I really like the Comodo Firewall Pro 3 but like many users, my experience with computers is about average. Having said that, I am having a hard time deciphering all of the alerts that come my way when using the firewall on a daily basis, For example, just deleting a file to the recycle bin, drew an alert, How do I stop alerts for this kind of thing? Also when I started to download and save an application to one of my drives, I received an alert, actually, I think two of them! How do I stop those? You can see where I am going with these questions. Basically I want to know how to receive alerts just for programs trying to access the internet and alerts that somethings been blocked trying to enter my coputer. Any other type of alert I do not want. Now that I’ve said all of that, how do i set it up this way?
Thank you for a great product
Hi and welcome,
Defense+ monitors “protected” files, including executables. Check what application was the one trying to delete the file and if it’s trustworthy you may want to grant it permission to modify protected files. The easiest way to grant broad permissions to programs that you trust is answering the popup by “treat as: trusted application” making sure “remember” is enabled. This is recommended if as you say you don’t want to get your hands too dirty fiddling with the settings.
You can fine-tune too if you prefer. Likely the app in the popup about deleting a file was explorer.exe, which is Windows’ interface (not the browser), so locate it in “defense+ > advanced > computer security policy”, double click on it and change “protected files/folders” from ask to allow.
The same goes for your browser when you want to download executable files. You may grant your browser permission to modify any protected file/folder, or you can click on “modify…” and define only some places where they can be created --you can use wildcards.
