I installed this new version on an brand new HDD WD Blue with a fresh Windows 10 1909 just for testing.
The HDD chews short all the time and it became annoying. I started to investigate which process accesses the drive when this happens. It is a process named Comodo Internet Security → COMODO Internet Security Helper Service. I disabled all COMODO features one by one. When I disabled the firewall component everything became so quite.
I understand this could happen when COMODO scans the attached drives from time to time or checking some files but what is doing the firewall component in the background? I also opened COMODO window in Advanced View to check visually if this is happening when there are blocked applications or network intrusions. It is not related to blocks or intrusions. Is it writing something in logs?
I never investigated this issue because I am using SSD’s.
I managed to solve the issue related to HDD chewing sound thanks to the advice above (bazolo). I moved the firewall log to an USB stick. Everything is quite now.
Go to Advanced Settings → Firewall → Application Rules. In my case I have visible the scroll on the right side. The list is about two pages.
Select any rule at the top of the list, scroll down a little bit till you don’t see the rule you selected and press the Move Down button. You will get an error message “Please select an item!”. You have to scroll up to see the rule then using Move Down. This becomes annoying when there are lots of rules in the list.
I don’t have to, but if I want I still can get a BOSD:
configuration: COMODO - Internet Security
Step 1: virtuell desktop
S.2: opening settings in comodo Dragon
S.3: Payment methods
S.4.: deactivating ‘Save and fill payment methods’ is failing —> virt.desktop freezes
S.5: going back to the main desktop on closing virt. deskt.
S.6: refreshing the virt.desktop ----> BOSD, but no BOSD when deleting the comodo virth.exe (cmdvirt) in the taskmanager before or virtkiosk
Thank you for reporting.
The reason might be at that time FULL BASE is generated this maybe the cause for the slowness. If it still persist’s Please let me know ?
Have a nice day!
I’ve asked in the Comodo forum before: Why do users need to move items up or down the list? Or, another way of asking, how do you know when you have to move items up or down the list?

It is related to rule priority from up to down. In Linux flavors this is a necessity for those who are managing manually the firewall. In my case in Windows 10 I need some rules to be prioritized to others. Sometimes I allow, block or just ask. Managing a functional firewall is really an state of art.
BTW I would like to see moving a group of selected rules up or down in the list too.
Thanks.
Yes, I surmised that it had something to do with priority. But I still can’t imagine when I would get a clash. Can you give me an example of something in Windows that you moved?

Here is one example from many. Microsoft Word has too many connections outside when it is open. You cannot block the application because templates depend by some connections. After you identify these connections you can put them on top then all the others after. In Linux iptables processes the rules by chains, one by one. This is similar in Comodo. When you get an optimized set of rules you can improve your connections speed.
Firewall is a resource consuming process. I am placing at the top all applications which are running most of the time and at the end all the others. In this way there are immediately actions. When I was running for the first time Comodo Firewall I placed at the beginning an “Ask all” rule to get familiar with every connection. Windows 10 has too many connections outside. The only thing that concerned me was what goes out. Privacy is a must in our office.
Thanks. I only have a list of about 35 items total, and of that, only about 6 that I allow. (Win10.) So perhaps I haven’t noticed when something is “slow.”
Nevertheless, perhaps as a Feature Request, CIS could offer some type of guidance on what Rules are hit the most, so that they should be sorted to the top.
Or even an “Autosort” function once a week?
I presume a log file has the data. I just don’t know how to easily parse it.
FWIW, I moved ICS (DNS) BIND to the top of the list, since it seems that a DNS server would need top priority.
today i update windows 10 with kb4541335… when the update was installed i feel the slowness so, i decided to put in hold the antivirus part of cis… and the update take speed, maybe because is this a rc, and i think some optimization process need to aplied to the cis… but averything end fine and well.
