Actually, it not. The shortest path to something firewall/application rules under version 6 is 3 clicks and that’s only by creating short-cuts on either the task bar. If the awful widget thing is used and open it’s 2 clicks. In version 5 it’s 2 clicks (the UI remembers where it was closed). If I don’t create short-cuts under version 6 it’s 5 clicks and version 5 it’s 3.
for me it was like the custom settings easier to access certain functions.
what has changed is the interface and the "strangeness with the new", the interaction remains the same.
Custom settings (short-cuts) are great, however, if it been designed with usability in mind from the beginning, there wouldn’t be any need.
The summary page is well missed. At least it is from where I sit . To know what’s going on I have to dig through the log files ? What’s that all about .
The Drop Box on the dashboard is overkill and a waste of real estate . There is already a context menu option for this. That area could be used to restore the summary information.
The biggest issue for me is the loss of the sandbox control as it was and the active connections pane missing under the firewall tab. Having to install KillSwitch and then having to use the widget just to see if something is running in the sandbox is just perplexing. Why ?
All anyone can do is give an opinion and hope someone (the dev’s) are listening. 88)
You’ve heard the saying " turn a pigs ear into a silk purse" . I’m afraid it’s quite the opposite here.
Color the GUI bright green and paint flowers on it . I don’t care. Just bring back access to the features and the functionality of v5.
My mom has a 3 PC license to NIS and only 2 PC’s . Likewise the same with my sister and KIS. They both offered me the extra license. I said no. I’ve been using Comodo for a long time and want to keep it that way.
Sell me the version 5 UI exactly as it was as an upgrade. With the same responsiveness as v6 on windows 8. Where do I sign up ?
I’m keeping v5.12 on my windows 7 laptop. The problem is v5.12 is very slow to load (15 to 20 seconds) on windows 8 making me think it’s not fully supported. Version 6 loads instantly on Windows 8 and I have a lot of firewall and custom defense rules.
At the end of the day your taking away many of the things that made CIS so great.
Just my Opinion, and a opinion shared by many others from what I’ve seen.
No offense to anyone. I’m sure many people worked very ■■■■■■■ Version 6.
So I’m back to v.5 too. I couldn’t agree more with the sAyer post above, you have to at least brig ALL THE FUNCTIONALITY of v5 to V6. Also I don’t like the new menu system and I see it as unnecessary, too bad that you made a from scratch effort to make things more difficult to find and use. I appreciate the effort on other regards as better detection, protection and speed.
Question: BOClean was merged into D+, so it was removed in CIS 6? or is HIPS? the new name for it? can anyone clarify?
I have a few suggestions that I think should be implemented for the overall improvement of CIS 6:
If the FW and D+ active connections/processes have been improved and merged into KillSwitch I have not objections since I wanted to have both on the same page BUT, I want them in a single click and to be part of CIS 6, I see no reason why is not and I was surprised wasn’t built-in.
Functionality lost: I can’t no longer find any program by simply start tying its path as V5 has it, on the rules of FW & D+
I’d like columns to be auto-resize-able as an option setting on the general configuration, but column widths to be remembered so the auto-resize on columns have a context menu entry with the option: remember width.
I’d like column headers to be sortable. On the FW side: first click, sort connections within the application, second click would make a sort with all connections and the third click will return to the previous unsorted or the default showing the connections as they are created.
Functionality lost: Summary screen, don’t give me any explanations, just put it back.
HIPS should enabled by default, is a important security feature that needs to be protecting the system, otherwise CIS 6 it won’t be as effective as in the past.
Functionality lost: ‘Stealhth Ports’ doesn’t work as good as in v.5, it won’t create the rules it used to for different user defined network zones and it won’t indicate if it’s active or not when selected from the 2 options it shows.
I’d appreciate that Event Viewer could be as real-time as the active network & process monitor, and of course remembering column auto-resize, column header sortable, and would be great if you could make a merge of the FW & D+ Event viewers like on KillSwitch.
Make possible to identify who starts the several copies of ‘svchost.exe’, this has been asked like 2 years ago, is important to identify malware trying to camouflage through this service host.
The speed indicators on the ‘Active Connections’ window need to indicate in colors and in bold which connections are active or semi-active; I suggest a 7 color scale for that. Also make it clear when new connections are created.
I totally disagree. The annoying HIPS alerts were the main reason why I left Comodo 2 years ago and I wouldn’t be back if it was still working that way. If you have all unknown and potentially dangerous things being isolated where they can’t do any harm, why in the world would you need or want an annoying system that alerts you to everything a program does whether it’s safe or not? I actually see no reason for the HIPS component to even still exist.
If you don’t want D+ or FW alerts, that was easily done in V 5. You had just to enable “Do not show popup alert”. Your desires were all fulfilled. There was no need to put the interface upside down for that.
like i had post above^^ … so please read all before u answer and dont spread things that are not right.
and other thing is, we have many cases (many threats) here in the forum where u can see that the “BB” does not give same protection.
the way that Comodo want drive right now its ok, nothing is wrong with more usability for u and many other users. But if usability means to lost protection, then please let me criticize it!
I didn’t spread anything not right. If something is restricted and can’t take any bad actions that’s good enough. I don’t believe that enabling HIPS in the current version provides any better protection over setting the BB to restricted instead of partially limited.
That being said, I am one who will always choose maintaining ease of full use of my machine over the negation of a remote security risk.
Also’ when I stopped using Comodo it was at version 5.3 and it wasn’t that easy to get rid of the HIPS alerts. You had to choose not to use it in the initial firewall installation. To me HIPS is evil.
Disabling the HIPS in V 6 leads you to the same situation as enabling “Do not show popup alert” in V 5 and relying on the autosandbox alone and the AV.
Okay, I see what you mean now. From the way it’s described the Behavior Blocker seems more like a file reputation service that blocks different behaviors of unknown things according to how you configure it.
Instead of analyzing what a file is trying to do (actual behavior) and alerting you to it (HIPS), it checks if the file is known and if not, automatically blocks actions or behavior at the level you select. I personally feel this is a better approach. It still is a “behavior blocker” but coming at it in a very different and more suitable for the average user kind of way. If it works correctly it should be just as secure.
The Behaviour Blocker is the automatic sandboxing from the v4/v5 branches with some enhancements; it won’t give the additional D+ alerts and has some HIPS elements integrated.
The name was changed from Automatic Sandboxing to Behaviour Blocker to prevent confusion between the regular CIS sandbox and the automatic sandbox. It also preludes to future developments. The help files of v5.x describe the automatic sandboxing as a behaviour blocker where the Comodo cloud will do the behaviour analysis.
The Help file does not reflect the above. Which is unfortunate. The off topic by m.richter has already already been discussed in HIPS or Behavior Blocker?
Indeed you do. Please don’t take a topic off track with something that was already discussed.
In your other topic this got cleared up for you. We told you what we know and what we know is what egemen told us in the mod board. We cannot give you direct quotes to egemen’s statements as regular users cannot access the mod board.
If you want to continue your discussion do it in your topic and don’t hijack other topics.
You can continue in your previous one. That way we keep things concentrated.
It is unfortunate though the Help file is not complete on this topic… :-\ The bug reporting board has a special subboard for this: Help & simple GUI text mistakes - CIS . Please consider reporting it there. You can reference your topic and mod’s statement there in the report.
