[SOLVED] Update → "COMODO Security Agent could not be started"

Hello

Since CIS told me an update was available, I went ahead with the update… that got stuck at this point:

https://s16.postimg.org/yjka3d3ud/Comodo._Update.1.png

So I stopped it, and now here’s what I get when trying to start CIS:

https://s27.postimg.org/eb2k2nv43/Comodo._Update.2.png

What’s a girl to do?

Thank you.

I have the same problem !!!
Moderators: a solution for this problem is very urgent !!
I have now firewall anymore !!

same here :frowning: but the diagnostic tool first find errors, then not again.
i rebooted the system and now it seems that the new version is installed. the desktopicon i removed re-appears always…

Yes, I had to reboot as well.

Looks like the update wasn’t just about updating the virus database, but upgrading to CIS Premium 10:

Very annoying :-TD

Lesson learned: Do not let CIS update before checking Comodo’s forum…

I got a black screen with this uodate, I had to remove it with safe mode and I did a clean install of the updated version.

“Comodo Loves me”, really?

Maybe not. LOL!

In fairness, there is a “Tell me more” (or similar) button in the update dialogue window. Clicking this opens a web page that shows full details of the update.

Cheers,
Ewen

I wasn’t that lucky on a family member’s PC. After I rebooted Windows 7, Windows wouldn’t even get past the login screen, saying the Windows Service Event Notification Service wasn’t working and it then went to a black screen.

I had to use System Restore to get back to a point before that update.

This is not “Solved”, it’s a ******* on-going disaster.

This update a broke everything on my computer!

Update stalled at 45 percent with cmdinstall.exe, left it over an hour.
Pressed stop and it exited.
Attempted to open the application.
Could only run diagnostics with no option to correct are access my settings to save.

Restarted computer, same message about agent.
All my Applications were blocked only thing running was a new CIS with a new theme and maybe two other applications which were sandboxed.

Check programs and features and it showed that CIS could not be repaired as the option was not available.
I unblocked and un-sandboxed whatever programs I could from the interface

Then CIS suddenly stalled and stopped responding after restarting the interface.

Left CIS sit for an and hour and it finally started responding and some of my application then launched. It looks like it may have created a new config or re-analysed everything on my computer.

Why can you not created a backup of the current config with a major update??
At this point I do not know how the software is operating as I do not have hours to test and it appears that it may not be fully functional and also I have now no idea what applications is or is not working properly on my system either as to how it was previously.

Tell me how I can recover my previous setting to import into a new installation?
Tell me how I can properly remove this broken version?

Same problem here. The issue is NOT SOLVED!

  1. Comodo Firewall update hung at 80% or so.

  2. After waiting for half an hour, I rebooted the PC.

  3. After reboot, Comodo Firewall could not start, offered to run diagnostics. Diagnostics hung also. Also, some of the Windows 7 settings (desktop to begin with) were corrupted.

  4. I tried to uninstall Comodo Firewall but it says it can’t because of “an error”.

  5. I tried to download and run the installer anew, but installer “can’t connect to Comodo servers”.

It would be really nice to get some advice from Comodo here. 88)

yes and not at all “solved”
before it evenn didnt let me to post here so i opened a new thread:
https://forums.comodo.com/install-setup-configuration-help-cis/troubles-with-update-t118757.0.html

Some updates on my situation after a whole day trying to correct this.

Forgot to mention I’m Windows 7 SP1 x64
Exported whatever config I could from the last update

Attempted to install again using in-place upgrade from web installer. Installation started upgrade but stalled again at 44% for over an hour.
This caused the add removed entry to be removed.

Terminated the installers MSI and CMDinstall and the 4 Comodo processes with process hacker.
Used the MS uninstall tool applet (Replacement for MSI Cleanup utility).

Manually used the GUID Strings for removal:-

{A31A5DFC-3439-48FC-99BB-5174168AE471}
{CC6B1BB4-4E06-4A5B-A166-B371B551324B}

{D6AB1F5B-FED6-49A9-9747-327BD28FB3C7}

Booted to safe mode.
Manually removed Comodo Firewall and Security Non Plug and Play Drivers from Device Manager.
Ran Both Cleanup tools provided on the forums.

Manually removed Comodo folders from :-
Program Files
Program Files (x86)
Programdata
Common Files
Users\Appdata\Local and Users\Appdata\roaming

Manually removed entries for comodo and comodogroup in regedit for :-
HKLM\Software
HKCU\Software
HKU\Software

Restarted and installed Comodo Firewall again.
Installation completed successfully.

I could see the application has still stored some setting such as the timeout I set for alert boxes??

Imported previous configs for Internet, Proactive and Firewall. (these were not my original as they were from the upgrade version that created new rules sets).

Rebooted as required.

There is still a problem with the application(s)

As noticed also on the upgrade previously and the current application installation. It blocks almost everything by default which wasn’t imported and it also does not apply setting automatically for trusted vendors. ie if I run a trusted vendor application it is still blocked completely unless I unblock it. Even application that I am sure was unblock previously although launched (unsandboxed) were still listed as on the block page.

