(:LGH) LOL ! Yeah you’re right. When I see a pretty girl - I can’t control myself, she’s got to be mine. :SMLR And since I’m an Emperor - I always get them (:TNG)
And you are still doing XP with plastic operations (:LGH)
P.S. The real thing - XP is good (and better than Vista in speed and everything), but I have a good PC with 4 GB RAM and I’m not a sweared gamer like Vettetech. And like Leoni ( :■■■■ (:WIN)) and Soya I enjoy aesthetics.
Wrong. I disabled Windows theme service because the 2 default themes are ■■■■ ugly regardless of how much tweaking I do (aside from a patched uxtheme.dll). However, I’m back to WindowBlinds now that it’s compatible with CFP 3.
Let’s make this the last a(n)esthetics post in here, otherwise I’ll move us to the drunken thread or somewhere else.
Now I’ve finished the new XP SP3 ISO file! I hope it’ll work out, I used pretty much the same configuration as before (which resulted in printing problems - I hope it’s resolved). I’ve also added drivers for sound and screen. All this, and the contents of SP3, still keeps the ISO at only 214 MB - amazing!
I will check back later (when the OS is installed) and share the session if I consider that as a potential common interest of this thread.
Everything is reinstalled and configured (except for the toolbars in OpenOffice.org). Works like a dream. Thanks to a new (for me) setting in nLite, I’ve saved a lot of disk space: in the last menu of nLite, I chose not to keep duplicate files. As a result (and thanks to some manual cleaning), my whole Windows directory on C: is only 531 MB! Including SP3! I’m very excited about this. And if clearing the Inf folder, I’ll save another 20 MB.
Now LA’s a happy Windows XP SP3 nLite user… except for a minor USB problem, when inserting the first USB stick I had to put in the XP CD. However it was not required after that, when I inserted two other USB sticks. Now I can only hope that everything works out (without the XP CD) if a friend shows up with a new USB stick.
I’ve always been avoiding such options in any program due to fear of removing important files. Can you illustrate an example of what this does exactly?
FYI, I already fixed that error long ago by editing the file on one character (I just don’t remember what it was nor do I have the incentive to search the forum at the moment (:TNG))
The last time I encountered a file with a missing letter extension is either through Recuva (trying to recover deleted files) or from a CD.
PS: I noticed you couldn’t handle IE7 anymore. Good job.
But I’m even more glad with this nLite setup (except for the potential USB problem but it seems to work), not counting the pagefile.sys I could have a C: partition of 1.5 GB. ;D
Ah yes, forgot to tell you: once again you were right. There is no need for IE7, it’s cool to keep IE6 when it’s a choice of awareness (not else). !ot!
My original advice for you still stands: “Please throw your computer out the window!” Just the thought of deleting pagefile.sys could wreck your computer. Does nLite even have the option to control this file?
Well I won’t throw out Windows, so maybe I’ll follow your advice and do it the other way around. :-TU
I doubt there is such an option in nLite. Of course I could set Windows to put pagefile.sys on another partition, but there’s nothing to be gained from that, as far as I know. Wait, there is one thing: the feeling of a 1.5 GB C: partition.
Anyway did the first nlite ISO,created it on a seperate hard drive and burnt it to cd(~380 mb) question is do i now just set the bios to boot from cd/dvd and insert the new disk.As this is my first go i was a bit on the cautious side with regards to removing stuff.
Should i reformat both drives, does it still do the reformat?
You can have 2 XP’s on separate partitions. nLited XP still does the reformat.
Keep experimenting. I’m sure, that later on you’ll remove everything or almost everything of M$ bloatware
