BOClean to be discontinued ?

3FR1,

Currently people here are discussing the matter. There are opinions and suggestions.

Statements like yours is not constructive. There are no arguments and basically no thoughts in your post…

There is no need to call anybody “clowns” and other names.
Even being frustrated it is possible to express emotions differently.

Thanks

Hi 3FR1
I realise you’re upset at the announcement but please try to avoid personal insults towards Comodo staff. :P0l

Awesome that they want to add BOClean into CIS but to make it integrated w/ CAV should be an option, kinda like how we choose to use Firewall, CAV, or both. I love CIS Firewall but I like AntiVir atm cause i’ve used it for so long, but also love BOClean. Kinda feels like when they pushed Vista on XP users >_< and that didn’t turn out too well.

I’m upset to hear that they plan on shutting down the standalone, but I guess they have a good cause. Hopefully they will make it like CMF is in CIS so that you can check that option to turn it on, incase you want to stick with your current AV and still get the benefits of BOClean. But, who knows what’s gonna happen, only time will tell.

:ilovecomodo: Thanks for keeping all these products free and up-to-date

I have been using Comodo for years. CPF, CMF, BOClean, CSE. All for free. I never felt the need to register untill today. I was that much happy that I never had the need to ask anything.

If it happens that Comodo developers force us to have CAV if we want to experience the benefits of BOClean, well, the day they accomplish it will be a very sad day. Catastrophic day. No doubt about it. As many users already pointed out before me, that would partially kill Comodo. As many of us (me included) simply do NOT want to use CAV yet.

Since it’s obvious that the developers are ignoring this thread, I can only assume that the worst will happen. BOClean will be unavailable to those who do not want to install CAV.

Hi Benjamin X, welcome to the forum

First I want to thank you for your thoughts, because I feel defenately the same as you. But I can assure you Comodo developers are not ignoring this thread. As the developer of BOClean and an employee of Comodo I can understand Kevin doesn’t react here, but I am sure both Melih and Kevin are following this thread

Oh…I have a question:

You seem to be very “involved” with BOClean…did you work for Kevin once?

No, BOClean was recommended to me by a friend years ago, but I never bought it :-[ But when Kevin came to Comodo I start using BOClean and recommending it, and I got into contact with Kevin and he learned me a lot about it

I think the question was directed towards Benjamin X , Red.

I don’t think so, otherwise Benjamin X would have contacted Kevin

Thanks for the laugh. Funniest thing I’ve read on the net all week. Catastrophic day? Let’s hope you never have to face real catastrophe in your life… you won’t know what to call it! ;D Cheer up, man. It’s software, and software only.

If you are talking about my question, it was directed toward Rednose.

Thanks. (Btw, it’s “taught” not “learned”. (:TNG))

Like when my brother ate my favorite pet worm?

Live when my brother ate my favorite pet worm?

That must have been traumatic for you, Jeremy, how did you cope?

Sarcasm only partially intentional (:TNG)

I don’t see why is it wrong to see this issue as the potential catastrophe? BOClean was a stand-alone application. If they merge it with CIS, I’m sure most users can swallow it. But if they merge it with CAV it would be catastrophic. Comodo Firewall and Comodo Antivirus can’t be compared.

So, I hope it will be possible to have BOClean without installing CAV.

I cried for two weeks. :‘( :’( (And I converted my brother’s bed into a worm habitat :a0)

It might be a sad day for some, but not a catastrophe. 88)

I never used BOClean, so I don’t care one snot. :stuck_out_tongue: (Except that it wouldn’t bloat CIS)

Hi to all,
I haven’t never been “forum active” but I’ve been a BOClean steady user for a very long time.
Sad to say that this will change in the near future.
There is absolutely no way someone will convince me to install and use CAV just because it now comes with BOC’s signatures.
But I must confess that if Devs are choosing that option it’s because there is no way out for BOC to remain actively developed/updated as a standalone security app.
I feel sad but, although I don’t have the slightest idea of which FREE on-access spy/malware scanner to use when BOC dies, but I guess I’ll figure something out.
Avast! is not my favorite AV though it comes with spy/malware scanner.
I guess I’ll have to start paying for SuperAntiSpyware Pro which I’ve been using the Free version for a long time in on-demand scans only…
Life ain’t perfect.
Cheers

I’m sure Jeremy’s brother can swallow it along with his pet worm.

There’s always the option of Threatfire, not a traditional scanner but freeware real time spyware scanners are thin on the ground.Hazardshield is another one but updates aren’t very frequent. The upcoming new version of Avira free will include spyware protection however.

Thnx for the support m8, but I doubt if BOClean will stay as a stand alone :-\

As far as I understand, maybe there will be an install option in CIS instead of absorbing it into the AV, but I don’t have the details. We just have to wait …

Hi Triple Helix,

That’s the one!
I was posting in support of standalone BOC and saying that it is possible from programmer’s point of view to implement it the way that it can be part of AV as well. There are few posts here and in another thread regarding this like in (Reply #46).
But then I yesterday I was thinking that I did see some post in the past from Comodo team regarding the matter
I couldn’t find it yesterday and I was going for the search today … and here we go! you pointed to the statement

… of course you will always have the ability to have BOC on its own…
You a saved my time… and thanks for that as well
…and as Rednose said : “We just have to wait …” Let’s hope we are waiting for good news.
Finally, replying to “catastrophic” consequences – sure that is exaggeration indeed – for those who are not going to use CAV but stay with other AV (at least for a while) there are few very strong anti-malware alternatives, which are compatible with Defense+ and their AV and can work together with excellent Comodo Firewall

Cheers!
