Oh well - I have this problem too. I guess it is back to zonealarm and avast for me. Sigh.
Ok this is VERY weird. I’m sitting here surfing the web and Windows defender pops up and says my AV is not up to date again. I check Commodo and sure enough I’m getting the failed to update error again.
So something is clicking off in Commodo to trigger Windows Defender or Windows Defender is clicking off Comodo’s ability to update. Something def aint rite!
Be interesting to see if the ones that are unable to update have Windows Defender on Vista.
Vista x64 SP1 on HP DV7 here
uninstalled .432 & re-installed .427 works fine! thanks larlyles! will have to wait for next cis update, i have a sneaking suspicion too that this is a vista problem…
have defender running on the laptop (vista x32 sp1) & pc (xp x32 sp3)
no prob’s to report…
Thank you CGPMaster, My PC OS 32bit Vista. since i upgrade my CIS last week, everytime i open my PC it shows the automatic updates not working even if i do manually. using CIS with firewall ,antivirus and D+
+1
I think you guys need to provide better support.Even i cant update my virus signature database using latest version of CIS.
Reinstallation doesn’t solve the problem.
Can some mod/admin report this to a developer so he/she can check and/or correct this issue ASAP as malware is evolving/emerging every day!!!
Sorry for too many "/"s!
Why arent updates working for me?
it says “Failed to update virus signature database.
Please check your internet connection and try again later.”
i saw other threads and posts with same issue but nobody seems to be reporting this to some developer!
I love comodo and think that it is an excellent product with no match in firewall and HIPS technology . i even abandoned my zonealarm and outpost for it. However, the support isnt that great.
But , nevertheless i love COMODO
I’ll try my best to help you
Few Questions:
Do you have any registry Cleaners?
Do you have any other security product installed on your machine?
Few Quick Ideas:
1.
Run The Diagnostics (Open CIS > Misc > Diagnostics
Any Errors Found If So Restart Machine
Uninstall > Turn Off Machine > Turn On Machine > Run CRC(Comodo’s Registry Cleaner) > Download The Latest Installer ( Free Firewall - Download the Best Firewall Protection and Anti-Virus Scan Software from Comodo ) > Install

Where can one find the .247 or .244 version? I can’t seem to find older versions to download. Any help is appreciated. I love Comodo but scared not to have virus updates.
Version .427 is supposed to be downloadable here:
http://download.comodo.com/cis/download/setups/CIS_Setup_3.5.54375.427_XP_Vista_x32.exe
But when I downloaded and saved the file, it was named .427, but apparently it was not, because when I installed it, CIS showed that version .432 was installed. Also, the file size is exactly the same as verision .432. So, for whatever reason, it is not version .427. I don’t know where to obtain the original version .427, since this is the download link that was originally posted when .427 was released. The only thing that I can think of is that the download file that this link leads to was inadvertently replaced with the version.432 file.
I was able to download, save and install the CIS version .424 file from here:
http://download.comodo.com/cis/download/setups/CIS_Setup_3.5.53896.424_XP_Vista_x32.exe
Virus updates, both automatic and manual, work fine in this version.
i, as well as others, got this message after first installing CIS, but i don’t know if it is still a common problem. i haven’t had that message in a while. it was on COMODO’s end and i guess they got it working, but some people are still getting it.
???
There is already a (merged) topic about this: https://forums.comodo.com/empty-t29013.0.html;topicseen . Please see if you find a solution there.
Misplaced Childhood,
I finally tried your suggestion after trying just about everything else that I could think of first. After installing CIS .432 and rebooting, I went to Control Panel → Administrative Tools → Services and changed the Comodo Internet Security Helper Service to my login account. When editing the service, I didn’t find anything named Start Session. Iin Properties for the CIS Helper Service there were four tabs, one of which was labeled Log On. I went to this tab and had the option to change from Local System Account to This Account, which I had to browse for to locate. After rebooting, CIS version .432 was able to manually update virus definitions from 547 all the way up to the current 607. Thank you for your input to solve this problem.
I have another computer configured exactly like the one I was having the CIS .432 virus definition update problem on. It updates the virus definitions just fine and the CIS Helper Service is set to the Local System Account, which must be the default setting. This problem seems to affect some, but not all, Vista computers. Something has to be going on with CIS .432 that causes some CIS Helper Services to have to be changed to the login account, while others update virus definitions just fine with the CIS Helper Services set to Local System Account. Maybe the devs can determine what in CIS .432 is causing this, because this problem did not exist in CIS .424 or .427.
Antivirus database is not updating with the message “Failed to update the virus database. Please check your internet connection and try later.”
Internet connection is ok. able to access internet and make this post. This has occurred a few days back. update went through after a day or two.
Is the update server down?
Many people including me having same problem. Yet, noone is bothered…

I did this solution and I was able to update the virus definition too.Go to Control Panel → Admin tools → Services
Search for “COMODO Internet Security Helper Service” and edit properties.
In Start Sesion change the “Local System” option to your loggin account.
Apply → Accept → Restart your system.
Thats All…I was tryng with different options:
With Local System option: I wasn’t able to update the virus definition.
With Local Service Account: Error Code 0x800705aa - insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.
With my Loggin Account: Success, I was able to update.I don’t know why the Local System option doesn’t update and the Loggin Account does.
This solution was originally posted by tcpism on November 19, 2008, 02:24:30 PM, but didn’t give adequate details about how to change the service account to the login account, for anyone who wasn’t familiar with what that referred to.

Thank you larlyles, workaround suggested by you worked. It is strange that with default settings of the service the update works sometimes and does not work other times. In short, the behaviour is not consistent.
I hope this will be rectified in next version of CIS.
The same problem is reported in some more threads. Forum search did not bring up those.
Could you tell your CIS version and Anti-virus database version please.
Have you installed current version of CIS from scratch or have you updated to it from some previous version.
Hi, a new forum member here. I am having the same problem on my Vista machine. Updating was fine until a week ago when it stopped updating. I have tried running diagnostics and no problem. I have uninstalled it, run registry cleaner and reinstalled but still no updating. I am disappointed as I like Comodo and have been waiting a long time for this new version. I am thinking of uninstalling and just running the firewall.
Rich
I am having the exact same problem. It is a complete fresh install of Comodo Internet Security (no other versions have been installed before). The anti virus just won’t update. It gives the error “Failed to update the virus signature database. Please check your internet connection and try again later”.
I have a Vista 64bit PC wired to my router that has no problems updating. But my Vista 32bit laptop which is connected wirelessly just won’t update. Everything else on the laptop works fine.
I have tried the suggestion above but it doesn’t work.
I am a new user with Comodo, after ditching AVG and Zone Alarm. I understand these products are free but whats the point if they don’t work properly. I have read many posts with the exact same problem but with no resolution. I am tempted to try another app, but I am trying to like Comodo.
Please try and fix this obvious bug.
