Unacceptable CPU Usage

Sorry if this is in wrong area but this is the first time I’ve posted here.

I installed Comodo Firewall just about hour ago and I’ve configured some programs (web browsers, etc.) to allow access. So far so good.

But then I noticed something weird. Process Explorer shows that CPF.EXE is using 30-50% of CPU time. It is not constant use, it happens in every two-three seconds. CPF uses 30-50 % CPU, then drops to background for few seconds, then goes up again. The problem is that is causes visible “jumping”. For example I went to play Doom 3 and there is a visible slowdown or jump in every two second. Needless to say, I cannot play the game that way.

It IS annoying. I launched Quake 1 (the original from 1996) and I can’t even play it without jumping! And my processor is Athlon 64 3400+ (2.2 GHz).

This is completely unacceptable! What can I do?

I monitored the file you mentioned for 60 secs and it remained at 0%.

If you’re concerned about it, set priority to a lower value in Task Manager. So right click the Taskbar, go to Task Manager and then click the column header called “Image Name”. This will sort the processes in alphabetical order. Next, right click cpf.exe, go to Set Priority and set it to either “BelowNormal” or “Low”.

Unfortunately, this only works for the current session. So if you reboot, you’ll have to repeat the instruction every time.
