Viruscope causes Windows update to hang.

A. When installing Windows 10 updates, the Comodo Internet Security Helper Service stays at 12-30% for a large amount of time and the computer becomes extremely sluggish.
Can you reproduce the problem & if so how reliably?:
Yes, using the same version of Comodo Internet Security on both a seperate PC and Laptop running the same exact build of Windows 10 Pro, updating at the same exact time on a home network.
If you can, exact steps to reproduce. If not, exactly what you did & what happened:
1:Windows 10 Pro update starts to download and install update on multiple computers on my LAN
2:All computer exibit extreme sluggishness while updating, with Comodo Internet Security Helper Service using 12-30% of the CPU usage non-stop.
3:Windows 10 Pro build 1607. Comodo CIS free 8.4.0.5165
One or two sentences explaining what actually happened:
Opening any app takes a significant amount of time, including Windows Explorer. Opening Task Manager, KillSwitch ect is extremely slow.
One or two sentences explaining what you expected to happen
PC with an Intel 4790K CPU, 8Gb or DDR3 ram and 256Gb SSD should be fast under any CPU load, especially with only a 20% CPU load.
If a software compatibility problem have you tried the advice to make programs work with CIS?:
No software incompatibility.
Any software except CIS/OS involved? If so - name, & exact version:
Both PC and laptop have same software running. Even with different software, the symptoms are exactly identical.
Any other information, eg your guess at the cause, how you tried to fix it etc:
Comodo is blocking the windows update client and causing it to hang??? Not sure if Comodo or Windows is the culprit.

B. YOUR SETUP
Exact CIS version & configuration:
CIS free 8.4.0.5165
Modules enabled & level. D+/HIPS, Autosandbox/BBlocker, Firewall, & AV:
Antivirus: Windows Defender.
HIPS: off
Sandbox: block unknown, malicious software
Firewall: Safe mode ON. Stealth ports. All advanced features enabled.
Have you made any other changes to the default config? (egs here.):
Virus scope monitors all applications, NOT just sandboxed ones.
Have you updated (without uninstall) from CIS 5, 6 or 7?:
No
if so, have you tried a a a clean reinstall - if not please do?:
?
Have you imported a config from a previous version of CIS:
No
if so, have you tried a standard config - if not please do:
?
OS version, SP, 32/64 bit, UAC setting, account type, V.Machine used:
windows 10 Pro 64-bit UAC on, Administrator. No virtual machine.
Other security/s’box software a) currently installed b) installed since OS, including initial trial security software included with system:
a=Sandboxie was installed but uninstalled b=?

UPDATE: Changing Viruscope to monitor sandboxed apps only immediately causes Comodo helper service to lower its CPU usage, enabling Windows update to continue. After disabling Viruscope, Service Host: Local system is then able to run in roder to install updates.

Conclusion: Viruscope is somehow blocking Service host from running correctly.

Hi,

Many thanks for the report but could you check this issue with beta version? The number of changes between that version and beta version is very large.

Thanks again.

I concluded that Viruscope was causing some type of conflict with Service Host.

After disabling viruscope…

I think there was an issue where Viruscope caused slowdown with large files. Should be fixed with beta version though.

Good. CIS slowed my laptop so bad a few days ago I actually booted with a Windows recovery CD and loaded a previous system restore point thinking it was something unrelated. I couldn’t even boot into safe mode from the desktop because the computer was so unresponsive not even msconfig.exe would open.

Now I’m adding an option in the bootloader for safe mode.

You could try the beta like I said. If you did experience issues in the past then you could triage. Not to mention that it’s fun, interesting and quite stable.

Of course, it’s your choice in the end.

I did try the beta version and I went back to the stable version until the second beta is released.

Thanks for posting this bug report. I ran into some problems updating my PC recently.
I found out that Comodo was causing the slow-downs, but not how to solve it without shutting Comodo down completely.

Turning off Virusscope for the time being, at least until the next update. :-TU
