I am having some issues with a rebuild of a Windows Vista operating system. As of last Thursday, I was running an instance of Windows Vista Business and ZoneAlarm Pro. On Thursday I upgraded a whole bunch of hardware and decided to give Comodo a go since I’d heard so many good things about the software. Was running the RC1 client and have since had the software update me to the latest released version.
These are the following problems I’m experiencing:
-
USB Bluetooth Dongle connection to mobile phone now not able to browse files within the mobile phone. Previously, I was able to happily plug the dongle into the USB slot and connect up the mobile phone and have it browse happily without any issues. Now, I connect the dongle, the system states that my phone is connected - the phone also states a connection to the computer, but when I attempt to browse files, the computer item in the phone disappears and the computer states “unable to connect to mobile phone”. However utilising the USB mobile phone cable, I can successfully connect to the phone.
-
USB External Hard Disk Caddy is unseen by Windows. I plug the USB HDD into the computer, it detects its existence with a “bing-■■■■” noise. Saw the drivers for the USB Caddy be installed, then the drivers for the Seagate 120GB HDD be installed. After that I see nothing. Nothing comes up in Disk Management. No logical drives show up in Windows Explorer.
-
USB cable connection to digital camera cannot be seen. I connect the camera to the USB connection but I don’t get any removable drive or camera appear inside Windows Explorer.
Differences between this installation of Vista and previous installation of Vista:
- External HDDs connect and disconnect without issues.
- No bluetooth connectivity issues with mobile phone
- No camera connectivity issues
- ZoneAlarm vs Comodo
- Was AMD, now Intel (with appropriate changes of motherboard and RAM)
Questions that might help me answer some questions - thinking along the lines here as well as I write this call for aid.
- Does Comodo turn Windows Firewall off by default? With the previous installation with the lesser level of resources, I did a heap of Vista Tweaks and disabled heaps of things to give my system more resources for the things I wanted to run. Things like Windows Defender and Windows Firewall were items that I disabled right at the very start. This installation with an increased amount of available resources, I’ve left them alone.
- I’m still understanding what Comodo Firewall does. Defense+ is a completely new thing for me. I noticed late last night that the system was set in “Firewall - Clean PC with Training mode” and Defense+ was set in “Clean PC mode”. Should I be changing Defense+ to “Clean PC with Training mode” as well? I also note that Defense+ has almost 12,000 entries “pending my review”. What should I do here?
- Is there any way to have Comodo’s Firewall pop-up and Defence+ pop-up messages keep position where I move them? I run two monitors and my Windows Task Bar is on the secondary monitor. I sometimes play games and one occasion, Defense+ locked up a game for me because it noted “Game requesting keyboard use” but the popup window showed up underneath the full-screen game application. The game was locked up by Defense+'s routine, I couldn’t get to the message box to answer because the game sat on top of it. I’ve tried to move the message boxes to the secondary monitor, but every time a new one appears, it shows up on the bottom right hand corner of the primary monitor.
Apologies in advance for the wall of words, but thank you in advance for any advice that might be forthcoming.
