I thought my COMODO CIS would update the virus database once a day, however, it seems to be doing that about every hour. Who so frequently?
Hi gtadamsesq, welcome to the forums.
Umm… yes. Well, the hourly updates were recently introduced and were implemented due to user demand on getting newly identified baddies and false positive corrections out to the user quickly. I suspect Comodo worked very, very hard to achieve this & it would required a significant continued effort as well. So, it’s intentional. But, I guess the controls & displays for AV updates in CIS are perhaps lagging behind a bit on the new AV hourly update rate.
edit
Is there a way to change this feature to get updates only once a day?
If not, can it be disabled?
The frequency of AV updates cannot currently be changed. They can be merely turned on or off… However, there is a possible work-around: AV on/off updates is in 3 places; Real-Time Scanning, Manual Scanning & Scheduled Scanning. I’ve not tested this… but, it should work.
- Turn off AV updates for both Real-Time Scanning & Manual Scanning.
- Turn on AV updates for Scheduled Scanning.
- Set-up a Scheduled AV scan for a trivial/small directory every 24 hours (or whatever).
Daily updates. How’s that?
This is similar to how I set it up, however, even with no scheduled scans you still get updates.
I believe there is an internal updater as well as the three “update in conjunction with a scan” options you’ve mentioned above.
Cheers,
Ewen
I’ve tested this now & it does seem to work (daily AV update only). I’m not sure why it’s working for me & not for you Ewen.
With database updates every hour wouldn’t this male the statefull virus scanning pointless?
Sorry I don’t understand, why would hourly AV updates make Stateful AV scanning pointless?
Even if Sateful engine would rescan all files in the SFI list after each update there would be at least the advatage to not rescan the same file in the timespan between consecutive AV updates.
Though the SFI could already be scanning those files only against new signatures whenever only devs could possibly confirm this.
