Unable to Update From a Limited Account

When running from a limited account, get the following message after clicking update:

Updater can not run in non-administrator login. Please login as system administrator or one that is part of administrator group.

Could someone explain the rationale for this in view of the fact that I just updated Comodo firewall today from version 3.0.14.276 to version 3.0.15.277 from a limited account?

Mike

Hi,

From what I understand CMF now works by installing system drivers. I don’t think it is possible for a limited user account to install some drivers at all/ completely. Therefore to ensure every system can update there is a warning displayed to use admin permissions to carry out updates. The reason why the Firewall does not ask is because this update process replaces/ copies files into its working directory instead of installing drivers - therefore does not require admin permissions.

Hope this explains things a little,

Jim

Nice explanation: makes sense.
Thanks for the enlightenment.