Done a scan to find all unknown applications and added them to trusted (which they all were)

I also noticed that anytime I go into the application to modify setting or unblock an application, it will put a fresh Comodo Firewall icon on my desktop and change the sort order.

I also get a permission problem with I try to install killswitch from active process list :-

An error occurred while installing the product:
Failed to initialize the installer. Please check your file system access rights. Error: 5. Access is denied

Try Again.

Overall this product seems fairly broken I have had no issues with any other versions.
My computer has the same software installed on it now for a long long time now, no major changes.
Also I am tech savvy and work in the IT industry and there is nothing I could class on my computer being a contributing factor to the behavior.

Humm, so I’m just after exiting the application and run the Comodo Firewall GUI using “Run As Administrator”.

Comodo Firewall icon still gets displaced with changing any settings.

I was able to install and run Comodo Killswitch without any problems.

Still not sure the HIPS or containment system is working properly

Ultramon and it associated files are constantly on the blocked list no matter how many times I unblocked but they do appear to accessing Comodo so that maybe the cause.

Anyhow I can only test this for a few days and hopefully someone know what is going on.

More woes …

So after reading through the release notes I see there is supposed to be a Internet Security Essentials.

I did delete that in my previous clean up before fresh installation.

After Checking Comodo Internet Security Essentials - Introduction, Network Security, SSL Certificate I see I have Internet Security Essentials in my add remove programs but it does not have and application icon and the program is not located at or installed to :-

C:/Program Files (x86)/Comodo/Internet Security Essentials

With Win 10 - ISE although showing in the Add / Romove Programs, is located under the hidden folder C:\ProgramData\Comodo\ISE

There is no standalone executable or icon

Thanks Ploget, it was not there or in any other folder. Checked with UltraSearch

Started the whole cleanup and reinstall process from scratch.

Used the uninstall feature of the current application which was got broken previously but this completed successfully.

This time I also ran CCleaner with the exception of removing known unrelated entries related to other applications.

I also used systernals regsearch and removed all Comodo registry entries, some were un-removable as only NT/system had full access. I skipped these.
Also this time I manually deleted isesrv service using sc delete and and deleted internet security essentials driver in device manager.

This time I also decided to install the CIS with antivirus version instead of just firewall while the current av was disabled.
I also used the “Run as Administrator” on the cispremium_installer_6100_08 file rather the just double clicking it and bypassed selecting “run” on the internet download unblock security prompt dialogue.

Installed with the same options more or less without browser changes etc.
Everything appears to be working much better.
Imported previous config OK
Initial scan completed Ok
Changed all settings to previous preferences OK.
Unblocked a few files and done a file rating scan to unblock other applications and files.
Ultramon is still blocked a lot but I think it because it trying to access Comodo protected resources.
This time killswitch automatically prompted for elevation and installed OK.
Restarted Computer. Everything seems fine except from the ICON problem.

Enabled my secondary AV and both are playing together very well, no slow downs or overhead so I was probably better of for this in the long run as I reverted to Comodo Firewall because it would not play well with AVG a few years back, seems to work fine with Panda Free.

In fact I think my system is a little more responsive now and I have notice another security application now also works properly without seeking elevation

Just need burn it in a bit.
Still no CISE application information but I expect this is integrated as there is a cisevlog.dll withing the CIS application folder.

So all is well except the Secure DNS, this feature has not worked properly in about 3 or more years.
I always receive the dialogues but I am unable to set exceptions or continue any website that I get blocked on.

Noticed during the installation that it still uses the old DNS settings.
When I go to test this on welcome.dnsbycomodo.com it says I do not using Secure DNS even though the sites are blocked by it.
When I use the new DNS settings and flush the caches and attempt, it say I cant connect to that page.

Also I can not put the information on the WAN side of my router because it either Routed_PPP with my credentials supplied I would have to select Routed_IP with static and no credentials but then I have to use all static information, not just the DNS

Blah Blah Blah, Thanks all anyways for the help and take care.

Same problem. In my case Chromodo update failed (expected on Vista, but absolutely unexpected via google_update in between CAV core update process). (censored emotions on fail to deliver basic secure application norms)

HARDCORE NOOB SOLUTION

[ol]- Find “CisTray.exe” (it should be in C:\Program Files\COMODO\COMODO Internet Security)

  • Put a shortcut of this in the Startup folder of the Start menu (bottom left)[/ol]

Like this, it should start CIS minimised in the System Tray, and work as usual.

Note: as said above, it is my noob solution to the problem. It seems to work fine for me, but I do not say it is the best solution.

[EDIT] a temporary fix seems to have been made: https://forums.comodo.com/beta-corner-cis/cis-preview-build-v6217-t119003.0.html;msg855735. The next update should be available around April 21th.
