Since not all of you may know this, I thought I’d share this info.
There’s been an windows update (KB 2852386, I think), that upodate Windows disk cleaning tool, so now it can clean old (backup) service pack files and old windows updates (among other things). It also seems to somewhat clean winsxs folder (often the biggest folder on C drive), so if you haven’t already, give it a try, don’t forget to restart after that, because some cleaning takes place during restart. You won’t be able to rollback windows updates after that though.
Also, if you have Nvidia GPU, and been updating drivers for it, you may want to look at the C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\Installer2 folder, it may take few GBs, and the contents of the folder can be safely deleted.
Thx for sharing this with us :-TU
For people who regularly update their AMD graphics driver they may have gathered stuff in x:\AMD\Support .
If you happen to have config.msi folder (hidden) in the root of any of your drives, and it takes a lot of space, you can delete it, unless you’re currently installing \ updating something.
Config.msi is a sort of temp folder to store changes during install \ update (using windows install, I think), in case you decide to cancel install half way, so that changes could be rolled back. Usually this folder cleans itself after install \ update is complete, but sometimes it fails to do so. So if you have this folder, and it takes a lot of space, you can delete it.
If you’re using Zoom player (pretty good media player, that can download \ update all needed codecs, so no need for codec packs), you might want to check C:\ProgramData\Zoom Player\Cache folder. It’s not very big usually, but it’s the folder, where Zoom player downloads codec setup files and doesn’t clean after updating.
