no, vette - I know what you are talking about, I have experienced the tray Icon there- but umbrella closed… Though the guard is still active right? tried it with eicar before? The only problem is the AVGNT.exe is having trouble from running\bug - This might fix it.
I’ve been running Avira Premium with guard on for 5 months now and have had no problems at all. I have disabled the guard and the umbrella closes and when enabling the guard the umbrella opens. I have no slow down with my PC and it has an excellent detection rate. I’m running 8.01.01.23
also CFP+D and Boclean, latest releases.
It’s really strange that umbrella thing. I had been running Avira Free for about a year and the only complaint I had was every 3 months I would have a update issue. This would last half a day and then things returned to normal. Then all of a sudden the umbrella remained closed on bootup. I would look at the front-end display and it told me it was working. The services were active but the umbrella remained closed. I searched the forums and could not rectify this problem which happend at least once a week. I soon turned to Avast Home and have been problem free.

Nobody wants to admit the problem. Avira modders turn there heads. I made a thread and asked when it would be fixed after seeing 12 other posts with the same complaint. They gave me no answer and told me to post a Hijack log. Whatever.
As I’ve already noted, their forum policy is the most stupid and detrimental thing to the whole line of Avira products. Totally unproductive, leading nowhere but to having zillions of duplicate threads about the same issue… which makes all issues get extremely messy and almost never solved.
(:AGY)
Well that’s no good… So AVIRA support is pretty bad?? Often when someone makes you an exotic meal with out asking you what you actually like… The meal doesn’t go all that well…
I may be reading this wrong but if you’re insinuating that the ones that are stating they are not having a problem with Avira (umbrella opening and closing), you’re mistakingly incorrect. Not everyone is running an exact image of an-others PC. There are a lot of variables to take into account. I for one do not run Sandboxie and there are threads that I’ve read where Sandboxie is installed and the problem with Avira exist. I’m not saying it’s Sandboxie that’s causing the problem but it’s something to look into if you’re interested. I’m not running the free version of Avira and the free version may be the problem. Believe me if I had a problem with Avira I’d be the first to admit it and then dump it like a hot potato. There’s many good AV products out there to choose from. But for now until something better comes along that blows Avira out of the water I’ll stick with it. If I miss read your quote I’m sorry. :■■■■
Is there another AV that is nearly as light on resources as Avira ? (Web guard not included ;D)
That’s an Off Topic Question mate.
Keep on topic pls.
Josh
I have experienced the infamous ‘umbrella closed’ issue on occasions too. What I did find is by running System mechanic’s boot optimiser the problem was cured.I can only think that the reorganisation of the process initialization order stopped whatever conflict was there.
As for Sandboxie I’ve never found any issue at all, unlike most other sandboxes which don’t play at all happily with CFP or Avira in my personal experience,Safespace= unable to initialise,Bufferzone =BSODs.
Well I had meant to just make a post stating how light it was. Would of really been off topic i someone had answered… Oh well, wouldn’t want to go offf topic like probably half o y’all do.
ouch
that would be me.
errr this ? :-\ !ot!
Seems like the latest build fixed the “umbrella closed” issue. Cannot find a change log. Working good for me now. :BNC
YEA, internet high-five (:LGH)
Hey Vette, you going to drop Avira once CIS is released? I’ll be droping Rising a little ways after CIS is released.
Regards & cheers :■■■■

No I am not. I only use trusted and tested and proven AV’s. Why does everybody want to rush and install CIS the second its out. I have never used any sort of suite and everyone knows having separate programs are better. Having a stand alone av and a stand alone firewall are better then any suite. The only good thing that will be in CIS is the firewall. Are you really gonna trust CAV3.0? CAV2.0 has been in beta for over year. Until CAV3.0 can provide atleast 97% protection rate then I will not use it. Avast is better for a choice of free av’s.
i kinda agree with you on this, i first wanne see some av-comparisments
I’m going to split your post in pieces so it’s easier to answer ![]()
Why does everybody want to rush and install CIS the second its out.:) I was wondering the same...
I have never used any sort of suite and everyone knows having separate programs are better.I always believed that only 1 company would give me the best virus protection, 1 company the best spyware/other malware, and another one the best Firewall. Now, when using CIS, I changed my point of view. I will *trust* 1 company with the on-acces part, and will use different ones for the certaincy. As CIS uses less recources than CFP now, I don't think there is any problem with that :)
The only good thing that will be in CIS is the firewall.Patients, the antivirus is still not as good as Avira/Kaspersky but thx to CAMAS and the file submission we will be up to date in 12 months
Are you really gonna trust CAV3.0? CAV2.0 has been in beta for over year.
as per reply of Melih :
[i][b]Well in terms of laying all your eggs in one basket: If its there and does the job then why not?
Nothing is 100% and its all about Benefit vs risk.
And yes you have to trust us. Its easier to get to know and trust one vendor than 10!
Will we be targeted, of course we will, will we have bugs, of course we will, will we make sure to fix and come up with solutions to these at lighting speed, of course we will!
Its about you putting your trust in our people! Its about believing our capability to protect you! Its about believing that we will always be there for you!

Avast is better for a choice of free av's.Avast is overbloated and still isn't at the top... Please don't read like : it's bad. Avast is a standart scanner which uses nice stuff like a webscanner etc. But I think it's detection is still after all these years to low...
See ya
Xan
Hi Vette, I didn’t say I would get it the moment it comes out, I said a little ways after it comes out, I also want to see some circumstantial proof of CAVS3 thoroughness first before switching over to it, read Vette, read then reply.
Some good faith (in Comodo) also goes a long ways BTW…

Excuse me Xan but where did you find out that Avast is bad. Did you bother to read the latest stats. Also its always on top at AV Comparatives. Look here. Avast scores well. And check out this video that Comm sent me. Your supporting CAV cause your a modder but CAV will never be able to beat Avira,KAV,NOD32 or Avast. In that YouTube Video Avast did better then NOD32. I actually have gone back to Avira. Also how is Avast bloated? Its FREE and you have the option not to install certain items. Atleast it has a web shield unlike like AVG Free or Avira Free. I am use Avira Premium.
