Announcing Comodo Secure DNS Service

You’re welcome, Lasse88. I would think as more servers are brought online there will be one closer to you, hence, a little better performance.

I hope it will be added again, atm it’s the only filter options i think i would use. ;D

I think it’s a bad idea to block search engines, i can imagine a lot of people who would disable some filters, they otherwise would have had enabled, just so they can use their search engine.

It should rather be an option in the filters then, to block search engines,
or even better, just filter so we can’t enter those cached pages, if that is possible?

I also think it would be a nice, if we had an option we can enable, so we can click on “continue anyway” or something, so we can go on sites anyway, so we don’t have to login and disable some filters, and then go back to the site, and then enable the filters again afterwards.

And wouldn’t you have to block your “Comodo Secure DNS search page” to, if you block others?

"we do not return "NX Domain" responses for domains that do not exist, but rather Comodo Secure DNS search page similar to those returned by Microsoft Live or Google."

Yes, this will become the only SecureDNS. Remember that currently there are only a few servers active. This hasn’t yet opened up to the worldwide datacenters, so you’re very likely much farther from the current servers than you would be when the service is ready to leave beta. I wouldn’t expect it to be much different than the current public SecureDNS.

Search Engine is an option in the filters. However, several filters can apply to search engines. I suspect that before the service leaves beta, there will be an option to whitelist sites. (At least I would hope so…)

Hi,

I thought the beta servers supported DNSSEC?

Will they be or what? What other security measures are being implimented?

Thanks,

HI,

Just a quick namebech result. Trying to decide if I should keep with the test or go with Comcasts new DNS rollout. I have other people on this network and the betas have been a bit sluggish at times. Let me know to on the list of security features, besides what we already know from our config site.

THis is from Fall Riover, MA

8.26.56.26

SYS-8.26.56.26

AVG: 44.74

MIN: 17.6

MAX: 501.4

•This is your current preferred DNS server.
twitter.com appears incorrect: 199.59.149.198, 199.59.148.82, 199.59.148.10
•NXDOMAIN Hijacking
www.paypal.com is hijacked: 173.0.88.2, 173.0.88.34, 173.0.84.2, 173.0.84.34
•Server does not support Domain Helper service
•Server does not support DNSSEC-validating

Of course the current release DNS came up faster but even I was surprized at 129% faster and the only error was the twitter problem, which most servers had anyway.

However even the new Comcast DNS came up slower than the old ones. But they have implimented DNSSEC and no NXDOMAIN Hijacking.

fyi

Hey again,

Gosh I think I’m bored… ;D

From Steve Gibsons DNS Benchmark. Right now they look about even, although Comcast had a burp on one of their cached entries. I think I will stick with the beta for a while, keep an eye out and help report any problems. Looks like in the end it’s going to be security that sways me.

but blocking all of youtube is not good.look at norton dns a very good content filter i must say and it lets ya go to youtube.if your gonna block all of youtube then make an exclusion option.im my opinion alot of people wont use the content filter because of this, my opinion.

Blocking youtube is like digging your own grave

What categories can we block?

This is what the control panel looks like.

Why are things like weather and food etc on there? Are these for time wasting sites to be blocked as well?

Would some of you check your ability to connect to Windows Update?
Thanks

I noticed that after I registered and changed my DNS settings, Windows Update and Secunia PSI could no longer connect.
What did I do wrong?
How to fix?

Can i change my IP by Comodo DNS server?

You mean change your IP address? No.

DNS only translates the name of the web site you are looking for (human language) into the IP address (numbers). Some DNS services add extra an service. Like one to facilitate content filtering.

i think i remember you saying that comodo was acquiring some other dns service or working with another dns service. is comodo secure dns 2.0 part of this other dns service or did that deal fall through and this new comodo secure dns is something you guys are building from the ground up

we acquired www.dns.com and this is part of that service…

awesome. i can’t wait for someone to do a video review on it especially when it becomes stable

Hi all. Does anyone know if Comodo DNS v. 2 Beta can work with Win98 and dial-up?

I have been using Comodo DNS v. 1 for some time without issue. However, when I add the beta IPs (8.26.56.26 and 8.20.247.20) to my connection properties, my browsers (Opera, K-Meleon and Firefox) time out with error ‘cannot resolve host’. I do flush my local DNS cache and reboot after changing the DNS resolver IPs.

I am not interested in content filtering, only malware site blocking.

I raised a support ticket and they referred me to this thread.

Any help would be appreciated.

yes it would work
