update to CIS 4.0.141842.828 from 3.13.121240.574

Hi. I’m currently running 3.13.121240.574 and I’ve downloaded the complete installer for 4.0.141842.828. Can I do an in-place installation of 4.x, just running the installer and letting it write over what I have now? Or do I need to uninstall 3.13…574 first?

I want to do it this way so I don’t have to be online to perform the update. Plus, I already have it local so I’d rather just do that instead of letting an updater do it.

If I’m reading other forum posts correctly, I can answer my own questions:

1 - No, you can’t do an in-place pave-over install. You have to uninstall first, make sure it’s completely uninstalled, and do the 4.x install from scratch.
2 - No, you can’t do an in-place update with the Comodo updater and the offered update. As above, you need to completely uninstall first and reinstall with the installer.
3 - To make sure completely uninstalled, you should run the special uninstaller and registry cleaner listed in the clean-up tool thread link below.
4 - Yes, you can do it all with the downloaded installer, without being online during the installation.
5 - No, you can’t keep your settings, rules and policies. You need to recreate them from scratch after installing 4.x.

I finished the reinstall, it seems to have gone well. (I’m liking the new UI, although I see some people hating on it.)

A follow-up question: I ran GRC’s ShieldsUp portscan. With Comodo 3.14 I was stealthed on all ports, but now with Comodo 4.x GRC is reporting port 0 and port 1 “Closed” instead of stealthed. Is there some way to stelath those too?

After I used the Comodo UNINSTALLER I ran Alan’s ZapBeta.bat. I said ‘Yes’ to the RUN_ONCE at the end, which gave me an error message, as you can see below. I said ‘no’ to delete and rebuild. Did I break anything? The error message is kinda scary.

Like I said, I finished up with the reinstall after that and it seems to be working. I’m just wondering what that error message is telling me.

[SC] OpenService FAILED 1060:

The specified service does not exist as an installed service.

Some of the above takes effect AFTER a Reboot

I saw ACCESS DENIED errors from the first cleanup script I downloaded.
I ran it many times to identify and fix various permission issues.
After I was satisfied I rebooted and the Event Log held 4 off errors.
There were no further warnings upon subsequent reboots, BUT …
I then observed more than 50 new PERMANENT errors in the REPOSITORY,
with significant “implications” for many things, including .NET FRAMEWORK.

I strongly suspect the following “Delete and Rebuild Repository” caused grief.
The following deletes the Repository, and Windows should EVENTUALLY rebuild it.
Rebuilding may need several reboots and or perhaps a few hours.
Repeated deletion of the repository during rebuild may cause extreme corruption.

After all else is fixed use “Delete & Rebuild Repository” ONCE ONLY (IF AT ALL)
