Unrecognized option or missing parameter(s) in TrustConnect.ovpn:24: 8 (2.1_rc4)

Friends

Can anyone shed some light on the problem two people have. We are un-able to connect to the TC server. The log file says:
2010-08-31 14:07:06 Error code = 12029 dest = 0 proxy = ‘’
2010-08-31 14:07:27 Error code = 12029 dest = 2 proxy = ‘’
2010-08-31 14:07:27 Used old config
2010-08-31 14:07:48 Error code = 12029 dest = 1 proxy = ‘’
2010-08-31 14:07:48 1 Unable to retrieve server list. Error code = 12029
Options error: Unrecognized option or missing parameter(s) in TrustConnect.ovpn:24: 8 (2.1_rc4)
Use --help for more information.

I look at the --help but that does not really help me that much. :frowning:

Where would one start sorting this out?

Thanks for help with this,

Calle2010

Hello

It seems you don’t have access to trustlogo.comodo.com for some reason.
Try to open link in your browser: https://trustlogo.comodo.com/trustconnect/location.
You should get a response.
If you get the response try to connect to TC server again.

Thanks Vadka

Sorry, but I do not get a response but the connection times out. >:(

I looked at the Trustconnect.ovpn file and here is the content. Look at the last line.

client
dev tap
proto tcp

#emote us2.vpn.comodo.com 443
;remote-random

auth-user-pass
resolv-retry infinite
nobind
persist-key
persist-tun
pull
remap-usr1 SIGTERM

ca ca.crt
ns-cert-type server
tls-remote ComodoVPNS

mute-replay-warnings
mute 2
comp-lzo
verb 1
? 钑? h偱 (櫯 櫯 垯?

My friend, who also used TC for a while and has the exact same problem and error message, deleted the last line and tried again, but got the same error. So maybe that line is not the issue. On her computer the last line looked like machine language, though, and on mine it is Chinese chars. ???

The interesting thing is that in my home I can access TC just fine (Windows 7) but not from my work computer. My friend (also Win7) cannot access TC from neither location, although before she could from both locations. And she did not change anything.

So this is very confusing.

Any more ideas to try?

Thanks
Calle 2010

It’s looks that some destination Internet resources are closed.

Log shows that your client can’t access:
http://downloads.comodo.com/trustconnect/client.conf
https://trustlogo.comodo.com/trustconnect/location
and some other TC resources.

So, you should contact your local administrator or Internet provider to check restrictions.

I checked the Trustconnect.ovpn config file on my laptop in my home and noticed a couple of differences. Here is that .ovpn file (the one that I can connect with):

client
dev tap
proto tcp

#emote uk2.vpn.comodo.com 443
remote-random

auth-user-pass
resolv-retry infinite
nobind
persist-key
persist-tun
pull
remap-usr1 SIGTERM

ca ca.crt
ns-cert-type server
tls-remote ComodoVPNS

mute-replay-warnings
mute 2
comp-lzo
verb 1

The difference is this line:

#emote uk2.vpn.comodo.com 443
and the last line, which is missing from this (working) file, i.e. the “Chinese” garbled line in the non-working computer.

I will try to replace the .ovpn file in the other computer with the above one and see if it helps. I believe that the #emote us2.vpn.comodo.com 443 is blocked from here, but the UK one works.

I don’t know why there is the US server in one file an the UK server in the other, as we used the same program version to install the Trustconnect.

Thanks

Hmm. It did not help. The program seems to add stuff in the Trustconnect.ovpn file at the end. Things that look like garbage. Then it complains that “Unrecognized option or missing parameter(s) in TrustConnect.ovpn:24: 8 (2.1_rc4)”. That number “8” at the end changes according to what it puts in at the end of the ovpn file.

I tried to remove the # from the .ovpn file (#emote uk2.vpn.comodo.com 443) and make that “remote uk2.vpn.comodo.com 443” but that did not make any difference.

So, no luck. Maybe I need to give up on this as I do not have that much time to spare.
Sad…

Seems others have similar problems too, so maybe the Comodo could help us fix this?

Hi,
I have a similar problem:
Log:
‘2010-09-02 14:03:13 Error code = 12002 dest = 0 proxy = ‘’
2010-09-02 14:03:34 Error code = 12002 dest = 2 proxy = ‘’
2010-09-02 14:03:34 Used old config
2010-09-02 14:03:55 Error code = 12002 dest = 1 proxy = ‘’
2010-09-02 14:03:55 1 Unable to retrieve server list. Error code = 12002
Options error: Unrecognized option or missing parameter(s) in TrustConnect.ovpn:24: X (2.1_rc4)
Use --help for more information.’

I have also tried the links that you provided:
http://downloads.comodo.com/trustconnect/client.conf
https://trustlogo.comodo.com/trustconnect/location
Neither one opens a page!

What information should I give the network provider and what’s the likely fix (is it a port problem)?

TrustConnect client need to download configuration files and client certificate from Comodo sites:
http://downloads.comodo.com/trustconnect/client.conf
http://downloads.comodo.com/trustconnect/ca.crt

It also uses special web-service:
https://trustlogo.comodo.com/trustconnect/location
to get a list of available access servers.

If these links isn’t available from your PC or laptop, TC client can’t work correctly. So, contact your admin or provider to check why these links are not available for you.

OK Thanks Vadim.
I’ll see if I can get some answers.

[at]Vadim (or anybody who can help)

It seems that the ISP is obliged to make certain restrictions at my current university location that may be causing my problem.

I have only tried the free version of TrustConnect here.
Does the full/trial version connect in a different way to the free version? Is it possible that the full version wouldn’t be affected by the ‘restrictions’ that are blocking the free version?

I have previously used a (inferior, I thought) PPTP type VPN at this location. It was not blocked.

You may see the differences between free and paid version here.

The full/trial version connects in the same way as free version, therefore using a paid version is unlikely to help.

TrustConnect also supports PPTP, so you can try to use it but it is less safe.

Thanks.

How can I switch and try PPTP?

For configure PPTP connection to TrustConnect, you don’t need to install client program, you may use default Windows PPTP client.

There is no instruction for configure PPTP connection on Windows system. But you may try to use iPod instructions for configure PPTP connection to TrustConnect system:

Thanks Vadim. Unfortunately it also doesn’t work! :frowning:

I have the same problem. Very Sad.
After paid the TrustConnect and download/intalled the client, I found that I cannot connect OR open the address" https://trustlogo.comodo.com/trustconnect/location".
Is there any solution provided?

Can you connect to other https (443 port) resources? For example https://accounts.comodo.com ?

You may contact your local administrator or provider and ask them to check connection to https (443 port) resources.
