Try the following, open a command-box (start, run, cmd [ENTER])
and type:
net start cmdhlp
That should bring the Helper service back alive…

I tried your suggestion a number of times, before, during, and after I clicked cfpupdat.exe, no change, same error pops up.
CIS is listed in WinXP add/remove, but when I click it nothing happens. Couple strange things I noted; it lists the installed size as 15.67MB and version 3.8.65951.477 and indicates its use as ‘frequently’ last used 3/5/09???
I have RevoUninstaller and it shows 15.69MB and same version as above. I tried a few times to reinstall CIS (which shows as 33.478MB) and it says ‘an older version is installed would I like to uninstall’ - when I click ‘yes’ nothing happens.
I’ll wait to hear from you before I try anything else.
