Best/Recommended nLite Configurations

yeah, thought that it had to do with something crucial to the new system so i didn’t play with it. As for illustrator and the settings mentioned above ( by the way, thank you for answering so quickly ), i am setting up the latest version of nlited xp on vmware and we’ll see…

The only thing that’s good from DFX is Fidelity and sometimes the Dynamic Boost.

Anywayback to that problem. I found the solution just now in a Portuguese forum:
http://linhadefensiva.uol.com.br/forum/index.php?showtopic=35016

I simply added a semi-colon in front of

nLite = ocgen.dll,OcEntry,nLite.inf,HIDE,7

in the sysoc.inf file and it worked! I understood that site correctly, nlite.inf might not even have anything to do with nLite :-\

I have removed nlite function via windows components but it seems it stands to apply some tweaks (according to the description ). So i leave it running  Now, illustrator seems to have problems with some of the updates / hotfixes. I tried a setup on vmware which hadn’t any of the updates and it started working ( although i had removed internet explorer’s core and it gave me an error message because of unavailability of html viewer or something like that ). Do you have any suggestions?

Stick with Opera or Firefox

(I’m glad I didn’t remove IE for potential problems like that phew!)

Actualy, i disabled even i.e.'s core and there is no problem with illustrator, as long as no updates and hotfixes are applied. So, i will try to install each update separately in order to track the one that causes the problem

Here’s an interesting link:

too bad they don’t seem to support x64 yet. Looks also like you’ll need a DVD burner, but you won’t worry about drivers any more.
If someone will /has try(ied) this combined with nLite, pls share if it works.

Later this year I won’t be permitted to use my XP Pro, full retail version (as I won’t be a student anymore). I’m thinking of using the recovery CD:s to get back my XP Home, ■■■■■■ OEM, bloated with software. Now of course, it’s not possible to nLite this installation. But, I’ve heard there’s a method of extracting your very own Windows CD from the i386 folder. And the serial number can be found on a label underneath the machine (but it’s not the same number as when I extracted the CD key from the XP Home OEM, long ago ???).

I just hope this will work, and that I will be able to make an nLite version of this XP Home OEM CD.

What Windows versions do you other guys use to make you nLite installations? Have you actually bought retail versions like the one I use now for free, or have you made your own Windows CD:s from OEM installations, like I will have to do later this year?

Answer:

The alternative key on the machine you were talkin about should and probably will work, if not yet having been pirated by an evil shop visitor…

of course nlite will also work

Windoze is shit
still, xp is better and more secure (not only because of being more configurable) than vista
so don’t ever “upgrade”,
downgrade (whatever that means) inststead

cheers

Thanks REBOL. (the machine came in a sealed box so no one could have seen the label… :a0)

My latest nLite CD has turned out to cause problems with printer drivers, I can’t get PDF printers to work. :frowning:

Guess I’ll have to revert to an older nLite CD (which was very fine, just contained a few more MB than this one). That’s alright, I just wish I didn’t spend 5 hours on setting up this Windows in a perfect manner, and then discovering that PDF printing is impossible…

(:AGY)

Well the final size of all files on C: satisfies me a lot, it’s around 1.8 GB, including the full range of programs that I use. Page file is still 1.7 GB => all occupied space on C: is only 3.5 GB. :-TU

LA

Hi LA,
Describe what you’re experiencing – is your print spooler service running? Have the PDF printers created the ports properly?
PS. I’ve just reinstalled XP today from an older nLited version I’ve made – and I was surprised that the default user I was using was a limited account. Check also admin rights.

Yes, printer spooler is (was) running fine. I don’t know how the ports thing work, I just know that I closed some ports with the program (WWDC) we discussed in my other thread. About admin rights, that has never been the problem. :-\ Any idea? It couldn’t be the WWDC closing ports thing, right?

I probably removed something essential with nLite, but I really can’t think of anything obvious. Now my installation of XP works fine, thanks to an older nLite CD, the very CD that set up my system the last time - before I attempted to make XP even lighter. I won’t install nLite again (to check what could possibly have caused this) until SP3 arrives, since I don’t want to bloat my system with .NET!

Thanks,
LA

Nope, WWDC has nothing to do with it; but it’s a pity about your 5 hours, not to benefit from it.
You could see what you’ve removed – it’s an option – when right click on “My computer”-properties. It would have helped to access the list of removed features, an to post it here, maybe someone could identify what’s missing.
If now everything works fine, go to one of your PDF printers, properties, ports – you’ll see each is creating it’s own port.
Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

Ah, now I see how it works with the printer ports. I could do what you suggested. Thanks gaby for any attempt to help, that’s the important thing.

Here’s the latest nLite setup, which most likely caused printing not to work.

Browsing through your list:
Spooler, 4 means disabled. Sorry LA, you can check this in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services
so you can use your disk, after all.

Oh, I wonder why it looked like that. Gotta check the services settings in nLite.

Thanks,
LA

Still waiting for a new challenge. I just don’t have any more tweaking to do right now. I’ve reached perfection, so I need something like SP3, to do some new setups & tweaks.

:THNK

LA

Congrats then, brother!

(:LOV)

:■■■■

The bajuvarian dwarf.

Did that with Vista  Waiting for Windows 7 or something ;D

Happy to see you did it with Vista (now isn’t she a beautiful thangie?), still, I’ll cop(ulat)e with XP for some more time, I think it’s not only me who does so.

Now, come on… you really did it with VISTA?
(You must’ve been seduced by her shiny body?)

Cheers
