Virus signature database not updating

Hi,

I have the same problem as many people… my virus database is not updating. Specifically I get the error message “Failed to update the virus signature database. Please check your internet connection and try again later”.

I see there are loads of posts about this and loads of suggested solutions. But I don’t know which to try first or which approach the developer’s recommend. As this is such a common problem it would be useful to have the recommended approach to diagnosing and fixing the problem in the FAQ?

Please can someone help me out.

Can you please post your OS version, language, CIS version, current AV DB version database (0?)

Does you browser have proxy settings?
Can you use CIS, More, Check for updates without trouble?
Can you verify CIS logs and check Tasks log to see what the error id is that’ recorded on AV updates?
(You can find it by opening a av/fw/d+ log, and then press More on the bottom).
Do you know if you system has ever been infected?
If you run Hitmanpro does it complain about proxy settings on your system?
