 file, but when I installed it, it was actually the .432 version. When I checked the size of the CIS .427 file that I had downloaded, it was exactly the same KB size as the .432 file, (27,206,408 bytes), not the 25,830,664 bytes reported on the download link. I couldn’t find another link to the real .427 version, so I just installed the .424 version. I am currently running the CIS .424 version on this computer until the issued is resolved.
Now to the interesting part. After installation and reboot, I updated the virus definitions manually without a problem, to make them current at 605. Then I updated the CIS program from version .424 to .432. After updating the program to .432, but BEFORE rebooting the computer, I checked to see if the manual virus update would work. It worked just fine and gave me the message that ‘The virus signature database is up-to-date’, so I then went ahead and rebooted the computer. AFTER rebooting the computer, I checked to see if the manual virus update function would still work. It would not. Instead of the popup saying that 'The virus signature database is up-to-date", I immediately got the popup that said something to the effect that the update had failed. Based on the experiments that I did with uninstalling the CIS .432 program and reinstalling first the .432 program and then installing and updating the .424 program, I have concluded that this problem that occurs on select computers running the .432 version of CIS happens only after rebooting the machine after installation of the CIS .432 program. I don’t have any idea exactly what occurs after reboot that causes this to happen, but this is definitely WHEN it occurs.
It only occurs with the .432 version of the program, so something was changed from the .424 and .427 versions that causes this to happen on some computers. I know that quite a few problems were addressed with the .432 version, but this version definitely caused one additional problem for some people - the virus database not updating automatically or manually. I don’t know if the devs can replicate this problem or not, since it doesn’t occur on every machine that the CIS version .432 is installed on. But it occurred on 1 out of 2 of the desktops we own that are configured exactly alike, so hopefully it can be replicated. I really like the CIS program that Comodo has worked so ■■■■■■■ and gives out for free so that the public can have good security on their computers, but not being able to update the virus database is a severe security threat that Comodo needs to fix, because this is the first version of CIS that has had this problem.
