UCC Certificate Validation Question

Another question on UCC certificates:

What is the validation process for these? We host multiple web sites in a cloud environment. We only are currently able to use one SSL certificate in this environment which is why we use a UCC cert. What is the validation process for these certificates going forward? We find that we are frequently adding new domains to this certificate and often times need a new cert issued on short notice.

Thank you!

Mark,

There’s no difference in the validation procedure from the standard certificates that you already obtain. In essence, we (Comodo) need to verify all the details in that certificate.

If you do not own the domain name, you need a ‘domain authorization’ form from our validation team, which I believe you have gone through and used before.

Thanks Sal. I wanted to verify we could still use the Domain Authorization Letter PDF.

Thanks again.

How “short” is “short notice”?

Frankly even with a perfect whois record, correct validation documents and preemptive support tickets passing such information forward, validations always take time.

Not if you have all your ducks in a row in which case the cert will be issued quite quickly.

If by “quickly” you mean less than a few days, you clearly have a much better experience than I do.

By quickly I mean in under a business day. Most of our delays are waiting on the customer to respond to us, but if you have everything ready for us, there should be no reason as to why it would take more than 8 hours to process the order. This is something that should take 4 hours max.

I can’t even get a domain validated certificate in under four hours.

Right now I’m in live chat asking about timeframes on an order I verified three hours ago and the reply I just got was:

Your order is kept under review i escalated your order to concern department they will issue your order within today

Regarding this statement:
Most of our delays are waiting on the customer to respond to us

I think the only professional thing I can do is say nothing at all.

So long as you’re not ordering something that requires a callback or a Comodo double-check, in most cases DV certs are issued quickly (under an hr). This topic was about an IV/OV cert, the UCC which is different than cert you’re having trouble with.

For security reasons some orders require a callback, but this happens in roughly less than 1% of all orders.
